APPLICATION OF EXPECTED CREDIT LOSS MODEL AND MARKOV CHAIN TO CALCULATE NET SINGLE PREMIUM OF UNSECURED CREDIT INSURANCE

    Get PDF
Transferring credit risk to an insurance company is a way to mitigate risk. Premiums should be calculated accurately to attain economic value for both the lender and the guarantor. The aim of this study was to determine the net single premium (NSP) values for an unsecured credit insurance product using the expected credit loss (ECL) method from IFRS 9. This study used data generated through simulation of insurance policies issued in 2015 or 2016. Their state classifications were monthly observed from 2016 to 2020. The probability of disbursed claim (PDC) parameter replaced the probability of default parameter on the ECL model, whereas the PDC model was constructed based on the components of a state-transition probability matrix, obtained with the Markov chain approach using the cohort method:  = 0.999181,  = 0.000130, and  = 0.000689. The PDC model validation showed relatively decent results, whereas MSE = 2.457% and zs = 0.608 with a = 5%. These results indicated that the PDC model was a good fit to calculate ECL. 5,000 iterations were done as part of the cash flow simulation process, whereas debtors’ loan amounts were randomly generated during each iteration, and the average NPV of these iterations was -Rp564.419.305. Based on model sensitivity analysis, cash flow values were most sensitive to the variable used to construct the PDC model (). Thus, the 5,000-iteration process was repeated with the newly adjusted PDC value, which were  = 0.998924 and  = 0.000946. The new average NPV of these iterations was Rp409,877,840, indicating that the constructed ECL model was a good fit to calculate NSP values for unsecured credit insurance products

Exposure to urban particulate matter has been associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and thrombosis. We studied the effects of transient exposure to diesel particles on fibrin clot structure of 16 healthy individuals (age 21- 44). The subjects were randomly exposed to diesel exhaust and filtered air on two separate occasions. Blood samples were collected before exposure, and 2 and 6 hours after exposure. There were no significant changes on clot permeability, maximum turbidity, lag time, fibre diameter, fibre density and fibrinogen level between samples taken after diesel exhaust exposure and samples taken after filtered air exposure. These data show that there are no prothrombotic changes in fibrin clot structure in young, healthy individuals exposed to diesel exhaust

Identification of Personality Traits for Recruitment of Unskilled Occupations using Kansei Engineering Method

    Get PDF
Job recruitment portals become the main recruitment channel in most of the organizations nowadays because they offer many advantages to recruiters and job applicants. An outstanding recruitment system should be able to filter and recommend the best potential candidates for a job vacancy so that it can avoid hiring of inappropriate individuals or miss out the good candidates. Nevertheless, most of the existing job portals do not cover the unskilled job sectors. Matching unskilled jobs to applicants is challenging because the selection criteria can be very subjective and difficult to specify in terms of professional qualifications. In this paper, Kansei Engineering (KE) Model is applied to find the most prominent personality traits that are preferred by employers in different unskilled job categories in Malaysia. We have identified most prominent 20 Kansei words related to personality traits that are important to six main industries of unskilled workers. The six unskilled sectors involved are construction, hotel, manufacturing, restaurant, sales, and service. 60 employers from the six sectors were interviewed to rank the 50 personality traits identified. Those ranked personality traits can potentially be used for recruitment selection and filtering of unskilled job applicants

Bacteria Fauna from the House Fly, Musca domestica (L.)

The house fly, Musca domestica has long been considered a potential agent for disease transmission ever since its existence. The general truth of this assertion remains undisputed till the present day in spite of increasing awareness toward an improved sanitation and better hygiene. The habitual movement of house fly from filthy substrata such as human faeces, animal excreta, carcasses, garbage, etc. makes them ideal candidates for disease transmission such as cholera, shigellosis, salmonellosis and others when settling on food. Fly as a potential mechanical vector of pathogenic bacteria was elucidated in this study by examining flies from various breeding sites such as food courts, dumping ground, food processing areas and poultry farm in Peninsular Malaysia. The flies were baited with 10 sugar solution on a glass slide in the field. All materials used for collection of samples were sterile. Bacteria from fly sample were isolated using the normal isolation technique. Bacillus sp., Coccobacillus sp., Staphylococcus sp., Microccus sp., Streptococcus sp., Acinetobacter sp., Enterobacter sp., Proteus sp., Escherichia sp., Klebsiella sp. and yeast cells were isolated from feaces, vomitus, external surfaces and internal organs of house fly. Newly emerged house fly did not harbour any bacteria

