    An Energy Conscious Topology Augmentation Methodology for On-Chip Interconnection Networks

    On-chip communication, modular, scalable packet-switched micro-network of interconnects, generally known as Network-on-Chip (NoC) architecture can be designed as regular or application-specific (irregular) network topologies. Application specific custom network topologies are advantageous in terms of optimized design according to given performance metrics and regular network topologies are advantageous in terms of its modularity, lower design time and efforts required and thus are suitable for mass production. So to offer the advantages of both the topologies this paper proposes a methodology to augment the regular topology according to the application characteristics. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed methodology can reduce dynamic communication energy consumption by on average of 32.79% and reduction in average per flit latency by on average of 16.22% over regular 2D NoC architecture

    A Rare Case Report of Fatal Fulminant Hepatic Failure in a Child due to Mixed vivax and falciparum Infection

    Malaria remains an overwhelming problem in the tropical developing countries, with 300 to 500 million new cases and about a million deaths per year (Mishra et al., 2003). Malaria is a potentially life-threatening disease in the tropics. Jaundice is one of the severe manifestations of falciparum malaria. Its incidence (Mishra et al., 2003). varies between 10 and 45% in different reports and is seen more in adults than in children. Jaundice may vary from mild to very severe. However, clinical signs of hepatic encephalopathy (such as liver flaps) are never seen unless there is presence of concomitant viral hepatitis (WHO, 2000). Our case is a 6-year-old female child presented with fever, jaundice, and anasarca. Peripheral smear showed trophozoites and schizonts of Plasmodium (P.) vivax and trophozoites and gametocytes of P. falciparum. Viral markers for hepatitis were negative. She developed fulminant hepatic failure and expired after 26 hours of admission

    SVM-Based Biometric Authentication Using Intra-Body Propagation Signals

    To use intra-body propagation signals for biometric authentication have been proposed. The intra-body propagation signals are hid in human bodies; therefore, they have tolerability to circumvention using artifacts. Additionally, utilizing the signals in the body enables liveness detection with no additional scheme. The problem is, however, verification performance using the intra-body propagation signal is not so high. In this paper, in order to improve the performance we propose to use user-specific frequency bands for all users in verification. The verification performance is improved to 70 %. Furthermore, we introduce the support vector machine (SVM) into the verification process. It is confirmed that verification rate of about 86 % is achieved

    An X-ray investigation of Hickson 62

    We studied the X-ray properties of the Hickson Compact Group HCG62, in order to determine the properties and dynamic and evolutionary state of its hot gaseous halo. Our analysis reveals that the X-ray diffuse halo has an extremely complex morphological, thermal and chemical structure. Two deep cavities, due to the presence of the AGN hosted by the central galaxy NGC 4778, are clearly visible in the group X-ray halo. The cavities appear to be surrounded by ridges of cool gas. The group shows a cool core associated with the dominant galaxy. In the outer regions the temperature structure is quite regular, while the metal abundance shows a more patchy distribution, with large Si/O and Si/Fe ratios.Comment: Published in the Proceedings of the "I Workshop of Astronomy and Astrophysics for Students", Eds.     ASSESSING PATIENT SATISFACTION FOR INVESTIGATIVE SERVICES AT PUBLIC HOSPITALS TO IMPROVE QUALITY OF SERVICES

    ABSTRACT Objective: The main objective of the paper is to assess the satisfaction level of investigative patients at public health facilities of Madhya Pradesh, a State of India. Methods: Data were collected from investigative patients through structured questionnaires at public health facilities in the sampled eight districts of Madhya Pradesh. Settings: Data were collected from District Hospitals, Civil Hospitals and Community Health Centers of the eight selected districts of Madhya Pradesh. esults: A total of 280 investigative patients were included in the study to know their perceptions about the services at the public health facilities. It was found that most of the respondents belong to rural areas (53.9%) and majority (82.1%) lies within the age group of 16-50. 56.4% were male having low level of literacy. 90% of the respondents who availed ultrasonography services and nearly 70% of the investigative patients who have utilized ECG facility found the problem of overcrowding but found the test facility good. However, 67.3% and 76% of the patients reported that the test facility was good who availed the services of laboratory and X-Ray. More than 80% of the total investigative patients reported the behavior of the technicians as good. Nearly 50% of the respondents who availed the services of laboratory and X-ray, reported that privacy and confidentiality was good whereas rest found it satisfactory

    Awareness of triggers of headache in migraine patients – a study from a tertiary centre from central india

    Background:A lot of discrepancies in the number of migraine triggers have been observed in numerous studies. Migraine patients do not recognize easily their headache triggers in clinical practice. Focusing the patient attention on migraine attack triggers is important for management of migraine. Awareness of migraine triggers has not been previously studied in India. Therefore, we planned to study the awareness of triggers of headache among migraine patients from central India.Materials and methods:We recruited 180 migraine patients to evaluate the awareness about their headache triggers. Patients were asked to perform two tasks. Task 1 was to report their migraine trigger spontaneously in 2 minutes. Subsequently, Task 2 was to identify common/uncommon known triggers from given lists. Awareness of triggers among population was estimated by difference of distribution of self reported versus identified common/uncommon triggers.Results:The average number of self reported triggers among all patients was found to be 2.21±1.80. Noise (74.4%), Sunlight (70.6%), Smoking (70.0%), Fasting (67.2%) were the most prevalent trigger factors. Difference of distribution between Task 1 and Task 2 was calculated, which showed (200% difference in self reported versus common triggers) and (83.3% difference in self reported versus uncommon triggers).Conclusion:Migraine patients have poor awareness of their headache triggers and hardly reports triggers unless asked specifically.     User verification based on the support vector machine using intra-body propagation signals

    Use of intra-body propagation signals has been proposed for biometric authentication. However, verification performance of the conventional method is low. To overcome this limitation, this study introduces the support vector machine (SVM) into the verification process, which improves the verification rate to approximately 83%. However, the correct acceptance rate of genuine users using only SVM is 49%, which is too low for practical applications. Thus, we introduce the concept of one versus one (1vs1) SVM. Each 1vs1 SVM distinguishes a genuine (authorised) user from another (unauthorised) user. Verification is achieved on the basis of a majority rule using plural 1vs1 SVMs related to a genuine user. The correct acceptance rate is greatly improved to 84% while maintaining equivalent verification performance. As a result, it is further confirmed that an intra-body propagation signal is a potential new biometric trait
