New Approaches to Target Mass Corrections
We analyze different prescriptions for the inclusion of target mass effects
in the extraction of parton distributions from the measured structure
functions. As a main result, the problem of defining parton distributions in
the presence of mass is an open problem.Comment: 4 pages. Presented at HiX2010, Jlab, October 201
The Temperature Dependence of the QCD Running Coupling
We study the running of the QCD coupling with the momentum squared ()
and the temperature scales in the high temperature limit (), using a
mass dependent renormalization scheme to build the Renormalization Group
Equations. The approach used guaranty gauge invariance, through the use of the
Hard Thermal Loop approximation, and independence of the vertex chosen to
renormalize the coupling. In general, the dependence of the coupling with the
temperature is not logarithmical, although in the region the
logarithm approximation is reasonable. Finally, as known from Debye screening,
color charge is screened in the coupling. The number of flavors, however, is
anti-screened.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figure
The influence of film music on moral judgments of movie scenes and felt emotions

Nationallizenz frei zugänglich. This publication is with permission of the rights owner freely accessible due to an Alliance licence and a national licence (funded by the DFG, German Research Foundation) respectively.Music can modulate perceptions, actions, and judgments in everyday situations. The aim of this study was to investigate a potential influence of music on moral judgments in the context of film reception. In the course of an online experiment, 252 participants were assigned to three different experimental conditions (no, positive, or negative music). Participants were requested to assess actions shown in two 2–3-minute audio-visual film excerpts with regard to their perceived moral rightness and to report induced emotions after watching the film clips. Afterwards, they were asked to complete the MFQ-30 questionnaire measuring the foundations of their moral judgments. Results revealed that in one of four cases (i.e. happiness in film excerpt 1), music had a significant effect on recipients’ emotions and also indirectly influenced their moral judgment. In three of four cases, however, the intended emotion induction through film music did not succeed, and thus a significant indirect influence of music on moral judgment was not found. Furthermore, associations between moral foundations, perceived rightness of action, and induced emotions were observed. Future lab studies are indicated to investigate potential moderating influences of the experimental environment on emotion induction through film music
Nonperturbative renormalization of nonlocal quark bilinears for quasi-PDFs on the lattice using an auxiliary field
Quasi-PDFs provide a path toward an ab initio calculation of parton
distribution functions (PDFs) using lattice QCD. One of the problems faced in
calculations of quasi-PDFs is the renormalization of a nonlocal operator. By
introducing an auxiliary field, we can replace the nonlocal operator with a
pair of local operators in an extended theory. On the lattice, this is closely
related to the static quark theory. In this approach, we show how to understand
the pattern of mixing that is allowed by chiral symmetry breaking, and obtain a
master formula for renormalizing the nonlocal operator that depends on three
parameters. We present an approach for nonperturbatively determining these
parameters and use perturbation theory to convert to the MS-bar scheme.
Renormalization parameters are obtained for two lattice spacings using Wilson
twisted mass fermions and for different discretizations of the Wilson line in
the nonlocal operator. Using these parameters we show the effect of
renormalization on nucleon matrix elements with pion mass approximately 370
MeV, and compare renormalized results for the two lattice spacings. The
renormalized matrix elements are consistent among the different Wilson line
discretizations and lattice spacings.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures. v2: added perturbative matching to MS-bar and