Gorham-Stout case report: a multi-omic analysis reveals recurrent fusions as new potential drivers of the disease

BACKGROUND: Gorham-Stout disease is a rare condition characterized by vascular proliferation and the massive destruction of bone tissue. With less than 400 cases in the literature of Gorham-Stout syndrome, we performed a unique study combining whole-genome sequencing and RNA-Seq to probe the genomic features and differentially expressed pathways of a presented case, revealing new possible drivers and biomarkers of the disease. CASE PRESENTATION: We present a case report of a white 45-year-old female patient with marked bone loss of the left humerus associated with vascular proliferation, diagnosed with Gorham-Stout disease. The analysis of whole-genome sequencing showed a dominance of large structural DNA rearrangements. Particularly, rearrangements in chromosomes seven, twelve, and twenty could contribute to the development of the disease, especially a gene fusion involving ATG101 that could affect macroautophagy. The study of RNA-sequencing data from the patient uncovered the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway as the most affected signaling cascade in the Gorham-Stout lesional tissue. Furthermore, M2 macrophage infiltration was detected using immunohistochemical staining and confirmed by deconvolution of the RNA-seq expression data. CONCLUSIONS: The way that DNA and RNA aberrations lead to Gorham-Stout disease is poorly understood due to the limited number of studies focusing on this rare disease. Our study provides the first glimpse into this facet of the disease, exposing new possible therapeutic targets and facilitating the clinicopathological diagnosis of Gorham-Stout disease. Multi-omic analysis of Esophageal Adenocarcinoma uncovers candidate therapeutic targets and cancer-selective post-transcriptional regulation

Background: Efforts to address the poor prognosis associated with esophagealadenocarcinoma (EAC) have been hampered by a lack of biomarkers to identify early disease and therapeutic targets. Despite extensive efforts to understand the somatic mutations associated with EAC over the past decade, a gap remains in understanding how the atlas of genomic aberrations in this cancer impacts the proteome and which somatic variants are of importance for the disease phenotype. Methods: We performed a quantitative proteomic analysis of 23 EACs and matched adjacent normal esophageal and gastric tissues. We explored the correlation of transcript and protein abundance using tissue-matched RNA-seq and proteomic data from 7 patients and further integrated these data with a cohort of EAC RNA-seq data (n=264 patients), EAC whole-genome sequencing (n=454 patients) and external published datasets.Central findings: We quantified protein expression from 5879 genes in EAC and patient-matched normal tissues. Several biomarker candidates with EAC-selective expression were identified including the transmembrane protein GPA33. We further verified the EAC-enriched expression of GPA33 in an external cohort of 115 patients and confirm this as an attractive diagnostic and therapeutic target. To further extend the insights gained from our proteomic data, an integrated analysis of protein and RNA expression in EAC and normal tissues revealed several genes with poorly correlated Protein and RNA abundance, suggesting post-transcriptional regulation of protein expression. These outlier genes including SLC25A30, TAOK2, and AGMAT, only rarely demonstrated somatic mutation suggesting post-transcriptional drivers for this EAC-specific phenotype. AGMAT was demonstrated to be over-expressed at the protein level in EAC compared to adjacent normal tissues with an EAC-selective, post-transcriptional mechanism of regulation of protein abundance proposed. Conclusions: By quantitative proteomic analysis we have identified GPA33 as an EAC-selective biomarker. Integrated analysis of proteome, transcriptome, and genome in EAC hasJournal Pre-proof Running Title: Multi-omic analysis of Esophageal Adenocarcinoma uncovers candidate therapeutic targets and cancer-selective post-transcriptional regulation revealed several genes with tumor-selective, post-transcriptional regulation of protein expression which may be an exploitable vulnerabilit
