    Delphinidin immobilized on silver nanoparticles for the simultaneous determination of ascorbic acid, noradrenalin, uric acid, and tryptophan

    AbstractIn the present study, the fabrication of a new modified electrode for electrocatalytic oxidation of noradrenalin, based on the delphinidin immobilized on silver nanoparticles modified glassy carbon electrode. Cyclic voltammetry was used to investigate the redox properties of this modified electrode. The surface charge transfer rate constant (ks) and the charge transfer coefficient (α) for the electron transfer between the glassy carbon electrode and the immobilized delphinidin were calculated. The differential pulse voltammetry exhibited two linear dynamic ranges and a detection limit of 0.40μM for noradrenalin determination. Moreover, the present electrode could separate the oxidation peak potentials of ascorbic acid, noradrenalin, uric acid, and tryptophan in a mixture. The usefulness of this nanosensor was also investigated for the determination of ascorbic acid, noradrenalin, and uric acid in pharmaceutical and biological fluid samples with satisfactory results

    Comparative study of municipal solid waste generation and composition in Shiraz city (2014)

    Background: Exponential growths of population and urbanization, and the development of social economy have resulted in an increase in the amount of MSW generation throughout the world. Objective: The present study aimed to survey qualitative and quantitative analysis of solid waste in Shiraz city and comparative these results with the world scenario of solid wastes generation for improving the sustainable management of solid waste. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in 2014 in nine municipality regions Shiraz with a total population of approximately 1,549,354 people. Basic data was gathered through Shiraz waste management organization. Then generation (per capita) and constituent percent of the solid waste were evaluated based on the sampling and field analyzing from reliable guidelines. Data were analyzed with Stata-13 and Excel statistical software. Kolmogorov-Smirnov test used for the normality of variables. Means were compared by Student T test and Mann-Whitney test. Findings: The rate of solid waste generated in the Shiraz city was 222.65 kg per person per year in 2014. Statistical analysis showed that the variables of organic materials, paper and cardboard, glass and metal between developed and developing countries were a significant difference (P<0.05) while plastics and textiles and were not significantly different (P>0.05). Conclusion: Solid waste per capita in Shiraz city (about 600g/day) was near to the average amount of solid waste generation in Iran and other developing countries. Due to the high content of organic material in municipal solid waste of Shiraz, minimization of these material and separation of dry and wet solid wastes must be noted from the people and municipalities

    The relationship between severity of epilepsy and sleep disorder in epileptic children

    Background: Sleep disturbances are one of the most common behavioral problems in childhood. Sleep problems have an even greater prevalence in children with epilepsy and are one of the most common comorbid conditions in childhood epilepsy.Methods: The present study was a descriptive- correlation study with the general goal of determining the effects of epilepsy on sleep habits of epileptic children in Hamadan, Iran, in 2014. Sampling was done using convenience sampling techniques. Data was collected by using The Early Childhood Epilepsy Severity Scale (E-Chess) and Children’s Sleep Habits Questionnaire (CSHQ). It was analyzed by using SPSS (20) and descriptive and inferential statistics.Results: The mean score of sleep habits were 55/08 ± 6/71. Bedtime resistance (12/14 ± 2/93), parasomnias (11/02 ± 1/84) and sleep anxiety (8/29 ± 2/46) were the most frequent sleep disorders in the studied sample. Based on Pearson’s r, there were significant positive bidirectional relationships between bedtime resistance (rs = 0.129, p &lt; 0.019), parasomnias (rs = 0.298, p &lt; 0.005), sleep disordered breathing (rs = 0.295, p &lt; 0.005), CSHQ total score (rs = 0.144, p &lt; 0.022) on the one hand, and children’s epilepsy severity on the other.Conclusion: Sleep problems should not be overlooked, and a comprehensive review of the sleep habits of this group of patients should be conducted.

    Evaluation of Histological Impacts of Three Types of Orthodontic Fixed Retainers on Periodontium of Rabbits

    Statement of the Problem: Fixed retainers were developed to maintain incisor alignments after orthodontic treatments. Although the effects of fixed retainers on periodontal health are clinically studied, no studies have still evaluated the histological changes in the periodontium after the placement of thefixed retainers. Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of customised retainers on periodontium histologically. Materials and Method: Forty pairs of maxillary and mandibular central incisors of twenty rabbits were randomly divided into four equal groups: The first group was considered as the control and in the second group, Fiber Reinforced Composite (FRC), in the third group, 0.014 inch stainless steel (SS) wire and in the fourth group, 0.175 inch multistrand stainless steel (MSS) wire were bonded on the labial surfaces of the incisors. After sixty days; animals' periodontium were evaluated histologically. Results: The number of bone resorption lacuna in the control group was significantly less than FRC and 0.014 SS groups. The periodontal vessel count and their diameter in the control group was significantly lower than the other groups. The pulp vessel count and their diameter in controls were significantly more than the 0.014 SS and the 0.175 MSS groups. Conclusion: Findings of this study suggest that FRC fixed retainer might cause detrimental effects on the periodontal ligaments and supporting bone and the 0.014- inch and 0.175- inch fixed retainers can cause hyalinization and possibly the necrosis of the pulp

