Torch kit for welding in difficult areas

    Get PDF
Miniature tungsten inert gas welding torch, used with variously formed interchangeable soft copper tubing extensions, provides inexpensive, accurate welding capability for inaccessible joints. Kit effectively welds stainless steel tubing 0.089 cm thick. Other applications are cited

A design procedure and handling quality criteria for lateral directional flight control systems

    Get PDF
A practical design procedure for aircraft augmentation systems is described based on quadratic optimal control technology and handling-quality-oriented cost functionals. The procedure is applied to the design of a lateral-directional control system for the F4C aircraft. The design criteria, design procedure, and final control system are validated with a program of formal pilot evaluation experiments

Phenomenology of IR-renormalons in inclusive processes

We have compared the existing experimental data on the leading power corrections to the structure functions F2(x,Q2),F3(x,Q2)F_2(x,Q^2), F_3(x,Q^2), and FL(x,Q2)F_L(x,Q^2) with the IR-renormalon model predictions for higher-twist contributions. Our analysis shows that the model properly describes the x-dependence, but typically falls short by a factor 2 or 3 as far as the magnitude of higher twist corrections is concerned.Comment: revised version, figures modified, conclusions partially change

A solution procedure for behavior of thick plates on a nonlinear foundation and postbuckling behavior of long plates

    Get PDF
Approximate solutions for three nonlinear orthotropic plate problems are presented: (1) a thick plate attached to a pad having nonlinear material properties which, in turn, is attached to a substructure which is then deformed; (2) a long plate loaded in inplane longitudinal compression beyond its buckling load; and (3) a long plate loaded in inplane shear beyond its buckling load. For all three problems, the two dimensional plate equations are reduced to one dimensional equations in the y-direction by using a one dimensional trigonometric approximation in the x-direction. Each problem uses different trigonometric terms. Solutions are obtained using an existing algorithm for simultaneous, first order, nonlinear, ordinary differential equations subject to two point boundary conditions. Ordinary differential equations are derived to determine the variable coefficients of the trigonometric terms

LDEF Materials Workshop 1991, part 2

    Get PDF
The LDEF Materials Workshop 1991 was a follow-on to the Materials Sessions at the First LDEF Post-Retrieval Symposium held in Kissimmee, Florida, June 1991. The workshop comprised a series of technical sessions on materials themes, followed by theme panel meetings. Themes included materials, environmental parameters, and data bases; contamination; thermal control and protective coating and surface treatments; polymers and films; polymer matrix composites; metals, ceramics, and optical materials; lubricants adhesives, seals, fasteners, solar cells, and batteries. This document continues the LDEF Space Environmental Effects on Materials Special Investigation Group (MSIG) pursuit to investigate the effects of LEO exposure on materials which were not originally planned to be test specimens. Papers from the technical sessions are presented

Thermally-Assisted Spin-Transfer Torque Magnetization Reversal of Uniaxial Nanomagnets in Energy Space

The asymptotic behavior of switching time as a function of current for a uniaxial macrospin under the effects of both spin-torque and thermal noise is explored analytically by focusing on its diffusive energy space dynamics. The scaling dependence (I0I\rightarrow 0, <τexp(ξ(1I)2)<\tau\propto\exp(-\xi(1-I)^2)) is shown to confirm recent literature results. The analysis shows the mean switching time to be functionally independent of the angle between the spin current and magnet's uniaxial axes. These results have important implications for modeling the energetics of thermally assisted magnetization reversal of spin transfer magnetic random access memory bit cells.Comment: arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:1205.650
