Planning and evaluation parameters for offshore complexes
Issues are presented for consideration in the planning and design of offshore artificial complexes. The construction of such complexes, their social, economic, and ecological impacts, and the legal-political-institutional environments within which their development could occur, are discussed. Planning, design, and construction of near-shore complexes located off the Mid-Atlantic coast of the United States is emphasized
What Constitutes An Effective Human Resources Curriculum?
What constitutes an effective university curriculum in human resources management? In an effort to answer this question, the authors reviewed the research literature on human resources curricula, comparing, contrasting and synthesizing the recommendations that have been offered in recent studies. Although a number of scholars have addressed this issue from a variety of perspectives and offer many noteworthy points for consideration, the review of the research literature indicates that a definitive answer to the question of curriculum content has not yet been found. The authors summarize the recent research, categorizing studies in terms of type pf research (empirical versus conceptual), nature of subjects in empirical studies (executives, HR practitioners, recent graduates of HR program), gratitude versus undergraduate program focus, and focus of the course of study (professional versus educational) in order to identify the current state of knowledge and fruitful avenues for future research. They provide a useful source of information for those charged with creating and maintaining quality human resources education programs, and for those who intend to research the topic further
Built to Play
Built to Play is an interactive art exhibition featuring four participatory installations. Each installation transforms non-playful objects and activities into handmade porcelain replicas used for exciting gallery made games. Focusing on the carry over from child’s play to adult play the exhibition emphasizes the importance of play in our adult lives. As gallery visitors risk breaking handmade ceramic objects for a moment of fun and a chance to win art as a prize, their interaction completes the exhibition
Equilibrium calculations via the Benedict-Webb-Rubin equation of state
The performance of various vapor-liquid equilibrium calculations requires phase equilibrium data. One of the most versatile sources of this data is an equation of state, re-lating the pressure, temperature, and phase compositions it a single expression. The equation under study herewith is the eight constant Benedict-Webb-Rubin Equation of State.
This paper provides a computer program which evaluates the following types of phase equilibria: bubble-points, dew-points, and two phase flash calculations. Also included in this paper is the theoretical backround of the Benedict-Webb-Rubin Equation of State, calculational techniques, and the data used in the program

The energy dilemma and its impact on air transportation
The dimensions of the energy situation are discussed in relation to air travel. Energy conservation, fuel consumption, and combustion efficiency are examined, as well as the proposal for subsonic aircraft using hydrogen fuel
General aviation and community development
The summer program is summarized. The reports presented concern (1) general aviation components, (2) general aviation environment, (3) community perspective, and (4) transportation and general aviation in Virginia

Urban transportation: Perspectives on mobility and choice
A study of urban transportation systems are presented characterized by intensive scrutiny of many ideas, philosophies, and academic perspectives. This report is intended to communicate some dimensions of the urban transportation problem to the general public
Pay and Rank of Female Engineers in Government Service: A Crack in the Glass Ceiling
In 1991, the United States government began efforts to address the "glass ceiling" and its effects on thefederal workforce. This article explores the nature of the glass ceiling, particularly progress made since1991 on the pay status and hierarchical placement of the almost 200,000 engineers in United States federalcivilian employment. When a glass ceiling exists, men occupy a disproportionately high percentage of thehigher ranks in a career field, while women tend to be overrepresented in its lower ranks. Similarly, onaverage men earn higher pay than women in the same organizational rank. These were exactly theconditions of the federal engineering field in 1991, the year of the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1991that addressed the glass ceiling, among other topics. In 1991, as a result of the existence of the glass ceiling, women engineers earned only about 81% of the salaries and wages of their male counterparts. Through anexploration of federal employment databases, this article suggests that the condition of women engineers ingovernment service has improved in the years since 1991""more female engineers are on the governmentrolls, they make up a much larger proportion of senior engineering management, and their compensation ismuch closer to parity with men""but they are not yet equal with males on any of these dimensions
