Experimental validation of docking and capture using space robotics testbeds
Docking concepts include capture, berthing, and docking. The definitions of these terms, consistent with AIAA, are as follows: (1) capture (grasping)--the use of a manipulator to make initial contact and attachment between transfer vehicle and a platform; (2) berthing--positioning of a transfer vehicle or payload into platform restraints using a manipulator; and (3) docking--propulsive mechanical connection between vehicle and platform. The combination of the capture and berthing operations is effectively the same as docking; i.e., capture (grasping) + berthing = docking. These concepts are discussed in terms of Martin Marietta's ability to develop validation methods using robotics testbeds
Further Observations on the Nesting Behavior of \u3ci\u3eLiris Argentatus\u3c/i\u3e (Hymenoptera: Sphecidae)
A three-celled nest of Liris argentatus was excavated and examined in upstate New York. The nest was constructed from the terminus of an abandoned cicada-killer burrow and the cells contained 1-4 incompletely paralyzed Gryllus pennsylvanicus as prey. Two of the three cells were cleptoparasitized by the satellite fly Senotainia trilineata. The components of the ecology and behavior of L. argentatus we observed are compared with those from previous studies on this species

Experimental validation of docking and capture using space robotics testbeds
This presentation describes the application of robotic and computer vision systems to validate docking and capture operations for space cargo transfer vehicles. Three applications are discussed: (1) air bearing systems in two dimensions that yield high quality free-flying, flexible, and contact dynamics; (2) validation of docking mechanisms with misalignment and target dynamics; and (3) computer vision technology for target location and real-time tracking. All the testbeds are supported by a network of engineering workstations for dynamic and controls analyses. Dynamic simulation of multibody rigid and elastic systems are performed with the TREETOPS code. MATRIXx/System-Build and PRO-MATLAB/Simulab are the tools for control design and analysis using classical and modern techniques such as H-infinity and LQG/LTR. SANDY is a general design tool to optimize numerically a multivariable robust compensator with a user-defined structure. Mathematica and Macsyma are used to derive symbolically dynamic and kinematic equations

The role of motivation to change in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder
The primary purpose of this study was to examine the role of motivation in the treatment of individuals hospitalized for severe OCD, specifically, the extent to which an individual’s motivation for treatment and motivational orientation (intrinsic or extrinsic motivation) predict OCD treatment response. The sample consisted of 142 individuals diagnosed with severe treatment-refractory OCD participating in an intensive treatment program. Patients completed a measure assessing overall motivation and motivational orientation at admission (TSRQ), and measures assessing depressive severity (BDI) and OCD symptom severity (Y-BOCS) at admission and discharge. Hierarchical multiple regression analyses were performed in which admission levels of overall motivation, intrinsic motivation, and extrinsic motivation were examined as predictors of OCD treatment response when controlling for length of treatment and baseline levels of OCD and depressive symptoms. Results indicate that a high initial level of extrinsic motivation was associated with poorer treatment outcome when controlling for other variables. Furthermore, findings suggest intrinsic motivation appears to have an interactive effect with OCD symptom severity, such that a high level of intrinsic motivation at the outset of treatment may predict positive treatment outcome when OCD symptoms are more severe. Overall initial level of motivation was not found to be a significant predictor of OCD treatment outcome. Treatment implications and suggestions for future research are discussed
