    Decomposing journey time variance on urban rail transit systems

    In this thesis, automated fare collection (AFC) data are used to analyse and quantify transit journey time service quality on the London Underground metro system. The thesis comprises of three main research areas. The first part focuses on characterising passenger journey time variance through the generation of empirical probability distributions of journey times under regular and incident-affected operating conditions. The distributions are parametrically defined, and practical passenger-oriented performance metrics are proposed based on the moments of the distributions. The second area of research involves decomposing total passenger journey times recorded by the AFC data into sub-components that distinguish between the walking and in-vehicle phases of a passenger journey. To achieve this, a Bayesian assignment algorithm is proposed to allocate individual passengers to individual trains. Total journey times are then decomposed into the constituent components of access, on-train, and egress times. In the third area of research, the degree to which different service supply and demand factors influence journey times is analysed. Semiparametric regression methods are applied to quantify the effect of physical station and route characteristics, operational service supply factors, and passenger demand levels for each journey time component. To quantify the effect of individual passenger characteristics on journey times, passenger-level heterogeneity within each journey time component is analysed. As an extension to the access time model, the influence of train headways on passenger wait times at the origin station is also derived. The main outputs of the thesis are the quantification of journey time performance, and the identification of the key service supply and demand factors that impact journey times. The results can be directly applied by operators to guide where potential interventions should be made in order to improve the reliability of journey times for urban rail transit networks.Open Acces

    Indian Pediatric Oncology Group (InPOG) – Collaborative research in India comes of age

    AbstractTreatment of children with cancer on clinical trials, often in the context of national and international co-operative groups, is one of the cornerstones of pediatric oncology treatment and has been shown to improve outcomes of children with cancer. While enrolling children with cancer in prospective multi-centre trials has become the norm in high-income countries, it has remained an exception in low and middle-income countries until recently. In this article, we briefly review the global landscape of pediatric oncology co-operative groups and then discuss the Indian scenario including more recent developments of the formation and galvanization of the Indian Pediatric Oncology Group (InPOG). The mission of InPOG is to improve the outcomes of children with cancer in India by collaborative research. A roadmap for the development and conduct of an InPOG study has been created and 21 disease-specific subcommittees have been formed. Multi-centre studies on Hodgkin lymphoma and acute lymphoblastic leukemia are currently recruiting and several others are under development

Researcher has worked upon responses gathered from young adults, their perceptions and various options available to them. Researchers collected responses from 120 college going young adults from Pune. The respondents were from the age category of 15 to 25 years of age. The data was collected using google forms and it was analysed using Google’s analytical tools. It was found that most of the student services and these services proved to be one of the biggest sources of entertainment for these students. Traditional media is losing its lustre because of various advantages of streaming services. Students admitted that their schedule is affected because of time spent on video streaming services. Today the top three video streaming platforms are YouTube, Netflix and Hotstar

    Comparison of the effect of different medicaments on surface reproduction of two commercially available Polyvinyl Siloxane impression materials: an Invitro Study

    Objective:To determine the effect of different retraction cord medicaments on surface detail reproduction of polyvinyl siloxane impression materials and compare this effect on any two brands of commercially available polyvinyl siloxane impression materials. Material and methods: Four stainless steel dies were made according to ADA specification no.19. Three dies were treated with aluminium chloride (5%), ferric sulphate (13.3%) and epinephrine (0.1%) while the fourth one was left untreated to serve as control. Two impression materials (Dentsply and 3M ESPE) were used. Results: All the three medicaments adversely affected the surface detail reproduction of both the brands of the polyvinyl siloxane impression materials. These effects were statistically significant as compared to untreated control. The impressions of 3M ESPE brand have shown better surface detail reproduction as compared to Dentsply impression material. Conclusion: Surface detail reproduction of the polyvinyl siloxane impression materials is adversely affected by the retraction cord medicaments. The presence of moisture or any traces of the medicaments should be removed from the tooth surface to provide a dry field for the correct reproduction of the surface detail of these material
