Digital design using selection operations
A digital integrated circuit chip is designed by identifying a logical structure to be implemented. This logical structure is represented in terms of a logical operations, at least 5% of which include selection operations. A determination is made of logic cells that correspond to an implementation of these logical operations
Digital logic optimization using selection operators
According to the invention, a digital design method for manipulating a digital circuit netlist is disclosed. In one step, a first netlist is loaded. The first netlist is comprised of first basic cells that are comprised of first kernel cells. The first netlist is manipulated to create a second netlist. The second netlist is comprised of second basic cells that are comprised of second kernel cells. A percentage of the first and second kernel cells are selection circuits. There is less chip area consumed in the second basic cells than in the first basic cells. The second netlist is stored. In various embodiments, the percentage could be 2% or more, 5% or more, 10% or more, 20% or more, 30% or more, or 40% or more
Strongly Coupled Matter-Field and Non-Analytic Decay Rate of Dipole Molecules in a Waveguide
The decay rate \gam of an excited dipole molecule inside a waveguide is
evaluated for the strongly coupled matter-field case near a cutoff frequency
\ome_c without using perturbation analysis. Due to the singularity in the
density of photon states at the cutoff frequency, we find that \gam depends
non-analytically on the coupling constant as . In contrast
to the ordinary evaluation of \gam which relies on the Fermi golden rule
(itself based on perturbation analysis), \gam has an upper bound and does not
diverge at \ome_c even if we assume perfect conductance in the waveguide
walls. As a result, again in contrast to the statement found in the literature,
the speed of emitted light from the molecule does not vanish at \ome_c and is
proportional to which is on the order of m/s for
typical dipole molecules.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
Entropic force, noncommutative gravity and ungravity
After recalling the basic concepts of gravity as an emergent phenomenon, we
analyze the recent derivation of Newton's law in terms of entropic force
proposed by Verlinde. By reviewing some points of the procedure, we extend it
to the case of a generic quantum gravity entropic correction to get compelling
deviations to the Newton's law. More specifically, we study: (1) noncommutative
geometry deviations and (2) ungraviton corrections. As a special result in the
noncommutative case, we find that the noncommutative character of the manifold
would be equivalent to the temperature of a thermodynamic system. Therefore, in
analogy to the zero temperature configuration, the description of spacetime in
terms of a differential manifold could be obtained only asymptotically.
Finally, we extend the Verlinde's derivation to a general case, which includes
all possible effects, noncommutativity, ungravity, asymptotically safe gravity,
electrostatic energy, and extra dimensions, showing that the procedure is solid
versus such modifications.Comment: 8 pages, final version published on Physical Review
Phase mixing of standing Alfven waves with shear flows in solar spicules
Alfvenic waves are thought to play an important role in coronal heating and
solar wind acceleration. Here we investigate the dissipation of such waves due
to phase mixing at the presence of shear flow and field in the stratified
atmosphere of solar spicules. The initial flow is assumed to be directed along
spicule axis and to vary linearly in the x direction and the equilibrium
magnetic field is taken 2-dimensional and divergence-free. It is determined
that the shear flow and field can fasten the damping of standing Alfven waves.
In spite of propagating Alfven waves, standing Alfven waves in Solar spicules
dissipate in a few periods. As height increases, the perturbed velocity
amplitude does increase in contrast to the behavior of perturbed magnetic
field. Moreover, it should be emphasized that the stratification due to
gravity, shear flow and field are the facts that should be considered in MHD
models in spicules.Comment: Accepted for publication in Astrophysics & Space Scienc
String tension in gonihedric 3D Ising models
For the 3D gonihedric Ising models defined by Savvidy and Wegner the bare
string tension is zero and the energy of a spin interface depends only on the
number of bends and self-intersections, in antithesis to the standard
nearest-neighbour 3D Ising action. When the parameter kappa weighting the
self-intersections is small the model has a first order transition and when it
is larger the transition is continuous.
In this paper we investigate the scaling of the renormalized string tension,
which is entirely generated by fluctuations, using Monte Carlo simulations This
allows us to obtain an estimate for the critical exponents alpha and nu using
both finite-size-scaling and data collapse for the scaling function.Comment: Latex + postscript figures. 8 pages text plus 7 figures, spurious
