The Conscience Consumer has an important role in society adopting practices in their daily chooses that privilege aspects as sustainability and social responsibility.
As a consequence of the flexibilization of rules for launching undergraduate programs and schools in Brazil, occurred in 1995, an expressive increase in the supply of courses from private institutions was observed in the last 15 years. During such period, even though the number of Brazilian freshmen has more than tripled, a gradate increase in the difference between the supply of higher education and its demand is verified. This scenario aggravates when the fact that evasion indexes are increasing is taken into account. Thus, in face of pressures caused by the decrease in the percentages of occupancy rates, it is relevant and necessary for superior education institutions to identify marketing strategies that fit their needs to maintain and expand their activities. In such a context, the objectives of this quantitative study based on a sample of 226 high school seniors from Piracicaba (SP) were to identify the socio-demographic profiles of prospects in the region and the attributes that drive their choices for a higher education institution. The profile identified as having greater intention to join higher education programs is comprised by students who attend the private high school system, have around 17 years old, are white male and do not work. Still based on the data collected, it is suggested that effective university offerings and communications are those that fulfill the prospects’ expectations regarding campus localization, financial viability of the course, social life, infra-structure, technology, campus attributes, and institutional reputation, besides quality. Key words: marketing in education, higher education, consumer behavior, evaluation of choice alternatives. Mechanisms of food safety and quality regulation.
O nÃvel médio foi o mais preferido (R 8,00) e alto (R 12.00), followed by the lower (R 16,00). That could mean a trade-off in favor of a lower price and a dissociation of these attribute as an element of a high quality perception. Only 7.1% of the interviewees affirm that the price contributed to a higher perception of the high product quality while for the intensive monitoring was 73.6%. It was not possible to identify consumers' segments with different behaviors and preferences. The Ordered Probit model and the Poisson regression model were used to analyze the complementarity and substitution relationship. Between brand and monitoring, maintaining the price constant, the perception of the product quality by the consumer is significantly higher when there is a concomitant increase of the intensity of knowledge on the brand and on the intensity of the monitoring in relation to an exclusive increase of each those mechanisms. It was also verified that complementarity is significantly higher from a low level to a medium level than from a medium level to a high level. Concerning complementarity between price and monitoring, maintaining the intensity of knowledge about the constant brand, the complementarity was also verified but in a smaller level of significance. Public policies and private strategies that improve the quality perception of the consumer's quality regarding meat consumption were suggested. Due to the small geographical scope of the data analyzed, other studies conducted in other places can prove the complementarity or not of those mechanisms, and capture regional differences. Applications of this model to other problems that involve private and public strategies combined, as the environmental issues, can be also useful

PERCEPÇÃO DO CONSUMIDOR SOBRE OS ATRIBUTOS DE DIFERENCIAÇÃO NO SEGMENTO RURAL: CAFÉ NO MERCADO INTERNO
Differentiation through added value improvement has been explored by strategy and marketing literature. However, because of the
distance between growers, final-consumers and technical features not always easily understood by the consumers, differentiation
attributes adopted in agricultural production may not be perceived or valorized by the consumers. The article aims to verify whether
the strategies of differentiation of rural coffee growers, through the introduction of products that value the origin or the production
process have been noticed by Brazilian consumers. For that purpose, a research was conducted with 300 upper-crust consumers in
coffee shops and supermarkets in the capital of the state of São Paulo in March and April 2005. The results demonstrated consumers’
perception, particularly related to the coffees which were produced without the use of pesticides. However, the products differentiated
by the attributes of the processing companies brand are perceived as more attractive when compared with those regarding to the
region of origin or process of agricultural production
RELATIONAL EXCHANGE AND PARTNERSHIPS: THE IPANEMA COFFEE CASE
The case studied, Ipanema coffee, illustrates how market demand for high quality product conducted the company to build longterm relationship with its suppliers, the farmers, in order to guarantee access to high value consumer international markets. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with the major company shareholder and also with the marketing director along with desk research for the coffee sector panorama. The long term contract appeared as a prosperous alliance strategy in the measure that a) reduces the risk related to the coffee quality attributes, b) creates a competitive advantage though the appropriability of specific assets related to the coffee growing and processing, c) permits the creation of a brand name capital. The relational exchange has been successful once it allowed the firm to export 1 million bags for 25 countries. On the other hand, as expected in partnerships, the other party, the farmers, has incentives to continue the relationship, once it permits: a) international market access, b) premium prices, c) risk minimization with hedge operation, and d) no investment in coffee processing structure
