Sociocultural Competence Training in Higher Engineering Education: The Role of Gaming Simulation
The present study focuses on competency-based approach in higher engineering education. Today engineers are required to be socially, culturally and communicatively skilled and able to act in constantly changing sociocultural environment. Presently the development of engineersβ sociocultural competency is of great importance, which is seen from the criteria for accrediting engineering programs of numerous international organizations, e.g. ABET. The paper presents some methods of sociocultural competency training based on the techniques of gaming simulation. Here we describe the educational games βIntercultural communicationβ and βThe art of presentationβ for the students of Elite Education Department of National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University. The results of incorporating the gaming technologies in education contribute to the effectiveness of engineersβ sociocultural competency training. The paper ends by pointing out gaming simulation which is a cutting-edge pedagogical approach which allows students to participate in realistic scenarios and develop sociocultural competency

The object of the study served as an open joint stock company "Stroytransgaz Siberia" carries out its activity on the territory of Tomsk region. The study period was three years (2013-2015). In the financial-economic activity of the organization major means is one of the Central places. Their effective use promotes optimal and economical consumption of other types of resources (e.g., raw materials, etc.). Thus, the condition and effective use of fixed assets depend on the quality of the activities of the entity. The main indicators characterizing the efficiency of use of fixed assets are capital productivity, capital intensity and fondamentalisti. Also important, the coefficients of technical condition of fixed assets (coefficients of shelf life wear). As specific measures to improve the efficiency of use of fixed assets of OJSC "Stroytransgaz Siberia" it was proposed to use a special deemphasize the gaps between the actual physical condition of fixed assets and their accounting treatment

With a typical cranial shape, the ISF process was used to manufacture the titanium cranial shape by using different ISF tooling solutions with and without backing plates. Detailed evaluation of the ISF process including material deformation and thinning, geometric accuracy and surface finish was conducted by using a combination of experimental testing and Finite Element (FE) simulation. The results show that satisfactory cranial shape can be achieved with sufficient accuracy and surface finish by using a feature based tool path generation method and new ISF tooling design. The results also demonstrate that the ISF based cranial reconstruction has the potential to achieve considerable lead time reduction as compared to conventional methods for cranial plate manufacturing. This outcome indicates that there is a potential for the ISF process to achieve technological advances and economic benefits as well as improvement to quality of life
