Goal and scope in life cycle sustainability analysis: the case of hydrogen production from biomass.

    Get PDF
The framework for life cycle sustainability analysis (LCSA) developed within the project CALCAS (Co-ordination Action for innovation in Life-Cycle Analysis for Sustainability) is introducing a truly integrated approach for sustainability studies. However, it needs to be further conceptually refined and to be made operational. In particular, one of the gaps still hindering the adoption of integrated analytic tools for sustainability studies is the lack of a clear link between the goal and scope definition and the modeling phase. This paper presents an approach to structure the goal and scope phase of LCSA so as to identify the relevant mechanisms to be further detailed and analyzed in the modeling phase. The approach is illustrated with an on-going study on a new technology for the production of high purity hydrogen from biomass, to be used in automotive fuel cells

    Get PDF
Introduction- Taussig- Bing Syndrome is a rare congenital heart malformation that was first described by Helen Taussig and Richard Bing. The aim of this article is to show the main morphological changes in this case of rare congenital malformation. Performed methods were autopsy examination, clinical data analysis, x-ray examination and microscopic examination. Results- the index case is 34 days- old male newborn, born in 37 gestational age, with weight 2.150gr. and height- 45 cm. The heart was found enlarged with normal position in the chest. During dissection of the heart there were detected: hypertrophy and dilation of the right ventricle; the aorta arise entirely above the right ventricle; the dilated pulmonary valve does not override the left ventricular cavity; pulmonary artery arises primarily from the right ventricle and partially overrides the ventricular septum and a high and large sub- pulmonary ventricular septal defect. Conclusions- The treatment of this syndrome is continuing to be an actual medical problem. The right diagnose and the adequate treatment can widely reduce the mortality and morbidity from this disease

E-commerce development during the covid-19 pandemic: the Macedonian case

    Get PDF
In general, coronavirus has changed the way individuals, companies and countries in general have functioned so far. The pandemic left consequences in almost all segments of social life, and the reduced turnover of companies was a motive for digitalization of services. Many companies and institutions that in the past weren’t providing services electronically began to use alternative ways to offer their products and services online. The paper will present the authors' research on online shopping made during the 2020 pandemic, and will provide an overview of the challenges facing ecommerce development and will offer adequate conclusions that may be applicable in the future. Macedonians, according to the official data available from the National Bank, in the first six months of 2020 made a turnover of 4.3 billion denars with payment cards in domestic online stores, which is an increase of 113% compared to the first six months of 2019. According to the official data, in June 2020 there were 1,223 virtual points of sale, i.e. eshops, which is an increase of 20% compared to December 2019. These data as well as the findings of the authors in their research confirm the basic hypothesis that the crisis caused by Covid-19 had a positive impact on the development of e-commerce in our country

Evaluating VLOP and VLOSE Implementation of the Strengthened EU Code of Practice on Disinformation in Bulgaria

    Get PDF
In June of 2022, Google, Meta, Microsoft, TikTok, Twitter (rebranded as X) and a selection of advertising industry companies all signed up to the strengthened Code of Practice on Disinformation (European Commission, 2022). One of the goals of this strengthened version of the code was to empower the industry to adhere to self-regulatory standards in order to combat disinformation. The strengthened code also claims to set a more ambitious set of commitments and measures aimed at combating disinformation online. Our aim here is to offer an assessment or evaluation of the implementation of the 2022 Code of Practice on Disinformation (CoP) by these companies in Bulgaria. Very little information exists on the implementation of the strengthened Code of Practice when it comes to Bulgaria by Very Large Online Platforms and Very Large Online Search Engines (VLOP and VLOSE) and this is a country which is particularly vulnerable to disinformation narratives. This detailed analysis of VLOP and VLOSE compliance reports offers a general overview of the responses of Google, Meta, Microsoft, TikTok, and Twitter in line with three major pillars of (i) Advertising and Political advertising; (ii) Integrity of services; and (iii) Empowering Users, the research community and Fact-Checkers. We focus specifically on the data provided for Bulgaria in order to identify any important gaps or issues which should be addressed in future VLOP and VLOSE responses to disinformation and their compliance reports

Fluoksetin ne remeti motornu funkciju kod bolesnika sa Parkinsonovom bolešću - korelacija raspoloženja i motorne funkcije sa koncentracijom fluoksetina/norfluoksetina u plazmi

Background/Aim. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors are the most commonly chosen antidepressants in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). The aim of our study was to assess the influence of fluoxetine (Flu) on motor functions in patients with PD. Methods. In this prospective, controlled, open-label study, 18 patients with PD and mild depression [(10 ≤ Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HDRS) ≤ 23)] without dementia [(25 ≤ Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE)] were treated with Flu. Both single and repeated dose effects of Flu were assessed on days 1-80. Plasma concentrations of Flu and norfluoxetine (NORFlu) were correlated with the results of selected motor function performance scores: The Unified Parkinsons Disease Rating Score (UPDRS), Finger Tapping Test (FTT) and Purdue Pegboard Test (PPT). Severity of PD, depression and dementia were evaluated using standard tests [(Hoehn and Yahr stages (HY), activity of daily living (ADL), UPDRS, HDRS, MMSE)]. Results. Steady-state for Flu/NORFlu was reached after 18 days of treatment. Such a plateau correlated with significant improvements in both scores of depression and Parkinson's disability (HDRS, UPDRS and ADL, respectively). In addition, FTT and PPT scores also increased until day 18, with further slight fluctuations around the plateau. Optimal motor performances correlated with Flu concentrations of approximately 60-110 μg/L. Conclusion. Flu (20 mg/day) significantly reduced depression in PD patients while it did not impair their motor performances. Because substantial placebo effects may arise in studies of PD and depression, large, prospective, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trials are warranted.Uvod/Cilj.
