    We study the W/Z pair production via two-photon exchange at the LHC and give the sensitivities on trilinear and quartic gauge anomalous couplings between photons and W/Z bosons for an integrated luminosity of 30 and 200 fb^{-1}. For simplicity and to obtain lower backgrounds, only the leptonic decays of the electroweak bosons are considered.Comment: 22 pages, 17 figures, sumitted to Phys. Rev.

    Forward jets and forward WW-boson production at hadron colliders

    In this talk we give a short review of forward jets and forward WW-boson production at hadron colliders, in view of the extraction of footprints of BFKL physics. We argue that at Tevatron energies, dijet production at large rapidity intervals is still subasymptotic with respect to the BFKL regime, thus the cross section is strongly dependent on the various cuts applied in the experimental setup. In addition, the choice of equal transverse momentum cuts on the tagging jets makes the cross section dependent on large logarithms of non-BFKL origin, and thus may spoil the BFKL analysis. For vector boson production in association with two jets, we argue that the configurations that are kinematically favoured tend to have the vector boson forward in rapidity.     Prospects for observation of double parton scattering with four-muon final states at LHCb

    We study the prospects for observing double parton scattering through four-muon final states, forming two opposite-sign muon pairs, in the LHCb experiment in pp collisions at 14 TeV centre of mass energy. We consider two special cases, namely double Drell-Yan and J/psi-pair production. The kinematic properties and prospects for observing these processes are discussed. We find that the production rate depends strongly on the origin of the four muons, while many kinematic properties can be used to help identify the presence of double parton scattering events.Comment: 22 pages, 12 figure

    The reaction pp→W + γ + jet + Xpp \to W \ +\ \gamma\ +\ jet \ +\ X is considered at centre-of-mass energies s=16\sqrt{s} = 16 and 40\;\tev, including anomalous three-gauge-boson couplings κ\kappa and λ\lambda. The possibility of obtaining limits on these quantities by comparison with the standard model is investigated. The radiation zero properties of the subprocess matrix elements are studied.     Epistemic decision theory applied to multiple-target tracking

    A decision philosophy that seeks the avoidance of error by trading off belief of truth and value of information is applied to the problem of recognizing tracks from multiple targets (MTT). A successful MTT methodology should be robust in that its performance degrades gracefully as the conditions of the collection become less favorable to optimal operation. By stressing the avoidance, rather than the explicit minimization, of error, the authors obtain a decision rule for trajectory-data association that does not require the resolution of all conflicting hypotheses when the database does not contain sufficient information to do so reliably. This rule, coupled with a set-valued Kalman filter for trajectory estimation, results in a methodology that does not attempt to extract more information from the database than it contains

    Profile of the U 5f magnetization in U/Fe multilayers

    Recent calculations, concerning the magnetism of uranium in the U/Fe multilayer system have described the spatial dependence of the 5f polarization that might be expected. We have used the x-ray resonant magnetic reflectivity technique to obtain the profile of the induced uranium magnetic moment for selected U/Fe multilayer samples. This study extends the use of x-ray magnetic scattering for induced moment systems to the 5f actinide metals. The spatial dependence of the U magnetization shows that the predominant fraction of the polarization is present at the interfacial boundaries, decaying rapidly towards the center of the uranium layer, in good agreement with predictions.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figure

    Improving the model checking of strategies under partial observability and fairness constraints

    Reasoning about strategies has been a concern for several years, and many extensions of Alternating-time Temporal Logic have been proposed. One extension, ATLKirF , allows the user to reason about the strategies of the agents of a system under partial observability and unconditional fairness constraints. However, the existing model-checking algorithm for ATLKirF is inefficient when the user is only interested in the satisfaction of a formula in a small subset of states, such as the set of initial states of the system. We propose to generate fewer strategies by only focusing on partial strategies reachable from this subset of states, reducing the time needed to perform the verification. We also describe several practical improvements to further reduce the verification time and present experiments showing the practical impact of the approach
