Following the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the well-being of millions of Ukrainians has been jeopardised. This study aims to translate and test the psychometric features of the Ukrainian version of the General Health Questionnaire 12 (GHQ-12). The study included Ukrainian refugees housed in Verona (Italy) between November/2022 and February/2023. The Ukrainian translation was obtained through a 'forward-backward' translation. Questionnaire was completed by 141 refugees (females: 78.7%). Median age was 36 years (IQR 23-43). Individuals with a score suggestive of psychological distress were 97 (68.8%). Cronbach's coefficient was 0.84 (0.95CI 0.80-0.88). According to confirmatory factor analysis, both single- (modelB1) and two-factor (model B2) structures with bimodal scoring method fitted the data satisfactorily. The two factors of model B2 had a 0.88 correlation. Pearson coefficient showed a positive significant correlation between the GHQ-12 and International Trauma Questionnaire scores (ρ = 0.53, 0.95CI 0.40-0.64, p < 0.001). The GHQ-12 Ukrainian translation showed good psychometric features being a reliable and valid instrument to assess Ukrainian refugees' general well-being

No full text
The research is dedicated to creation of a complete Bibliography of translations from Russian to Italian in 1924-1945. The Bibliography includes only literary works, written in Russian, translated from Russian, and published in Italy. Following those criteria, we have selected 1155 books. Those were divided in four phases, according to the frequency of publications per year. The four phases were defined as growth (1924-1929), saturation (1930-1933), downfall (1934-1940) and renewal (1940- 1945). Each phase has been analysed from the point of view of involvement of Italian publishers in the promotion of Russian literature and of their selection of authors and titles to be printed. The analysis included the discovery of the original Russian title, often covered by a totally casual Italian one. We also offered information about minor Russian authors, especially about those who emigrated in Italy and has never been published in Russia. The materials for the research included, besides the study of the old editions, reading of literary magazines as well as books of memories and letters of main personalities of Italian cultural world of fascist period. The analysis has shown that the publications translated from Russian are following the general trends of relationship between fascist Italy and soviet Russia. During the phase of growth there is a vivid interest due to the fact that Russia is still an unknown territory that attracts attention of readers. In the same time, the publishers who need to find new proposals to satisfy the growing market request, find in Russian literature a valuable source of new novels of secure success. The Russian novels appear both in elaborate translations targeted at educated readers, and in popular editions that are treating the source text in a very negligent way. During the saturation phase, when the Italian society was more controlled by censorship of fascist government, the interest in Soviet Russia was more specific: besides the classic authors of Nineteenth century we can find many modern soviet authors, whose works were a source of information about soviet life, which has been seen with curiosity or abhorred as a negative example, opposite to fascist way of implementing social revolution and constructing of a “new man”. During the downfall phase, when Italy becomes German ally, the publishing business has to adapt itself and introduce self-censorship and very strict selection of titles to be published. Therefore in this period the choice of Russian classical authors was limited to those with lesser ideological contents, and works of Russian emigrants of anti-soviet orientation were highly welcome. The renewal phase instead was unpredictable and based mainly on internal political events. During the war time Russian and Soviet literature did not disappear, and in the post-war years there were an explosion of pro-soviet publications. Throughout the description of those four phases we have highlighted and illustrated the evolution of publishers’ and translators’ attitude towards the translation, that changes from total indifference to the integrity of source text to the major respect of the texts’ composition unity and style characteristics, that produces some translation of highest quality, that survive till present days. Particular attention has been paid also to the role of Russian immigrants resident in Italy and active in publishing business as consultants and translators in the promotion of their culture in Italy

Professional self-development as is one of the key targets of the higher education system. The digital transformation of the professional training sphere analyses the features of future specialists’ self-assessment of individual ability to transform themselves, their living conditions and professional activities. The information about the influence of the distance-learning format on professional self-esteem and self-development in future specialists are poorly systematized in the modern scientific literature. The aim of the article is the study of future educational psychologists and social educators’ attitude to the distance learning as a resource for self-development, the analysis of the correlation between future professionals’ quality evaluation of the organization and content of distance learning process in the period of the pandemic and self-assessment of their skills. We used the empirical methods: survey methods to collect data from respondents. The subject is the opportunities for self-development of the future specialist of the psycho-pedagogical fields in the conditions of distance format of obtaining a profession. The mathematical and mathematical statistics methods were used. The sample set of respondents consisted of 57 2-4 years students of full-time and part-time education of the Faculty of Psychology and Social Pedagogy of the State University of Humanities and Technology, Orekhovo-Zuyevo

Impaired Melatonin Secretion, Oxidative Stress and Metabolic Syndrome in Night Shift Work

No full text
Metabolic syndrome has been associated in many studies with working in shifts. Even if the mechanistic details are not fully understood, forced sleep deprivation and exposure to light, as happens during night shifts, or irregular schedules with late or very early onset of the working program, lead to a sleep–wake rhythm misalignment, metabolic dysregulation and oxidative stress. The cyclic melatonin secretion is regulated by the hypothalamic suprachiasmatic nuclei and light exposure. At a central level, melatonin promotes sleep and inhibits wake-signals. Beside this role, melatonin acts as an antioxidant and influences the functionality of the cardiovascular system and of different metabolic processes. This review presents data about the influence of night shifts on melatonin secretion and oxidative stress. Assembling data from epidemiological, experimental and clinical studies contributes to a better understanding of the pathological links between chronodisruption and the metabolic syndrome related to working in shifts

Multi-Analytical Characterization of Corvins’ Castle—Deserted Tower. Construction Materials and Conservation Tests

No full text
The aim of this paper is to analyze the construction materials (mortars) of an architectural monument (Deserted Tower (Lilly Tower) from Corvins’ Castle, Romania). The mortars were characterized following a multidisciplinary approach, combining macroscopic observation with petrographic microscopy, mineralogical analysis (X-ray diffraction) and elemental analysis (X-ray fluorescence), hydric properties, and color of representative samples of the monument. The results revealed the use of gypsum mortars (produced by lumps with higher Fe content), with minor concentrations of crystalline dolomites of the Southern Carpathians, calcite, and quartz. The materials’ effective porosity and their water absorption capacity were high. A possible solution to consolidate the damaged area with some consolidation products (hydroxyapatite carbonate and its derivatives with Ag and Sr) was investigated, too. The interactions between the mortar’s specimens and the effectiveness of the consolidation treatments were evaluated by physico-chemical analyses (molecular structure by X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence (WDXRF), dynamic light scattering (DLS)), morphological characterization by microscopic techniques as SEM-EDS, TEM, and physical and mechanical investigations (peeling test and compressive strength). Results were drawn based on historical, in situ observations, and analytical data, and put into evidence the composition, high weathering degree, and the possibility to surface consolidate with Sr-CHAp
