Results of empirical research of cross-border cooperation of enterprises in the regions of Belarus bordering to UE are discussed. Research was carried out in 2009-2011. The purpose of research was to reveal the character, the forms and the scale of entrepreneurship cross-border cooperation from the participants’ point of view. The basic method of research included interviewing of selected respondents according to standardized schemes developed for three groups of respondents: institutional structures, households, heads or managers of small and medium enterprises. As a result of research a hypothesis was raised about an opportunity of stimulation of cross-border cooperation through the "economic washing out of the border". Both potential contribution to regional development and the probable threats to its stability were taken in to account in the suggestions preparation process

This paper is an output of a research project supported by INTAS (04-79-6991) which investigates the extent, nature and forms of cross-border cooperation in border regions in Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova with EU new members and upcoming accession states, in order to assess its contribution to entrepreneurship, economic and social transformation. Requirements for successful co-operation, especially the role of trust and learning, will be assessed in relation to other factors influencing the success of these relationships. The paper summarises the results of the literature review undertaken in order to gain a deeper understanding of what constitutes cross-border cooperation and the role trust and learning play herein (chapter 2), the effects of EU enlargement on cross-border co-operation (chapter 3), regional entrepreneur-ship developments in the three countries surveyed after EU enlargement (chapter 4) and policy efforts to support cross-border co-operation (chapter 5)

Mapping of the Influenza-A Hemagglutinin Serotypes Evolution by the ISSCOR Method

Analyses and visualizations by the ISSCOR method of influenza virus hemagglutinin genes of different A-subtypes revealed some rather striking temporal relationships between groups of individual gene subsets. Based on these findings we consider application of the ISSCOR-PCA method for analyses of large sets of homologous genes to be a worthwhile addition to a toolbox of genomics - allowing for a rapid diagnostics of trends, and ultimately even aiding an early warning of newly emerging epidemiological threats.Comment: 26 pages with figures (Figs. 1-4 in the main text, and Figs. The Saccharomyces cerevisiae wine yeast strains 71B-1122 and K1-V1116 were used to derive strains that could tolerate and produce higher ethanol yields. Respiratory-deficient mutants resistant to 500 μg/mL lycorine were isolated. Two mutants, 71B-1122 YEBr L3 and K1-V1116 YEBr L4, were shown to achieve about 10% and 18% improvement in their glucose-to-ethanol conversion efficiency compared to their respective parent strains. The K1-V1116 YEBr L4 in particular can tolerate an ethanol yield of 18.8 ± 0.8% at 3.5 weeks of fermentation and continued to consume most of the sugar until less than 1% glucose was left
