    Get PDF
Abstract The focus of this study was on school social workers\u27 perception of school climate and to determine the factors that contribute to positive environment within the school. Using the ecological framework, the study examined the views of 315 school social workers concerning the current social climate in the state of Illinois by using a number of standardized—i.e., School Survey Crime and Safety Principle—and composite sub-scales. Correlation analysis presented significant associations among the study variables. A path analysis model was developed; it included one dependent variable (School Climate) and 6 independent variables (Resources, Exposure, Communication, Measures, and Environmental Limitations). Results show a significant model with CFI (Comparative Fit Index) of .999, CMI/df (Comparative Mean Index) of 1.16, and RMSEA (Root Mean Square of Approximation) of .2. Four paths were identified as significant in explaining direct and indirect effect with school climate

The interconnectivity of political and legal discourses in the assessment of the invasion of Iraq

As a student of both international relations and international law; I have more often than not come across the same contemporary global issues and had to discuss said issues within a political or legal discourse using their respective vernaculars. I have also, more often than not, found that each discourse relies heavily on aspects of the other to adequately assess a particular phenomenon. he interconnectivity of both discourses is extensive and distinguishing between both proves rather difficult and inconsequential. his is to say that the collaboration of both disciplines within the analysis of a global conflict provides a more in-depth analysis than either discipline could separately. his practice is already present within both fields however the parameters of this approach and a refined methodology are yet to be determined. For that reason, this paper advocates for a formal interdisciplinary approach to the assessment of global conflicts which otherwise utilizes one approach or the other. his multifaceted approach would provide a more practical and more detailed insight and analysis into the causes and effects of the contemporary issues that dominate the international arena and resonate throughout both disciplines

In this work, we introduce notions of generalized firmly nonexpansive (G-firmly non expansive) and fundamentally firmly nonexpansive (F-firmly nonexpansive) mappings and utilize to the same to prove Ray's theorem for G-firmly and F-firmly nonexpansive mappings in Hilbert Spaces. Our results extend the result due to F. Kohsaka [ Ray's theorem revisited: a fixed point free firmly nonexpansive mapping in Hilbert spaces, Journal of Inequalities and Applications (2015) 2015:86 ]

Adolescents’ Perception of the Threat of Sexual Harassment: The Development of an Index

    Get PDF
In Egypt female adolescents are on a daily base victims of various forms of sexual harassment as young females re unable to justify their feelings, thoughts and behaviors toward such violent and hostile activities. Therefore, this study develops an adolescents’ sexual harassment index (ASHI), which measures female adolescents’ perception of the threat of sexual harassment based on cultural, environmental and societal aspects. A total of 874 adolescents age 17–18 in Egypt participated in a survey consisting of 65 items of 7 variables: threat of SH, exposure, society awareness, child’s characteristics, social engagement, religiosity and the effect of the media. Using factor analysis with oblimn rotation, the analysis explained 42.38 of the variation in the study variables, leading to a four-factors solution: society awareness, interpersonal characteristics, personal engagement and sense of self and reality

Parents’ Perception of School Violence, Awareness of Risk Factors, and School Safety: An Ecological Perspective

    Get PDF
Parents’ concerns about school violence and school safety have been documented in many research studies (Diaz-Vicario & Sallan, 2017; Hundeloh & Hess, 2003). Understanding parents’ perceptions of school safety can be an important issue that will guide teachers (Bosworth, Ford, & Hernandaz, 2011), administrators and staff (Heisterkamp, & Fleming, 2011), and legislators (Elliott, 2015) in setting strategies to enhance school safety and school climate. The purpose of this study is to identify factors that contribute to parents’ views of school safety. Based on existing literature, this study developed a model of one main endogenous variable -- feelings of instructional safety -- and seven additional exogenous and endogenous variables -- awareness of bulling behavior, awareness of school violence, parent visits school, communicating perspective, experience with violence, knowledge of risk, resources and school measures. A total of 403 parents who reside in the southern part of Illinois participated in the survey. Path analysis with exploratory modifications was used to examine the study model and the study hypotheses. The study findings suggested parents’ visits to school and parents’ experience with violence had statistically significant direct effects on their awareness of school violence, which had a significant direct effect on parents’ feelings of instructional safety. Although exploratory, this study provided important insights on school violence, school safety and school climate, and implications for future research in this area are discussed

