    Financial Performance of PSEs Post-disinvestment

    India being a developing economy has adopted the concept of mixed economy wherein both the private and public sector were allowed to industrialize the country except few restricted sectors. PSEs controlled by the government played an instrumental role in servicing the country in infrastructure and public services. Since there were lots of political intervention because of which the PSEs derailed from the profit making objective and turned to drainage of wealth which were once referred to be temples of modern India. The PSEs were also suddenly exposed to Global competition which they were not used for operating under protected environment. The level playing field and competition affected the financial performances of PSEs. The paper elucidates the various financial ratios over a period of 10 years and analyzed the performance of the PSEs resurrecting focusing on other factors of their sustainability

    The Band Gap in Silicon Nanocrystallites

    The gap in semiconductor nanocrystallites has been extensively studied both theoretically and experimentally over the last two decades. We have compared a recent ``state-of-the-art'' theoretical calculation with a recent ``state-of-the-art'' experimental observation of the gap in Si nanocrystallite. We find that the two are in substantial disagreement, with the disagreement being more pronounced at smaller sizes. Theoretical calculations appear to over-estimate the gap. Recognizing that the experimental observations are for a distribution of crystallite sizes, we proffer a phenomenological model to reconcile the theory with the experiment. We suggest that similar considerations must dictate comparisons between the theory and experiment vis-a-vis other properties such as radiative rate, decay constant, absorption coefficient, etc.Comment: 5 pages, latex, 2 figures.     The implementation of interconnect gain from aileron to rudder surface on the majority of the aircraftis to decrease sideslip which is generated because of adverse yaw with the movement of control stick in lateral axis and also enhances the turning rate performance.The Aileron to Rudder Interconnect (ARI)involves significant part to decouple the Dutch roll oscillations from roll rate response to aileron command. ARI is feed-forward gain whichis susceptible to aircraft system uncertainty. Incorrect ARI gain can lead to side slip buildup which can cause aircraft to depart in case of fault scenarios. Four systematic ARI design methods are proposed. One of the proposed methods which use the norm of ARI transfer function at roll damping frequency is suitable for online reconfiguration of control law.     When pathology defies expectations: a surprising diagnosis of prostatic leiomyosarcoma

    Prostatic leiomyosarcoma is an exceedingly rare malignant tumour arising from smooth muscle cells in the prostate gland. It ranks quite low down on the possible differentials of bladder outlet obstruction. We present a case of a 38-year-old male who initially presented with acute urinary retention and was subsequently diagnosed with prostatic leiomyosarcoma. Following histopathological confirmation, metastatic work-up was performed and patient planned for radiation and surgical cure. Patient on follow-up is well and has resumed normal daily work. This case report aims to increase awareness of this rare malignancy, discuss the diagnostic challenges faced with a highly common clinical spectrum at the onset, present the treatment strategies employed, and discuss the patient's clinical outcomes. We emphasise the importance of reporting rare cases like this to contribute to the existing literature and enhance the understanding of prostatic leiomyosarcoma

    Covalent–Organic Framework-Based Materials in Theranostic Applications: Insights into Their Advantages and Challenges

    Nanomedicine has been essential in bioimaging and cancer therapy in recent years. Nanoscale covalent–organic frameworks (COFs) have been growing as an adequate classification of biomedical nanomaterials with practical application prospects because of their increased porosity, functionality, and biocompatibility. The high sponginess of COFs enables the incorporation of distinct imaging and therapeutic mechanisms with a better loading efficiency. Nevertheless, preliminary biocompatibility limits their possibility for clinical translation. Thus, cutting-edge nanomaterials with high biocompatibility and improved therapeutic efficiency are highly expected to fast-track the clinical translation of nanomedicines. The inherent effects of nanoscale COFs, such as proper size, modular pore geometry and porosity, and specific postsynthetic transformation through simple organic changes, make them particularly appealing for prospective nanomedicines. The organic building blocks of COFs may also be postmodified for particular binding to biomarkers. The exceptional features of COFs cause them to be an encouraging nanocarrier for bioimaging and therapeutic applications. In this review, we have systematically discussed the advances of COFs in the field of theranostics by providing essential features of COFs along with their synthetic methods. Further, the applications of COFs in the field of theranostics (such as drug delivery systems, photothermal, and photodynamic therapy) are discussed in detail with the help of available literature to date. Furthermore, the advantages of COFs over other materials for therapeutics and drug delivery are discussed. Finally, the review concludes with potential future COF applications in the theranostic field

    A study of neonatal and maternal outcomes of asthma during pregnancy

    Background: Asthma is a common problem all around the world with variable prevalence ranging from 1%–18% in different age and geographical distribution. There are proximately 300 million affected individuals. There are growing prevalence and morbidity, due to asthma associated with pregnancy. The course of asthma in pregnancy is unpredictable.Methods: 2400 consecutive pregnant women attending the antenatal clinic of S.P. Medical College and AG of Hospitals, Bikaner, were screened using asthma questionnaire translated in Hindi based on the questionnaire developed for International Union against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease. 52 patients diagnosed as asthma were subjected for PFT and classified according to clinical severity as per GINA guidelines, 2006. All subjects were followed till delivery and postpartum charts reviewed to see neonate and maternal outcome.Results: The prevalence of asthma during pregnancy was 2.1%, among them, 25 (48.1%) were categorized as having intermittent asthma, 6 (11.5%) with mild persistent asthma, 10 (19.2%) with moderate persistent asthma and 11 (21.2%) having severe persistent asthma. During the course of pregnancy, 36% had no change in the symptomatology, while (32.5%) experienced improvement and (32.5%) of worsening of asthma. 22 (42.31%) women were newly diagnosed during our study. There was no significant adverse maternal and fetal outcome in asthmatic group compared to control.Conclusions: Asthma is an under diagnosed and under treated disorder, especially during pregnancy and overall morbidity of asthma among women & neonates does not change during pregnancy.
