Bachelor degree owners’ employment in Italy and in other European Countries
Traditionally, Italy had just one long-cycle university degree; the two-tier system has been introduced as implementation of the Bologna Process (1999). We are interested in examining how the new first level degree, Bachelor in Europe and "Laurea L” in Italy, has worked in our country, mainly as far as employability is concerned. Our analysis has been framed in the European context, particularly looking at Bachelors in countries where traditionally there was only one level. The basic question is: has the new first-cycle degree been accepted by the labour market, or is it considered merely as an intermediate step in a route leading to a Master degree? As expected, there are differences in the countries under scrutiny, but there are also common indications. Answers for Italy are found analysing in detail existing surveys, which give precise indications about working and study conditions of 2007 and 2008 graduates, interviewed one year after graduation. Employment rate is not negligible, even if it is of course lower for L than from second level graduates; sometimes, work is combined with prosecution of studies. Effects of the crisis are present for both types of graduates. Some preliminary conclusions are drawn, and possible developments of the research are indicated.
L’analisi dell’offerta turistica: lo structural equation model-pls
Analysis of tourist offer: Structural Equation Model-PLS.- In this paper, we have made a broad
examination of high impact factor scientific publication connected to the application of Structural
Equation Model-PLS methodology to tourism. The main objectives of this work are: a) verify if and how
the SEM-PLS methodology was applied to tourism studies, more specifically to tourist hospitality; b)
carry out an analysis of international scientific literature to identify the main sources as well as the
principal authors; c) identify the main latent variables used in tourist hospitality studies. The application
of SEM-PLS methodology to hospitality shows that it is an appropriate research method to measure and
create a scientific model. It explains how the tangible and the intangible variables are involved in the
tourist hospitality sector. These analysis are the starting point for a comparative study to be carried out in
Italy and Spain
Heatwaves and physiological discomfort: the strange case of the year 2022 on the ‘Kiss Pass’ of Portofino Natural Park, Italy
Due to its cultural and landscape attractions, Portofino Natural Park is walked by thousands of hikers per year. In the Park's trail network, the path between Batterie and San Fruttuoso (known as “Passo del Bacio” translated to “Kiss Pass”) is one of the most popular because it is located on the edge of high rocky cliffs. Due to slope exposure and meteorological features, interventions by National Corp of Alpine and Speleological Rescue occur annually. The year 2022 was a record year, either for the particularly warm meteorological profile and the exceptional number of accidents recorde
Cartography and territorial promotion: an analytical-comparative approach to the tourist maps of post-war Liguria
The importance of cartography in tourism is generally linked to the need tourists have to reach their destination and to move across an unknown geographical context using road maps or large-scale plans, recently replaced by geo-located applications through the use of smart phones. However, there is another dimension of such cartography which uses the communicative power and readability of maps for the promotion of tourist destinations. Such products, generally known as pictorial maps, need to combine geometrical accuracy of cartographical representation and aesthetic appeal providing tourists with an effective synthesis of the offer of a certain destination without neglecting practical and logistic information. This paper introduces a novel analysis of tourist cartography of post-war Liguria focussing on two pictorial maps made by the graphic designer and artist Aldo Cigheri held at the Historical Archive of Regione Liguria. These documents are analysed and classified based on their features, particularly the covered areas, the style of representation, symbols categories and choice of subjects. Through the study of tourist cartography in Liguria, the paper aims at underlining how such products contributed to define the tourist offer and the image of Liguria in the years of the Economic Boom, suggesting a reflection on how tourist promotion strategies have evolved from the post-war period to present da
During the past forty years, the number of natural disaster victims has increased fivefold worldwide. The main causes of this phenomenon are uncontrolled increases in populations, particularly urban populations, and the socioeconomic, environmental and political situations of certain regions. The aim of this study is to provide ideas regarding the main questions (including theoretical, typological, dimensional and cost-related concerns) linked to natural disasters and examine which questions can stimulate reflections ranging from theoretical considerations to more practical and operational issues. A place of emotions: The sacred mount of Varallo
Religious geography can be explored from a number of different perspectives. The aim of this paper is to examine the geographical aspects of faith experiences in a specific holy site, the Sacred Mount of Varallo. This case study could be also relevant in the context of debates on the authenticity of the experience, pilgrimage and religious tourism, communitas and contestation, unity and diversity. In particular, the findings of our research indicate the existence of different types of visitors of the holy site, whose main motivations vary between sacred and secular and, at the same time, who are strictly interrelated for their affection for, or spiritual connection to, the Sacred Mount. To understand these different types of visitors, the reasons people set out on their journey to this destination, and how they appreciate what they learn, see and experience along the way, we decided to carry out a survey and compare the results to one undertaken in 1994. The comparison primarily regarded the information of the personal data file and the relationship between visitors, resources and territory, and allowed us to observe what and how some visitors’ attitudes have changed over time
