The Law Commission's 1988 Report on Accident Compensation

    Get PDF
As economic restructuring was changing many state functions, the New Zealand Law Commission under the Presidency of Sir Owen Woodhouse undertook its own review of ACC, vigorously reaffirming the Woodhouse principles in its 1988 Report, while proposing further extensions of the scheme. This paper, written by a member of the Commission, summarises the Report’s major recommendations, including a new strategy for accident prevention, extension of the scheme to include illness, and a generally sceptical approach to incentive-based premiums for employers

Utopian Visions in Radical Communities: Burning Man

    Get PDF
This research paper is a collection of utopian visions gathered from the Radical Community of Burning Man. The goal of this research is to collect a sample of utopian visions from this community, organize them, and share them in a way that can be effectively used in a professional and/or activist environment. Research was done in the fall of 2013 at the Burning Man Festival, in 2014 at a Regional Burning Man Event: Lakes of Fire, and with the Burner Community around these times. The primary research question is: What are utopian visions of the \u27Burning Man\u27 radical community? The field question exclusively used to collect all participant responses was: What is something you\u27d like to see happening in the future in an Ideal or Utopian Future? Data was collected from over 300 participant responses. The reason for this research is to provide a view into the radical visions of utopia, using Burning Man as a specific case study. This research provides a basis for both further similar research projects and a foundation for efforts to create a more ideal or utopian society thorough social activism and community design projects. Limitations are presented, and conceptual frameworks are provided to assist in analysis of the collected data. The cherished component of this research project is the responses from the members of the Burning Man Community, and I am grateful for their time, for their love, and for sharing their visions of utopia

The Jack Keith Murray collection consists of correspondence, pocket appointment diaries, scientific and technical papers, notes, transcripts of lectures, photographs and other material principally relating to Murray's activities in Papua New Guinea. Sir Jack Keith Murray was born in 1889 in Brighton, Victoria. He was appointed principal of the Queensland State Agricultural College (Gatton) in 1923 and became a professor of Agriculture at the University of Queensland in 1929. He served as a colonel in the army in World War II and was commanding officer of the 25th (Darling Downs) Battalion in 1940. In September 1945 he was appointed Administrator of the Australian territories of Papua and New Guinea, after the military administration left. He retired from that position in 1952. He was appointed to the University of Queensland Senate in 1953 and died in 1980

Leadership in the British civil service: an interpretation

    Get PDF
This article is essentially a polemic. The argument is that when politicians and officials now talk of ‘leadership’ in the British civil service they do not use that word in the way in which it was previously used. In the past leading civil servants, acting in partnership with ministers and within constitutional constraints, exercised leadership in the sense of setting example, inspiring confidence and encouraging loyalty. The loosening of traditional constitutional patterns, the marginalization of senior officials in the policy process and the emergence of business methods as the preferred model for public administration have led to a political and administrative environment in which leadership in the British civil service is now about encouraging patterns of behaviour which fit in with these changes. Leadership skills are now about ‘delivery’; they are not about motivation. It is time for politicians, officials and scholars to be open about this

Structure of excited vortices with higher angular momentum in Bose-Einstein condensates

The structure of vortices in Bose-Einstein condensed atomic gases is studied taking into account many-body correlation effects. It is shown that for excited vortices the particle density in the vortex core increases as the angular momentum of the system increases. The core density can increase by several times with only a few percent change in the angular momentum. This result provides an explanation for the observations in which the measured angular momentum is higher than the estimation based on counting the number of vortices, and the visibility of the vortex cores is simultaneously reduced. The calculated density profiles for the excited vortices are in good agreement with experimental measurements.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figur

Factors Associated with The Occurrence of Anemia in Pregnant Women At Kaubele Health Center, Biboki Moenleu District, North-Central Timor Regency

    Get PDF
