    Research into the psychological health of members of sexual minorities has been biased towards a medical model of illness and several methodological difficulties need to be considered to critically interpret findings in this area. This review presents relevant literature on sexual minority stressors, positive coping by sexual minority members, and the mixed findings of between-groups comparative research. The medical model bias is evident in an analysis of the measures of psychological health used in research involving sexual minorities. The thesis of considering psychological health of sexual minorities from the broader perspective that includes both well-being and pathology, and of using a positive psychology focus on well-being and competence, is discussed. The increased use of substantial measures of wellbeing, including psychological well-being, is encouraged. Psychological health research involving sexual minorities is biased towards a medical model perspective and measures. This exploratory study uses a positive psychological perspective on gay male and lesbian psychological health. The Scales of Psychological Well-Being (SPWB) (Ryff, 1989; Ryff & Keyes, 1995) were used with a sample of Australian metropolitan adults comprising heterosexual males (n = 43), gay males (n = 59), heterosexual females (n = 58) and lesbians (n = 55). Significant differences on SPWB were related to gender and not to sexual orientation, with females scoring higher than males for positive relations, environmental mastery, personal growth and total SPWB score. Further exploration of resilience and the use of SPWB in sexual minority populations is proposed

    Incremental placement for layout driven optimizations on FPGAs

    This paper presents an algorithm to update the placement of logic elements when given an incremental netlist change. Specifically, these algorithms are targeted to incrementally place logic elements created by layout-driven circuit restruc-turing techniques. The incremental placement engine as-sumes that the restructuring algorithms provide a list of new logic elements along with preferred locations for each of these new elements. It then tries to shift non-critical logic elements in the original placement out of the way to satisfy the preferred location requests. Our algorithm considers modern FPGA architectures with clustered logic blocks that have numerous architectural constraints. Experiments indi-cate that our technique produces results of extremely high quality. 1

    Lightcone reference for total gravitational energy

    We give an explicit expression for gravitational energy, written solely in terms of physical spacetime geometry, which in suitable limits agrees with the total Arnowitt-Deser-Misner and Trautman-Bondi-Sachs energies for asymptotically flat spacetimes and with the Abbot-Deser energy for asymptotically anti-de Sitter spacetimes. Our expression is a boundary value of the standard gravitational Hamiltonian.     Simultaneous interplanetary scintillation and Heliospheric Imager observations of a coronal mass ejection

    We describe simultaneous Interplanetary Scintillation (IPS) and STEREO Heliospheric Imager (HI) observations of a coronal mass ejection (CME) on 16 May 2007. Strong CME signatures were present throughout the IPS observation. The IPS raypath lay within the field-of-view of HI-1 on STEREO-A and comparison of the observations shows that the IPS measurements came from a region within a faint CME front observed by HI-1A. This front may represent the merging of two converging CMEs. Plane-of-sky velocity estimates based on time-height plots of the two converging CME structures were 325 kms?1 and 550 kms?1 for the leading and trailing fronts respectively. The plane-of-sky velocities determined from IPS ranged from 420 ± 10 kms?1 to 520 ± 20 kms?1. IPS results reveal the presence of micro-structure within the CME front which may represent interaction between the two separate CME events. This is the first time that it has been possible to interpret IPS observations of small-scale structure within an interplanetary CME in terms of the global structure of the event
