    Increased Corrosion Resistance of Zinc Magnesium Aluminum Galvanised Coating through Germanium Additions

    The corrosion performance of a Zinc Magnesium Aluminium alloy was shown to improve through the addition of a quaternary element, Germanium. Improved corrosion resistance can be attributed to microstructural changes in the alloy due to Ge addition while in the molten state. The proportion of the most active MgZn2 phase which has been shown to initiate the corrosion reaction in a ZMA alloy was reduced thorough the formation of Mg2Ge crystals. The formation of crystal structures within the alloy also increased the heterogeneous nucleation of the primary zinc phase. The Scanning Vibrating Electrode Technique (SVET) was used to measure the rate of corrosion, anode life and zinc loss of the alloy samples. The results showed a zinc loss of around 50% when compared to standard ZMA alloy without Ge addition

    Learners can be provided with feedback in the form of knowledge of results (KR), under self-controlled and peer-controlled schedules. Recently, McRae, Hansen, and Patterson (2015), identified that inexperienced peers can provide KR that can facilitate motor skill acquisition. However, it is currently unknown whether previous task experience differentially impacts how peers present learners with KR and whether this KR impacts motor skill acquisition. In the present study, participants were randomly assigned to become inexperienced peer facilitators, learners with an inexperienced peer, learners with self-control who later became experienced peers, learners with an experienced peer, or learners in a control group. During acquisition learners completed a serial-timing task with a goal of 2500ms and returned approximately twenty four hours later for a delayed retention, time transfer, and pattern transfer test. We predicted that during the delayed tests, learners with self-control would outperform all other groups. Furthermore, we predicted that learners who received KR from experienced peers would outperform learners who received KR from inexperienced peers. However, our results indicated that participants who received peer-controlled and self-controlled KR schedules learned the task in an equivalent manner. Thus, our results are novel as they identify that inexperienced peers can provide KR that is as effective as KR provided by experienced peers and KR requested under self-controlled conditions

Each of the authors in this collection attempts to get inside one or more of the worldviews of the many cultures that have come to share and interpret the American West.     Virtual reality (VR) enables the display of dynamic visual content with unparalleled realism and immersion. However, VR is also still a relatively young medium that requires new ways to author content, particularly for visual content that is captured from the real world. This course, therefore, provides a comprehensive overview of the latest progress in bringing photographs and video into VR. Ultimately, the techniques, approaches and systems we discuss aim to faithfully capture the visual appearance and dynamics of the real world, and to bring it into virtual reality to create unparalleled realism and immersion by providing freedom of head motion and motion parallax, which is a vital depth cue for the human visual system. In this half-day course, we take the audience on a journey from VR photography to VR video that began more than a century ago but which has accelerated tremendously in the last five years. We discuss both commercial state-of-the-art systems by Facebook, Google and Microsoft, as well as the latest research techniques and prototypes

    Recommendations for measuring tennis racket parameters

    Tennis rackets have advanced significantly since the invention of the game in 1874, including innovations in both shape and materials. Advances in these design parameters have implications for racket performance, especially swing speed. This study tested one hundred rackets, spanning brands and eras, using simple, portable instruments in order to pilot protocols and make recommendations for streamlining testing procedures for tennis rackets. A wide range of properties were measured and documented for each racket. We suggest that since Transverse and Lateral Moment of Inertia are well correlated, measuring both is not necessary when processing a large number of rackets. In addition, it is also possible to predict the Transverse Moment of Inertia well from models that use simple dimension and mass measurements, which may be preferable in larger studies. Exploring the use of more complex modelling will allow us to better understand the impact of tennis racket design on performance in the future