    Spatial analysis of seasonal precipitation over Iran: Co-variation with climate indices

    Temporary changes in precipitation may lead to sustained and severe drought or massive floods in different parts of the world. Knowing the variation in precipitation can effectively help the water resources decision-makers in water resources management. Large-scale circulation drivers have a considerable impact on precipitation in different parts of the world. In this research, the impact of El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO), Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO), and North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) on seasonal precipitation over Iran was investigated. For this purpose, 103 synoptic stations with at least 30 years of data were utilized. The Spearman correlation coefficient between the indices in the previous 12 months with seasonal precipitation was calculated, and the meaningful correlations were extracted. Then, the month in which each of these indices has the highest correlation with seasonal precipitation was determined. Finally, the overall amount of increase or decrease in seasonal precipitation due to each of these indices was calculated. Results indicate the Southern Oscillation Index (SOI), NAO, and PDO have the most impact on seasonal precipitation, respectively. Additionally, these indices have the highest impact on the precipitation in winter, autumn, spring, and summer, respectively. SOI has a diverse impact on winter precipitation compared to the PDO and NAO, while in the other seasons, each index has its special impact on seasonal precipitation. Generally, all indices in different phases may decrease the seasonal precipitation up to 100%. However, the seasonal precipitation may increase more than 100% in different seasons due to the impact of these indices. The results of this study can be used effectively in water resources management and especially in dam operation

    Evaluation of targetable biomarkers for chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) in the treatment of pancreatic cancer:a systematic review and meta-analysis of preclinical studies

    One of the cutting edge techniques for treating cancer is the use of the patient's immune system to prevail cancerous disease. The versatility of the chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell approach in conjugation with promising treatments in haematological cancer has led to countless cases of research literature for the treatment of solid cancer. A systematic search of online databases as well as gray literature and reference lists of retrieved studies were carried out up to March 2019 to identify experimental animal studies that investigated the antigens targeted by CAR T-cell for pancreatic cancer treatment. Studies were evaluated for methodological quality using the SYstematic Review Center for Laboratory Animal Experimentation bias risk tool (SYRCLE's ROB tool). Pooled cytotoxicity ratio/percentage and 95% confidence intervals were calculated using the inverse-variance method while random-effects meta-analysis was used, taking into account conceptual heterogeneity. Heterogeneity was assessed with the Cochran Q statistic and quantified with the I2 statistic using Stata 13.0. Of the 485 identified studies, 56 were reviewed in-depth with 16 preclinical animal studies eligible for inclusion in the systematic review and 11 studies included in our meta-analysis. CAR immunotherapy significantly increased the cytotoxicity assay (percentage: 65%; 95% CI: 46%, 82%). There were no evidence for significant heterogeneity across studies [P = 0.38 (Q statistics), I2 = 7.14%] and for publication bias. The quality assessment of included studies revealed that the evidence was moderate to low quality and none of studies was judged as having a low risk of bias across all domains. CAR T-cell therapy is effective for pancreatic cancer treatment in preclinical animal studies. Further high-quality studies are needed to confirm our finding and a standard approach of this type of studies is necessary according to our assessment.</p

    The Prevalence of Internet Addiction and Its Relation With Demographic Factors Among the Students of Gonabad Universities

    Background: With the invention of the Internet and its widespread popularity, in addition to the many benefits, it was accompanied by many damages and problems. The biggest damage tousing this technology is addiction. Internet addiction can be a chronic, pervasive, recurring, and very damaging disorder. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of internet addiction and its relation with demographic factors among the students of Gonabad Universities in the academic year 2015-2016. Methods: The study design was cross-sectional. The sample of the study was all students of Azad and Payam Noor University of Gonabad. A total of 1182 students of Azad and Payam Noor University of Gonabad participated in the research process by simple random sampling. To collect data, the demographic questionnaire and Young’s Internet addiction scale was used. Data was analyzed using SPSS descriptive statistics software version 19, and the chi-squared test. Results: The prevalence rate of Internet addiction was 14.3%. The prevalence rate in male and female samples was 14.1% and 14.5%, respectively. A total of 33.9% of students in the sample were at risk of Internet addiction disorder. The results of chi-square test results showed no significant relationship between gender, marital status, the field of study, and Internet addiction (P>0.05). However, the results of the analysis indicated a significant relationship between age, place of residence, level of education, and type of university with the prevalence of Internet addiction (P<0.05). Conclusion: According to the high prevalence of Internet addiction among students, appropriate treatment interventions are required for Internet addiction students
