Representation of Mental Illness in Young Adult Literature

    No full text
The bachelor thesis looks into the representation of psychological disorders in the Young Adult literature. This kind of literary text is targeted primarily at readers within the age group of 12-18 year-olds, but nowadays it is becoming more and more popular among readers of all ages. The thesis researches the motifs of psychological disorders in Young Adult literature, especially the authenticity of representation given the specifics of disorders, and also from the viewpoint of depicting function in the scope of literary text. However, the central theme is a cultural view of how socially taboo topics are represented in literature for adolescent readers, for whom these representations can play key role in an identification of their own troubles and identity

Diplomová práce nazvaná Rozvoj národního povědomí dětí mladšího školního věku se zabývá utvářením pozitivního vztahu současných žáků základních škol k tématice českého vlastenectví. Tento vztah lze budovat převážně dobrým pedagogickým vedením a poskytnutím kvalitních zdrojů informací o naší historii, významných osobnostech, kultuře, jazyku, tradicím a geografii. The thesis that is called Development of nationhood awareness of young learners is devoted to the formation of positive relationship current school pupils to the topic of Czech patriotism. This relationship can be built mostly by good pedagogical guidance and providing quality resources about our history, important personalities, culture, language, traditions and geography. The thesis has three main parts theoretical, research and practical part. The theoretical part focuses on the child's development and the factors that most affect his patriotic feelings. The research part is based on a research study that was carried out by two questionnaires focused on the theme of national sentiment. Last, the practical part is the project comprised of worksheets which should improve patriotism in children's minds

A Facile Two-Step PVP-Assisted Deposition of Co-Activated Nanosized Nickel Hydroxide Directly on a Substrate for Large-Scale Production of Supercapacitor Electrodes

The self-decomposition reaction of the nickel ammonia complex was used for the nickel hydroxide formation on the nickel foam with further modification in several ways. The addition of polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) and the electrochemical or chemical activation with cobalt hydroxide was used to modify the formation method. In all cases, structures with Ni(OH)2 nanoflakes were formed. It was found that the flower-like particles of Co(OH)2 were precipitated during chemical activation among the nanoflakes. It was shown that the presence of PVP during the nickel ammonia complex decomposition suppressed the highly branched particles. The absence of the highly branched particles increased the capacitive properties of the formed electrode at high current densities. The highest capacitance in 1408 F/g at 1 A/g was shown for the sample precipitated with the PVP presence and the further chemical activation by cobalt

Reorientation of π-conjugated molecules on few-layer MoS2_2 films

Small π-conjugated organic molecules have attracted substantial attention in the past decade as they are considered as candidates for future organic-based (opto-)electronic applications. The molecular arrangement in the organic layer is one of the crucial parameters that determine the efficiency of a given device. The desired orientation of the molecules is achieved by a proper choice of the underlying substrate and growth conditions. Typically, one underlying material supports only one inherent molecular orientation at its interface. Here, we report on two different orientations of diindenoperylene (DIP) molecules on the same underlayer, i.e. on a few-layer MoS2_2 substrate. We show that DIP molecules adopt a lying-down orientation when deposited on few-layer MoS2_2 with horizontally oriented layers. In contrast, for vertically aligned MoS2_2 layers, DIP molecules are arranged in a standing-up manner. Employing in situ and real-time grazing-incidence wide-angle X-ray scattering (GIWAXS), we monitored the stress evolution within the thin DIP layer from the early stages of the growth, revealing different substrate-induced phases for the two molecular orientations. Our study opens up new possibilities for the next-generation of flexible electronics, which might benefit from the combination of MoS2 layers with unique optical and electronic properties and an extensive reservoir of small organic molecules

Novel highly substituted thiophene-based n-type organic semiconductor: structural study, optical anisotropy and molecular control

Oligothiophenes and their functionalized derivatives have been shown to be a viable option for high-performance organic electronic devices. The functionalization of oligothiophene-based materials allows further tailoring of their properties for specific applications. We have synthesized a new thiophene-based molecule 1-[5′-(2-naphthyl)-2,2′-bithiophen-5-yl]hexan-1-one (NCOH), and we have studied the optical and structural properties of NCOH thin films. NCOH is a highly substituted member of the oligothiophene family, designed to improve its molecular stacking, where the presence of an electron-withdrawing group enhances its electron transport capabilities. Employing in situ and time-resolved grazing-incidence wide-angle X-ray scattering (GIWAXS) measurements, we determined the NCOH thin film crystallographic structure and its evolution starting from the early stages of the film growth. We observed strong optical anisotropy resulting from a highly oriented crystallographic structure. Additionally, we investigated the substrate-induced changes of the molecular orientation utilizing the few-layer MoS2_2 with different orientations of the atomic layers. This study, with its primary focus on the fundamentally important n-type molecular semiconductor, contributes to the field of organic-based (opto-)electronics
