Physical measures to inhibit planktonic cyanobacteriae
In a small lake, intermittent destratification was installed after several other physico-chemical and physical in-lake therapy measures (phosphorus immobilization, permanent destratification) had been tested without great success. If an aerobic sediment-water interface can be maintained, intermittent destratification removes cyanobacteria and prevents optimal development of other members of the photoautotrophic plankton. During growing seasons, increasing abundances of small-bodied herbivores (Bosmina) and Daphnia may have accounted for relatively low phytoplankton biomass as well. Intermittent destratification is a very fast-working in-lake measure and seems to be applicable even in relatively shallow lakes (< 15 m), in which permanent destratification seems to be risky
Duality for nonlinear simply laced groups
Let G be a nonlinear double cover of the real points of a connected reductive
complex algebraic group with simply laced root system. We establish a uniform

Parental Marital Disruption, Family Type, and Transfers to Disabled Elderly Parents
This paper examines the family variables that affect intergenerational living arrangements and adult children's time and cash transfers to their unpartnered disabled elderly parents. The family variables we examine include parental marital status, parental marital history, whether the index child is a step child or a biological child of the parent, and whether the index child's siblings are step children or biological children of the parent. Using data from the Health and Retirement Studies - Asset and Health Dynamics Among the Oldest Old (HRS-AHEAD) surveys, we estimate the joint probabilities that an adult child provides time and/or cash transfers to a parent and analyze a five-level categorical variable capturing parent–child living arrangements. Parameter estimates suggest significant detrimental effects of parental divorce and step relationship on time transfers and on the probability of coresidence with the index child. The composition of the index child's sibling network also affects transfers and living arrangement choices of adult children. Our findings suggest that demographic changes are weakening the traditional role of the family as a support network. Because more recent cohorts of elderly persons have experienced substantially higher rates of divorce, remarriage, and step parenthood than the cohort considered in this study, our findings raise concerns about the future availability of family care.long-term care, intergenerational transfers, aging, family
In spite of an abundant literature, comprising at least three major theoretical schools, and notwithstanding a multitude of clinical studies and experimental works, the understanding of psychosexual development is still more or less confused and the subject of heated debate. This article attempts to clarify the terminology used in this area and to highlight the principal aspects of this controversial question. There is an important need, in our opinion, to formulate a more comprehensive, global explanatory schema and to construct more refined objective measurement instruments, particularly with regard to children
Study of large adaptive arrays for space technology applications
The research in large adaptive antenna arrays for space technology applications is reported. Specifically two tasks were considered. The first was a system design study for accurate determination of the positions and the frequencies of sources radiating from the earth's surface that could be used for the rapid location of people or vehicles in distress. This system design study led to a nonrigid array about 8 km in size with means for locating the array element positions, receiving signals from the earth and determining the source locations and frequencies of the transmitting sources. It is concluded that this system design is feasible, and satisfies the desired objectives. The second task was an experiment to determine the largest earthbound array which could simulate a spaceborne experiment. It was determined that an 800 ft array would perform indistinguishably in both locations and it is estimated that one several times larger also would serve satisfactorily. In addition the power density spectrum of the phase difference fluctuations across a large array was measured. It was found that the spectrum falls off approximately as f to the minus 5/2 power
The Role of Section 2 of the Sherman Act in International Patent Fraud: “Walk Softly and Carry a Big Stick”
This Article analyzes the monopolistic implications of Mannington Mills and considers the point at which international patent fraud may be determined unlawful monopolization or an unlawful attempt to monopolize
