    Get PDF

Thermodynamics in variable speed of light theories

The perfect fluid in the context of a covariant variable speed of light theory proposed by J. Magueijo is studied. On the one hand the modified first law of thermodynamics together with a recipe to obtain equations of state are obtained. On the other hand the Newtonian limit is performed to obtain the nonrelativistic hydrostatic equilibrium equation for the theory. The results obtained are used to determine the time variation of the radius of Mercury induced by the variability of the speed of light (cc), and the scalar contribution to the luminosity of white dwarfs. Using a bound for the change of that radius and combining it with an upper limit for the variation of the fine structure constant, a bound on the time variation of cc is set. An independent bound is obtained from luminosity estimates for Stein 2015B.Comment: V2 (published version): 20 pages, 0 figures. Title shortened, a section on the luminosity of white dwarfs has been added, and small corrections have been mad

    Ultra Wideband Indoor Navigation System

    Get PDF
Typical indoor environments contain multiple walls and obstacles consisting of different materials. As a result, current narrowband radio frequency (RF) indoor navigation systems cannot satisfy the challenging demands for most indoor applications. The RF ultra wideband (UWB) system is a promising technology for indoor localisation owing to its high bandwidth that permits mitigation of the multipath identification problem. This work proposes a novel UWB navigation system that permits accurate mobile robot (MR) navigation in indoor environments. The navigation system is composed of two sub-systems: the localisation system and the MR control system. The main contributions of this work are focused on estimation algorithm for localisation, digital implementation of transmitter and receiver and integration of both sub-systems that enable autonomous robot navigation. For sub-systems performance evaluation, statics and dynamics experiments were carried out which demonstrated that the proposed system reached an accuracy that outperforms traditional sensors technologies used in robot navigation, such as odometer and sonar.Fil: Segura M.. Wheat fusarium head blight 2001 epidemic in the southern Argentinian pampas

Wheat Head Blight or Scab is frequently a destructive fungal disease caused by several Fusarium species but F. graminearum Schwabe [teleomorph Gibberella zeae (Schwein) Petch; synonym = G. saubinetii (Mont.) Sacc.] is the principal causal agent. The disease is common in humid and semi-humid wheat (Triticum spp.) cropping areas around the world. Epidemics of Fusarium head blight (FHB) seem to be increasing globally during the last two decades. In Argentina and some other countries of South America, damages have been very significant. In the USA, Canada and other wheat cropping areas, several harvests have been affected by numerous epidemics.Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias y Forestale

Alternaria infectoria species-group associated with black point of wheat in Argentina

    Get PDF
Regional surveys are being conducted in Argentina to assess the presence of wheat (Triticum aestivum) pathogens on grains across the main cropping area. During 2001 and 2002, grain samples with a dark brown or blackish discoloration around the embryo end, known as black point, were observed on several cultivars across the wheat region of Buenos Aires Province.Centro de Investigaciones de Fitopatologí