Analytical and numerical solutions are investigated to study solution of the Magneto hydrodynamics (MHD) natural convection flow of grade three of a non- Newtonian fluid flow between two vertical flat plates through embedded in a porous medium and considering the effect heat source using Multi−step differential transform method and finite difference method. The system of coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations are solved analytically using Multi−step differential transform method (MDTM) and numerically using finite difference method (FDM). The results of (MDTM), (FDM), and another analytical method are all in good agreement, demonstrating that these methods are capable of solving similar problems. Graphs and tables show the effect of various parameters on velocity and temperature. The current studies, as well as comparisons to previous findings, are presented in figures and tables. The study results showed that the analytical solution using Multi−step differential transform method and numerical solution using finite difference method agrees well with recent analytical and numerical solutions

Novel Urinary Biomarkers and Chronic Kidney Disease After Coronary Angiography: A Prospective Case-Controlled Study

    Get PDF
BACKGROUND: Novel urinary biomarkers may have potential for early detection of acute kidney injury. AIM: The aim of the study was to test two urinary biomarkers: Kidney injury molecule-1(KIM-1) and liver-type fatty acid binding protein (L-FABP) as markers of kidney injury following coronary angiography. METHODS: This is a prospective non-randomized controlled trial, performed in two large teaching hospitals. Patients were recruited from the catheter lab or form nephrology outpatient clinics. In group (A), 100 patients with AKI on top of CKD after coronary angiography and Group B: Thirty-one patients with stable CKD as a control. KIM-1 and L-FABP were measured at base line and after 3 months. RESULTS: In group (A), 100 patients who had acute on top of CKD after coronary angiography, stage progression occurred in 15 patients in group (A) compared to two patients in group (B) (p = 0.28). The median change in eGFR after 3 months was not statistically significant between both groups (p = 0.8). Median baseline urinary liver-type fatty acid binding protein was higher in Group A compared to Group B (3.7 μg/g vs. 1.82μg/g). The change in L-FABP from baseline to 3 months was significant between both groups (p < 0.001). The median urinary concentrations of KIM-1 and L-FABP were higher at the end of the follow-up compared to base line values in both groups, (p < 0.000). CONCLUSION: Urinary L-FABP correlates with kidney function decline in patients with acute on top of CKD after coronary angiography. Urinary levels of KIM-1 and L-FABP at 3 months increase significantly compared to baseline in patients with progressive CKD

Objective: Nowadays, one of the growing industries is the herbal drug-based medicaments. This study sought to assess the quality and yield characterizes of black cumin under different locations through Egypt to introduce final analysis information for producers and exporters in Egypt. Methods: This experiment was carried out in seven sites in different locations through Egypt to assess the growth, yield and essential oil content of black cumin plants as following; four sites in El-Minya Governorate, two sites in Bahariya Oasis, and one site in Aswan Governorate. Results: Cultivation locations significantly affected on quality and growth characteristics. The highest seed and fixed oil yields (830 kilogram seeds and 206 kilogram fixed oil) were observed under clay loam soil (Old Land farm), while the lowest yields (500 kilogram seeds and 105 kilogram fixed oil) were observed under sandy soil (El-Nanaaih farm) at El-Menya. The highest content of active substance (Fixed oil %) was observed in clay loam sandy soil of Sekem farm and the lowest in Lena farm with sandy soil at Bahariya Oasis. Neither seed yield nor fixed oil content showed significant correlation with Na+, Cl-, and HCO3--of irrigation water. Although plants cultivated in Wadi El-Nokra at Aswan produced low fixed oil content (18.3%), main components, Linoleic and Oleic acid, were relatively high. Conclusion: The assessment of Nigella sativa under different locations gave evidence of the interactions between weather and soil properties and their impact on the quality and yield of oil of Nigella sativa plants
