Excitonic Instability and Pseudogap Formation in Nodal Line Semimetal ZrSiS

Electron correlation effects are studied in ZrSiS using a combination of first-principles and model approaches. We show that basic electronic properties of ZrSiS can be described within a two-dimensional lattice model of two nested square lattices. High degree of electron-hole symmetry characteristic for ZrSiS is one of the key features of this model. Having determined model parameters from first-principles calculations, we then explicitly take electron-electron interactions into account and show that at moderately low temperatures ZrSiS exhibits excitonic instability, leading to the formation of a pseudogap in the electronic spectrum. The results can be understood in terms of Coulomb-interaction-assisted pairing of electrons and holes reminiscent to that of an excitonic insulator. Our finding allows us to provide a physical interpretation to the unusual mass enhancement of charge carriers in ZrSiS recently observed experimentally.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures. Final versio

Evaluation of the current state of aquatic ecosystems and the problems of the protection of biological resources during development of kruzenshternskoye gcf

The results of studies of the current state of freshwater ecosystems and their biotic components in the western part of the Yamal Peninsula are presented in the article. Based on the evaluation of the structure of communities of phytoplankton, zooplankton, benthos, and whitefishes, the range of problems related to the protection of biological resources during the development of the Kruzenshternskoye gas field is defined. The data on species composition and quantitative indicators of hydrobionts of different types of waterbodies and watercourses in the lower reaches of the Mordyyakha and Naduyyakha Rivers basins is the basis for environmental monitoring of water objects during development and exploitation of the Kruzenshternskoye gas field. Estimation of the fish fauna state and their food base in the territory of the Kruzenshternskoye GCF according to the monitoring program is present. The river delta zones are the most important feeding areas of the salmonid and whitefishes valuable fish species in the territory of Kruzenshternskoye GCF. In cases where water bodies and watercourses are not completely demolished for the construction of GCF facilities, changes of quantitative and qualitative characteristics of communities of hydrobionts after the end of operations are reversible. River ecosystems are restored within a shorter period of time in comparison to lacustrine ones. Proposals for the protection of fisheries resources and monitoring of aquatic ecosystems on the basis of comprehensive studies are reported. Recommendations on reducing the anthropogenic impact on aquatic ecosystems in the development period are present. The results of the investigation were used in the development of the environmental protection part of the Kruzenshternskoye deposit project. Anthropogenic disturbances present now on the gas deposit territory of Kruzenshternskoye does not influence the aquatic ecosystems. The article have been prepared within the Project of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences № 12-P-47-2013 and "The Arctic" Project of the Presidium of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences № 12-4-3-012

Langmuir wave linear evolution in inhomogeneous nonstationary anisotropic plasma

Equations describing the linear evolution of a non-dissipative Langmuir wave in inhomogeneous nonstationary anisotropic plasma without magnetic field are derived in the geometrical optics approximation. A continuity equation is obtained for the wave action density, and the conditions for the action conservation are formulated. In homogeneous plasma, the wave field E universally scales with the electron density N as E ~ N^{3/4}, whereas the wavevector evolution varies depending on the wave geometry

Self-consistent Dual Boson approach to single-particle and collective excitations in correlated systems

    Get PDF
We propose an efficient dual boson scheme, which extends the DMFT paradigm to collective excitations in correlated systems. The theory is fully self-consistent both on the one- and on the two-particle level, thus describing the formation of collective modes as well as the renormalization of electronic and bosonic spectra on equal footing. The method employs an effective impurity model comprising both fermionic and bosonic hybridization functions. Only single- and two-electron Green's functions of the reference problem enter the theory, due to the optimal choice of the self-consistency condition for the effective bosonic bath. We show that the theory is naturally described by a dual Luttinger-Ward functional and obeys the relevant conservation laws.Comment: 17 pages, 12 figure

Analyzing Russian Media Policy on Promoting Vaccination and Other COVID-19 Risk Mitigation Measures

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has resulted in many tangible and intangible losses. To manage the risk of the pandemic and to mitigate its further spread, governments of many countries applied various pandemic risk mitigation measures. Media campaigns played a particularly large role during the pandemic, too. In addition, social media grew in importance because of the spread of technologies and as a result of the increased attention to information about COVID-19. Media information strongly influenced both the public perception of COVID-19 risk and decision-making processes and choices, which people made regarding risk reduction measures during the pandemic. Moreover, media information has had a major impact on the effectiveness and efficiency of various countries' risk management actions. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to investigate the influence of the Russian media on the population's perception of risk, and to address the question about which linguistic and psychological methods they used to shape different media discourses about the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, we analyzed media discourses as a part of the case study of COVID-19 risk management in the Russian Federation. The theoretical basis of the study includes mass communication theories. The methodological basis consists of linguo-cognitive analysis of empirical materials for specific political-philosophical, linguistic-publicistic, and sociopsychological functioning

Butt-joint seam of a high entropy alloy (HEA) of the CoCrFeNiMn system was successfully obtained by friction stir welding (FSW). The HEA was produced by self-propagating high-temperature synthesis. Along with the principal elements, a small amount (0.9 at.%) of C was added to the alloy. The as-cast alloy was cold rolled and annealed at 900 °C to produce refined microstructur

Determining the Young's modulus of a cellular titanium implant by FEM simulation

The role of additive manufacturing is noted for the construction of titanium medical implants. The purpose of the study is to determine the Young's modulus of cellular titanium implants, which is based on calculations performed by finite element analysis. A honeycomb structure from intersecting cylinder surfaces is offered for the implant made of the Ti-6Al-4V alloy. Boundary conditions are stated for the loading of the implant structure. It is demonstrated that the Young's modulus can be reduced more than three times comparing to a solid titanium alloy. Zones of strain and stress localization located near the abutment of the cylindrical surfaces. Recommendations for the further improvement of the implant architecture are generated. © 2017 Author(s).Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, Minobrnauka: 218We hereby acknowledge the support of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Russian Federation, in accordance with the decree of the Government of April 9, 2010, No. 218, project number 03.G25.31.0234

Selective laser melting (SLM) is an additive manufacturing technique, where several aspects resulting in the anisotropy of properties is combined. This study provides an analysis of selective laser melting of the diamond lattice structure of Ti-6Al-4 in terms of anisotropy of Vickers microhardness depending on the location and direction of indentation. A statistical review of microhardness values is presented. © 2019 Author(s)

Integrability and action operators in quantum Hamiltonian systems

    Get PDF
For a (classically) integrable quantum mechanical system with two degrees of freedom, the functional dependence H^=HQ(J^1,J^2)\hat{H}=H_Q(\hat{J}_1,\hat{J}_2) of the Hamiltonian operator on the action operators is analyzed and compared with the corresponding functional relationship H(p1,q1;p2,q2)=HC(J1,J2)H(p_1,q_1;p_2,q_2) = H_C(J_1,J_2) in the classical limit of that system. The former is shown to converge toward the latter in some asymptotic regime associated with the classical limit, but the convergence is, in general, non-uniform. The existence of the function H^=HQ(J^1,J^2)\hat{H}=H_Q(\hat{J}_1,\hat{J}_2) in the integrable regime of a parametric quantum system explains empirical results for the dimensionality of manifolds in parameter space on which at least two levels are degenerate. The comparative analysis is carried out for an integrable one-parameter two-spin model. Additional results presented for the (integrable) circular billiard model illuminate the same conclusions from a different angle.Comment: 9 page
