Prediction maps of land subsidence caused by groundwater exploitation in Hanoi, Vietnam
The article presents study results of the land subsidence caused by groundwater exploitation in Hanoi, Vietnam. The study includes collection and analysis of data on geology, hydrology, soil properties and settlements observed at 10 monitoring stations as well as models of the time-dependent settlement. The calculated settlements are relatively close to actual monitoring data. The models were done for prediction of the land subsidence at 92 selected points by the finite element method. Prediction maps are made for prediction of the land subsidence in 2020 and 2030. Recommendations are proposed for potential zones of groundwater exploitation in Hanoi
BUILDING RESEARCH COMPETENCE OF PHD STUDENTS: AN ANALYSIS OF EXPERIENCE OF A PHD SCHOOL
Introduction. Postgraduate education of the Russian higher school is traditionally considered as a strategic reserve, which provides the continuity of academic and teaching personnel and the efficiency of education of future experts. However, the total number of this key resource of the higher education system, which guarantees its stable functioning and further forward development, has been reduced in recent years. Postgraduate admission has decreased, in particular, pedagogical training programmes. What is most important, the PhD student quality has substantially dropped. The aim of the present publication was to identify the level of research skills of PhD students of pedagogical specialisation and present the most productive ways for the formation of skills to carry out research activities. Methodology and research methods. The study was based on the ideas of systemic-activity approach, competency-based approach and major provisions of the theory of action. Scientific publications on research projects of PhD students and the concept of βnewβ post graduate school in the Russian education were analysed. Online survey and questionnaire survey of PhD students, their supervisors and members of dissertation boards were conducted. The assessment of results of research conducted by PhD students, synthesis and description of productive teaching practices and positive pedagogical experience gained at Tyumen State University (TSU) were applied. Results and scientific novelty. Based on the classical interpretation of nature and contents of human activity, a definition of research activity is formulated. It constitutes as the grounds for development of the contents and procedure for the list of research tasks for PhD students to master in order to successfully complete their PhD studies (as yet, the similar register has been compiled and scientifically based only for a bachelor degree). Insufficient competence of many PhD students to organise and conduct an independent scientific and pedagogical search is proved. Unstable components of their research competence are revealed: inability to use the most important elements of the methodology corpus and problems in writing scientific texts. Practically verified methods and means to develop the research competence of PhD students, doctoral candidates, applicants on academic degrees and their research supervisors are described: methodological seminars of the education department, a group analysis of scientific texts for publication, group visits and discussion of open lectures and seminars for teachers of the education department and PhD students, role mini-plays, public preliminary dissertation defense, participation in the events held by the department, etc. Practical significance. Knowledge of the gaps in research competence of PhD students will allow their supervisors to selectively improve the studentsβ skills, which are necessary for writing and defending the dissertation. Creative application and systematically scientific-pedagogical work will help achieve a significant improvement in building PhD student competence for scientific and teaching activities.ΠΠ²Π΅Π΄Π΅Π½ΠΈΠ΅. DOES MODERN SCHOOL NEED A TEACHER-RESEARCHER?
The purpose of the publication is to draw attention of educatorsof all levels to the need of improving quality of teacher training in research field.Methods. Based on the results of observations, interviews and surveys ofΒ teachers aged between 23 and 30 years with teaching experience of 1 to 5β6 years,Β and analysis of teacher practice, the assessment of the current state of innovationΒ processes in public school and quality of university training of pre-serviceΒ teachers in research field is given.Results. Insufficient training of young teachers for independent researchΒ has been revealed. It was established that the research experience acquired byΒ them while writing the final qualifying work is non-demanded in modern educationalΒ work, where innovation is pushed out due to mismatch of educational policyΒ and the actual educational practice. The reasons of reluctance of young professionalsΒ to combine educational activities and research are the following: lack ofΒ innovation environment, academic overload, household and personal problems,Β and, most importantly, unwillingness and inability to carry out independent scientificΒ and pedagogical search. Also, the problems of final qualifying works supervisionΒ and management of pedagogical practice of students have been found out.Scientific novelty. Self-assessment of young teachers, concerning their researchΒ activities, has been conducted; it included a cluster of research activitiesΒ that constitute its subject matter. The point for the need to abandon the narrow, Β focused specialization in high school training of pre-service teachers and enhance their methodological preparation has been developed.Β Practical significance. Different ways of organizing work with in-serviceΒ teachers concerning combination of subject specific and research specific aspectsΒ of their professional activities have been presented.Π¦Π΅Π»Ρ ΡΡΠ°ΡΡΠΈ β ΠΎΠ±ΡΠ°ΡΠΈΡΡ Π²Π½ΠΈΠΌΠ°Π½ΠΈΠ΅ ΡΠ°Π±ΠΎΡΠ½ΠΈΠΊΠΎΠ² ΠΎΠ±ΡΠ°Π·ΠΎΠ²Π°Π½ΠΈΡ Π²ΡΠ΅Ρ

Methods for karst hazard forecast and pipeline protection in South Yakutia
The objective of this paper is to consider the ways of monitoring and protecting the pipeline "The Power of Siberia" from karst hazards. The method of protection with bored piles has been recommended and the forecasting methods have been overviewed. Thus, ground penetrating radar allows discovering a soil cavity when the overburden layer is not very deep and predicting sinkhole collapse when used in combination with a balance arch model. Monitoring of triggering factors is widely used to forecast karst collapse when the opening is caused by pumping as the data on dynamic groundwater conditions can be obtained in real-time. However, the suggested protection method is expensive and some forecasts might be difficult to make. The authors have suggested the ways to improve the current situation and to reduce the damage caused by karst collapse
Modeling of stress-strain state of cement-sand grouting on foundation deformation
The application of jet grouting has been becoming more widespread in the reinforcement of building foundations. This technique depends on the characteristic features of the foundation soil, relevant type of foundation and surrounding conditions. The numerical analysis was carried out with three typical load intensities, proving that the intensity of the foundation settlement being influenced by the growth of soil stiffness and strength. The calculation of vertical soil displacements is 7.9 mm before underpinning, while it is 6.5 mm after underpinning. It is defined that the use of jet structures to strengthen the ground base allows to increase the rigidity of the base and to reduce its vertical movement by 20%. The hypothetical displacements were identified of the base by varying of its mechanical properties to the optimal values
