Structure of particle-hole nuclei around 100Sn
We have performed shell-model calculations for the three odd-odd nuclei
100In, 102In, and 98Ag, with neutron particles and proton holes around 100Sn.
We have used a realistic effective interaction derived from the CD-Bonn
nucleon-nucleon potential, the neutron-proton channel being explicitly treated
in the particle-hole formalism. Particular attention has been focused on the
particle-hole multiplets, which are a direct source of information on the
neutron-proton effective interaction. We present our predictions for the two
lowest lying multiplets in 100In, for which no spectroscopic data are yet
available. For 98Ag and 102In comparison shows that our results are in very
good agreement with the available experimental data.Comment: 5 pages, published in Physical review
Purification of Single-photon Entanglement
Single-photon entanglement is a simple form of entanglement that exists
between two spatial modes sharing a single photon. Despite its elementary form,
it provides a resource as useful as polarization-entangled photons and it can
be used for quantum teleportation and entanglement swapping operations. Here,
we report the first experiment where single-photon entanglement is purified
with a simple linear-optics based protocol. Besides its conceptual interest,
this result might find applications in long distance quantum communication
based on quantum repeaters.Comment: Main article: 5 pages, 4 figure
High-quality polarization entanglement state preparation and manipulation in standard telecommunication channels
We report a novel and simple approach for generating near-perfect quality
polarization entanglement in a fully guided-wave fashion. Both deterministic
pair separation into two adjacent telecommunication channels and the paired
photons' temporal walk-off compensation are achieved using standard fiber
components. Two-photon interference experiments are performed, both for
quantitatively demonstrating the relevance of our approach, and for
manipulating the produced state between bosonic and fermionic symmetries. The
compactness, versatility, and reliability of this configuration makes it a
potential candidate for quantum communication applications.Comment: 6 figure
Polarization entangled photon-pair source based on a type-II PPLN waveguide emitting at a telecom wavelength
We report the realization of a fiber coupled polarization entangled
photon-pair source at 1310 nm based on a birefringent titanium in-diffused
waveguide integrated on periodically poled lithium niobate. By taking advantage
of a dedicated and high-performance setup, we characterized the quantum
properties of the pairs by measuring two-photon interference in both
Hong-Ou-Mandel and standard Bell inequality configurations. We obtained, for
the two sets of measurements, interference net visibilities reaching nearly
100%, which represent important and competitive results compared to similar
waveguide-based configurations already reported. These results prove the
relevance of our approach as an enabling technology for long-distance quantum
communication.Comment: 13 pages, 4 figures, to appear in New Journal of Physic
Shells and Shapes in the N=28 isotones
International audienceNew experimental results on 43S and 44S reveal that these nuclei are located in a transitional region of shape coexistence between the spherical 48Ca and the oblate 42Si. The origin of the deformation is discussed in terms of the evolution of the single particle energy levels leading to the compression of the energy difference of the orbitals in the sd and pf shells for protons and neutrons, respectively. Therefore, due to quadrupole excitations across the Z = 14 and N = 28 gaps, the intruder configuration in the neutron rich S isotopes became the ground state
Shell Evolution towards Ni 78: Low-Lying States in Cu 77
The level structure of the neutron-rich Cu77 nucleus is investigated through β-delayed γ-ray spectroscopy at the Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory of the RIKEN Nishina Center. Ions of Ni77 are produced by in-flight fission, separated and identified in the BigRIPS fragment separator, and implanted in the WAS3ABi silicon detector array, surrounded by Ge cluster detectors of the EURICA array. A large number of excited states in Cu77 are identified for the first time by correlating γ rays with the β decay of Ni77, and a level scheme is constructed by utilizing their coincidence relationships. The good agreement between large-scale Monte Carlo shell model calculations and experimental results allows for the evaluation of the single-particle structure near Ni78 and suggests a single-particle nature for both the 5/21- and 3/21- states in Cu77, leading to doubly magic Ni78. © 2017 American Physical Society
Integrated optical source of polarization entangled photons at 1310 nm
We report the realization of a new polarization entangled photon-pair source
based on a titanium-indiffused waveguide integrated on periodically poled
lithium niobate pumped by a CW laser at . The paired photons are
emitted at the telecom wavelength of within a bandwidth of .
The quantum properties of the pairs are measured using a two-photon coalescence
experiment showing a visibility of 85%. The evaluated source brightness, on the
order of pairs , associated with its
compactness and reliability, demonstrates the source's high potential for
long-distance quantum communication.Comment: There is a typing mistake in the previous version in the visibility
equation. This mistake doesn't change the result
