This paper continues the use of the spatial void hypothesis methodology to analyze the location of alternative financial service providers, such as check cashing outlets and pawn shops, in New Castle County, Delaware, and Atlantic, Mercer, Monmouth, and Passaic counties in New Jersey. Also explores whether these providers are disproportionately serving minority and low-income areas.

Properties of three graphite/toughened resin composites

Results are presented from an experimental evaluation of IM7/977-2, IM7/F655, and T800/F3900. Data presented include ply-level (unidirectional laminate) strength and moduli, unnotched and notched (open hole) tension and compression properties of quasi-isotropic laminates, and compression-after-impact strengths. These data are compared with properties of other toughened (IM7/8551-7 and IM6/18081) and brittle (T300/5208) graphite-epoxy materials. The IM7/977-2, IM7/F655, and T800/F3900 materials are substantially stronger and more damage tolerant than widely used first generation composite materials such as T300/5208. The T800/F3900 outperforms IM7/977-2 and IM7/F655 materials in tolerance to projectile impacts. Compression-after-impact strengths were found to be dependent on impactor velocity for a given impact energy. The open hole compression properties of all three materials are degraded by the combination of heat and moisture

Subprime lending over time: the role of race

Analyzes the racial gap in subprime mortgages over time. The study estimates a portion of the gap that cannot be attributed to such characteristics as income, credit score, loan amount, degree of documentation, denial rate, residence in a minority tract, and debt-to-income ratio. Distance Learning on the Internet: A Situational Analysis

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) recently began using WebCT as an interface tool to link the university\u27s graduate aviation courses to its worldwide distance education student body. This report provides a qualitative SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) of the pilot-study course used by the university to determine the effectiveness of the new inter The purpose of this situational analysis, written by the instructor of the pilot-study course, is to provide feedback to educators and administrators interested in learning more about distance learning using the Internet as the link between an educational inst on and its students. Distance learning has emerged as the brightest star on the horizon of higher education innovation over the last decade and using the Internet to deliver materials to learners is a trend that is not likely to go away. The author concludes that distance learning on the Internet has many advantages over face-to-face education but that there are a number of threats that must be addressed to protect the integrity of the institution implementing this type of degree program

A study of some life testing distributions

This dissertation is presented in publication form and consists of three articles. The first article considers a new life-testing distribution which has the property of possessing a failure rate function which can be U-shaped or exponentially increasing depending on the value of the shape parameter. In addition, this article considers generalized least squares type estimators for location-scale distributions, then uses these estimators in the analysis of the exponential-power distribution. Tables are provided for which inferences on the location and scale parameters and on the reliability can be obtained. The second article gives relationships between a goodness-of-fit statistic based on a correlation coefficient and some well known and powerful goodness-of-fit statistics. Tables of critical values are given for complete and censored samples when the hypothesis to be tested is completely specified or when the composite hypothesis of normality or exponentiality is to be tested. The third article gives some results on simple, closed form estimators for the Weibull or extreme-value distribution. Tables of critical values are also provided here for making inferences on the location parameter and on reliability --Abstract, page iii
