Passively Stabilized Doubly-Resonant Brillouin Fiber Lasers
We consider ultra narrow-line lasers based on doubly-resonant fiber cavities, describe experimental techniques, and present two methods for passive stabilization of single-frequency fiber Brillouin lasers. In the first approach, Brillouin fiber laser is passively stabilized at the pump resonance frequency by employing the self-injection locking phenomenon. We have demonstrated that this locking phenomenon delivers a significant narrowing of the pump laser linewidth and generates the Stokes wave with linewidth of about 0.5 kHz. In the second methodology, the fiber laser is stabilized with an adaptive dynamical grating self-organized in un-pumped Er-doped optical fiber. The laser radiates a single-frequency Stokes wave with a linewidth narrower than 100 Hz. The ring resonators of both presented lasers are simultaneously resonant for the pump and the Stokes radiations. For adjusting the double resonance at any preselected pump laser wavelength, we offer a procedure that provides a good accuracy of the final resonance peak location with ordinary measurement and cutting errors. The stable regime for both Brillouin lasers is observed during some intervals, which are interrupted by short-time jumping-intervals. The lasers’ stability can be improved by utilizing polarization-maintaining (PM) fiber configuration and a cavity protection system
Majority Rule Dynamics in Finite Dimensions
We investigate the long-time behavior of a majority rule opinion dynamics
model in finite spatial dimensions. Each site of the system is endowed with a
two-state spin variable that evolves by majority rule. In a single update
event, a group of spins with a fixed (odd) size is specified and all members of
the group adopt the local majority state. Repeated application of this update
step leads to a coarsening mosaic of spin domains and ultimate consensus in a
finite system. The approach to consensus is governed by two disparate time
scales, with the longer time scale arising from realizations in which spins
organize into coherent single-opinion bands. The consequences of this
geometrical organization on the long-time kinetics are explored.Comment: 8 pages, 2-column revtex format, 11 figures. Version 2: minor changes

Use of Non-distractive Testing AU-E Technology to Evaluate Hearth Conditions at CherMK–SEVERSTAL
Intensive operation of blast furnace allows increase in production of hot metal and profitability of Iron & Steel Works. However, blast furnace life could be sacrificed if no measures are taken to protect refractory lining and to build stable accretion. CherMK and Hatch developed a systematic approach to monitor conditions of BF hearth lining using Acousto Ultrasonic-Echo (AU-E) non-destructive testing developed by Hatch. Multiple testing of blast furnaces revealed problematic areas with accelerated refractory deterioration and minimal thickness, formation of elephant foot, extent of accretion and speed of refractory wear, cracks and other anomalies. Improvement in coke quality, periodical staves washing, the addition of titania, grouting, etc., were recommended and implemented to prolong furnace life while maintaining the intensity of furnace operation.

Phase separation of the Potts model in que square lattice
When the two dimensional q-color Potts model in the square lattice is
quenched at zero temperature with Glauber dynamics, the energy decreases in
time following an Allen-Cahn power law, and the system converges to a phase
with energy higher than the ground state energy after an arbitrary large time
when q>4. At low but finite temperature, it cesses to obey the power-law regime
and orders after a very long time, which increases with q, and before which it
performs a domain growth process which tends to be slower as q increases. We
briefly present and comment numerical results on the ordering at nonzero
temperature.Comment: 3 pages, 1 figure, proceedings of the "International Workshop on

Fiber Laser for Phase-Sensitive Optical Time-Domain Reflectometry
We have designed a new fiber laser configuration with an injection-locked DFB laser applicable for phase-sensitive optical time-domain reflectometry. A low-loss fiber optical ring resonator (FORR) is used as a high finesse filter for the self-injection locking of the DFB (IL-DFB) laser. By varying the FORR fidelity, we have compared the DFB laser locking with FORR operating in the under-coupled, critically coupled, and over-coupled regimes. The critical coupling provides better frequency locking and superior narrowing of the laser linewidth. We have demonstrated that the locked DFB laser generates a single-frequency radiation with a linewidth less than 2.5 kHz if the FORR operates in the critically coupled regime. We have employed new IL-DFB laser configuration operating in the critical coupling regime for detection and localization of the perturbations in phase-sensitive OTDR system. The locked DFB laser with a narrow linewidth provides reliable long-distance monitoring of the perturbations measured through the moving differential processing algorithm. The IL-DFB laser delivers accurate localization of the vibrations with a frequency as low as ~50 Hz at a distance of 9270 m providing the same signal-to-noise ratio that is achievable with an expensive ultra-narrow linewidth OEwaves laser (OE4020–155000-PA-00)
Logical-mathematical Evaluation Model of Blast-furnace Melting Operation
The logical-mathematical evaluation model of blast-furnace melting operation is represented. The model provides an opportunity to evaluate the normal operation mode of blast furnace and further deviations from this mode such as overdeveloped gas flows (peripheral and central), violation of thermal melting conditions (hot and cold course of melt), violation of smooth descent of burned materials in the furnace (tight furnace operation, higher and lower suspension of burden). The functional capabilities of developed software are represented.
