Exposure therapy for specific phobias in children and adolescents

    No full text
Among children and adolescents, specific phobia is one of the most common anxiety disorders. Although phobias are usually considered to have a relatively "simple" clinical presentation, they can interfere substantially with daily life for youth. Evidence-based treatments are available for specific phobia in youth. In all evidence-based treatments, exposure is the key working element. This chapter advises clinicians how to setup and carry out exposure treatment for specific phobia with children and adolescents in clinical practice. This chapter offers recommendations on the assessment process, developing and carrying out a treatment plan, involving the family in treatment, maintaining therapeutic improvements and handling challenging issues

PERTS: A Prototyping Environment for Real-Time Systems

    No full text
PERTS is a prototyping environment for real-time systems. It is being built incrementally and will contain schedulers and resource access protocols for time-critical applications, together with tools and a simulation environment for the analysis, validation, and evaluation of real-time systems built on the scheduling paradigms supported by these building blocks. Specifically, PERTS is designed to support the evaluation of new design approaches, experimentation with alternative scheduling and resource management strategies, and the analysis and performance profiling of the resultant prototype real-time systems. This paper first describes the underlying models of real-time systems supported by PERTS together with its intended use and capabilities. A key component is the schedulability analyzer. The basic version of this system supports the analysis and validation of real-time systems built on the framework of the periodic-task model. This system of tools is now available. Future enhancem..
