The bureaucratisation of Islam in Southeast Asia: transdisciplinary perspectives

    Get PDF
Special Issue on this topic. In their specific local contexts, state- and non-state projects of bureaucratising Islam are driven by very different socio-political motivations and conditioned by equally different (albeit often interconnected and overlapping) historical trajectories and their discursive substrates. In this special issue, we examine this transnationally and transregionally observable phenomenon in the context of Southeast Asia, where the quest for "order" -no matter how messy or even entirely failed in its outcomes- is particularly strong. In this regional setting, the institutional trajectories of the "nation-state-ization" of Islam date back to colonial times, which have continued to cast a long shadow that informs the particular manifestations of bureaucratised Islam in each country

A Framework for Formal Verification of DRAM Controllers

The large number of recent JEDEC DRAM standard releases and their increasing feature set makes it difficult for designers to rapidly upgrade the memory controller IPs to each new standard. Especially the hardware verification is challenging due to the higher protocol complexity of standards like DDR5, LPDDR5 or HBM3 in comparison with their predecessors. With traditional simulation-based verification it is laborious to guarantee the coverage of all possible states, especially for control flow rich memory controllers. This has a direct impact on the time-to-market. A promising alternative is formal verification because it allows to ensure protocol compliance based on mathematical proofs. However, with regard to memory controllers no fully-automated verification process has been presented in the state-of-the-art yet, which means there is still a potential risk of human error. In this paper we present a framework that automatically generates SystemVerilog Assertions for a DRAM protocol. In addition, we show how the framework can be used efficiently for different tasks of memory controller development.Comment: ACM/IEEE International Symposium on Memory Systems (MEMSYS 2022

Challenges recruiting to a proof-of-concept pharmaceutical trial for a rare disease: The trigeminal neuralgia experience

Background: This study aimed to describe recruitment challenges encountered during a phase IIa study of vixotrigine, a state and use-dependent Nav1.7 channel blocker, in individuals with trigeminal neuralgia. Methods: This was an international, multicenter, placebo-controlled, randomized withdrawal study that included a 7-day run-in period, a 21-day open-label phase, and a 28-day double-blind phase in which patients (planned n = 30) were randomized to vixotrigine or placebo. Before recruitment, all antiepileptic drugs had to be stopped, except for gabapentin or pregabalin. After the trial, patients returned to their original medications. Patient recruitment was expanded beyond the original five planned (core) centers in order to meet target enrollment (total recruiting sites N = 25). Core sites contributed data related to patient identification for study participation (prescreening data). Data related to screening failures and study withdrawal were also analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: Approximately half (322/636; 50.6%) of the patients who were prescreened at core sites were considered eligible for the study and 56/322 (17.4%) were screened. Of those considered eligible, 26/322 (8.1%) enrolled in the study and 6/322 (1.9%) completed the study. In total, 125 patients were screened across all study sites and 67/125 (53.6%) were enrolled. At prescreening, reasons for noneligibility varied by site and were most commonly diagnosis change (78/314; 24.8%), age > 80 years (75/314; 23.9%), language/distance/mobility (61/314; 19.4%), and noncardiac medical problems (53/314; 16.9%). At screening, frequently cited reasons for noneligibility included failure based on electrocardiogram, insufficient pain, and diagnosis change. Conclusions: Factors contributing to recruitment challenges encountered in this study included diagnosis changes, anxiety over treatment changes, and issues relating to distance, language, and mobility. Wherever possible, future studies should be designed to address these challenges. Trial registration: ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT01540630. EudraCT, 2010-023963-16. 07 Aug 2015

Efficient timetable stability analysis using a graph contraction procedure

    Get PDF
Train density on the Swiss rail network has increased significantly in recent years. This demands much more from the stability of the system, especially in combination with single-track corridors. For railroad companies, it is therefore becoming increasingly important to optimize the transport network for stability in order to be able to offer the demanded service as reliably as possible on the existing infrastructure. An approach to numerical stability evaluation of timed discrete event systems has been developed to support planners in testing the timetable for operational stability. In this approach, the traffic system under consideration is modeled as a network with all relevant timetable events and links. The system modelled in this way can be examined for its behavior in the event of a possible disruption using methods from max-plus algebra. The typical computation time of an evaluation procedure takes more than 65 minutes for a signifcant partition of the line network. This is far too high for integration into a practical optimization procedure. In this paper we present a contraction procedure added to the existing evaluation framework, and thus reduce the computation time by more than 90% without compromising the result quality

Hintergründe jihadistischer Radikalisierung in der Schweiz : eine explorative Studie mit Empfehlungen für Prävention und Intervention

    Get PDF
