Effect of survey parameters on unmanned aerial vehicles-derived topography for coastal dune monitoring

Coastal dunes are fragile ecosystems emerging at the interface between marine and continental environments. They provide multiple services, among which are the protection against the impact of storms and the hosting of diverse and unique species of fauna and flora. However, changes in the topography or biological component of these systems may endanger the perpetuation of service provision. Topographic changes within dunes can significantly differ in magnitude depending on the type of process (i.e., marine or aeolian) and the temporal scale of analysis (event to annual scale), making their monitoring a challenging task. In recent years, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have been increasingly used to monitor coastal dunes, proving to be a cost-efficient methodology for the collection of topographic data. Yet, the application of UAVs in combination with the structure from motion approach to obtain digital surface models (DSMs) presents some limitations related to the level of accuracy provided for the evaluation of topographical changes in dunes with low sedimentation rates. This work explores different survey configurations using UAVs flying at low altitudes with the aim of obtaining high-quality DSMs with vertical accuracies preferably around or lower than 0.04 m. Several tests were performed to evaluate the influence of different parameters on the accuracy of the DSM, including flight altitude and orientation, density and spatial distribution of ground control points (GCPs), terrain slope, vegetation cover, and sun-related parameters. The results indicate that the intended accuracies can be obtained by combining overlapped perpendicular flights, GCPs distributed regularly following a diamond grid, with densities of at least 6 GCPs per hectare, sun altitudes between 30 and 40 deg, and a total solar radiation per hour between 1750 and 2250 KJ / m(2). In addition, better results were obtained across gentle slope areas, suggesting the eventual need to adapt to the particularities of each site to ensure the accuracy.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

O Diretor de Turma: perfil e competências

Esta investigação visa estudar as concepções que os Alunos e os Diretores de Turma possuem relativamente ao perfil e às funções do Diretor de Turma, bem como analisar as competências que os Diretores de Escola privilegiam num docente para exercer o cargo de Diretor de Turma. Pretende-se saber se, apesar de existir um suporte legislativo que concede a este professor responsabilidades específicas no domínio da coordenação, há inconsistência entre esta atribuição de poderes e a respetiva operacionalização, assim como conhecer o perfil desejado para um Diretor de Turma. As principais inferências deste estudo reforçam a ideia de que, apesar de haver professores que não se encontram aptos para o exercício desta função, os Diretores de Turma são vistos como pessoas importantes na Escola. Porém, os alunos e os próprios Diretores de Turma não reconhecem, na prática, a autoridade destes docentes relativamente aos demais professores da turma. Quanto ao perfil desejado para um Diretor de Turma, são assinaladas, como as mais importantes, as características do foro psicológico. Das competências privilegiadas pelos Diretores de Escola, destacam-se a disponibilidade, a capacidade de diálogo e de liderança, a experiência, o fácil relacionamento, a tolerância e a dedicação por parte destes docentes.Palavras-chave: Diretor de turma; alunos; perfil; competências; funções

Ser professor hoje. O que pensam os professores das suas competências

Na sociedade do conhecimento e na era da globalização as mudanças ocorrem a um ritmo vertiginoso, ditando novas necessidades nas mais diversas áreas. Na área da educação, os professores que outrora tinham como principal papel ensinar, são agora confrontados com novos papéis. Perante este desafio, o papel do professor, bem como as competências essenciais ao desempenho da actividade docente, numa sociedade complexa, heterogénea e flutuante nos valores, do século XXI, constituíram a temática de um estudo científico. Através de uma pesquisa qualitativa, mas também quantitativa, fundada em testemunhos de professores do 3º ciclo do ensino básico e do secundário de escolas do concelho de Almada (Portugal) recolhidos por meio de inquéritos, e tendo por base sobretudo o referencial teórico de Philippe Perrenoud, identificou-se as competências que o grupo de docentes julga essencial ao seu actual papel e analisou-se em que medida os mesmos assumem, nas suas actuações, essas mesmas competências, enquanto profissionais do ensino. Os resultados deste estudo evidenciaram que os docentes privilegiam as competências relativas ao domínio pedagógico, tais como: «Envolver os Alunos na Aprendizagem e no seu Trabalho», «Organizar e Dirigir Situações de Aprendizagem» e «Administrar a Progressão das Aprendizagens». Por outro lado, confirmou-se a harmonia entre as competências que os docentes privilegiam como essenciais ao seu actual papel, e as competências que assumem no seu ofício de professor.Palavras-chave: globalização; escola; professor; competência; perfil

Sand bypass and updrift beach evolution after jetty construction at an ebb-tidal delta

The evolution of an ebb-tidal delta (Guadiana, South Portugal) and its updrift beach after jetty construction (in 1972e1974) is analysed based on 24 ortho-rectified aerial photographs (1940e2012) and 13 bathymetric maps (1969e2014). The objectives are to evaluate the re-establishment of the sand bypassing process and if the disruption of the historical delta may affect the updrift beach evolution. Post-jetty progradation of the updrift beach resulted from two large accretion events. The second (largest) event (110 m progradation in 1985e1994) was due to beach attachment of a shoal produced by the erosion of a broad shallow area relict of the historical delta. The reworking of sand from this relict area also enables the individualisation of a lateral updrift bar simultaneously with the new ebb shoal proper formation. Both morphological features were close to (volume) equilibrium in 1995, indicating that most of the sand was transported towards the downdrift side of the inlet at that time. EntretextosNeste trabalho, apresentamos os resultados de uma investigação realizada durante os anos de 2007 a 2009, cujo objetivo foi descrever o percurso de aquisição da língua portuguesa por uma criança brasileira. A pesquisa foi descritiva longitudinal, com abordagem qualitativa, utilizando o estudo de caso como estratégia. Os dados obtidos foram analisados de acordo com as seguintes áreas da linguagem: fonologia, morfologia, sintaxe, semântica e pragmática, e comparados com os dados fornecidos pelo referencial teórico disponível.In this paper, we present the results of an investigation accomplished during the years 2007 to 2009, which goal was to describe the route of Portuguese-speaking acquisition by a brazilian girl. The research was longitudinal descriptive, with qualitative approach, using the case study as strategy. Object oriented platform to RDBMS stored procedures

Object-oriented programming (OOP) is the most successful paradigm used in programming environments. Some difficulties arise when it is necessary to deal with data stored in a relational database because relational databases do not provide an object-oriented interface to their entities. The most common solution consists in developing a specific interface that guarantees some specific requirements. Methodology for Dynamic WEB Pages Assembly

Structure, presentation and content are the 3 main blocks in web pages. Although HTML is the main technology for web pages development, it doesn’t provide mechanisms for a clear separation of these 3 blocks, which would be a great step towards the construction of flexible web pages. If one could define on the fly, which structure, presentation and content to use, web pages would reach their maximum flexibility. With this flexibility, each web page could reach specific goals in terms of users needs, namely, user disabilities (visual, hearing, motor, cognitive), user learning profile, etc. Here, it is presented a methodology to achieve the above mentioned goals
