On the number of unlabeled vertices in edge-friendly labelings of graphs
Let be a graph with vertex set and edge set , and be a
0-1 labeling of so that the absolute difference in the number of edges
labeled 1 and 0 is no more than one. Call such a labeling
\emph{edge-friendly}. We say an edge-friendly labeling induces a \emph{partial
vertex labeling} if vertices which are incident to more edges labeled 1 than 0,
are labeled 1, and vertices which are incident to more edges labeled 0 than 1,
are labeled 0. Vertices that are incident to an equal number of edges of both
labels we call \emph{unlabeled}. Call a procedure on a labeled graph a
\emph{label switching algorithm} if it consists of pairwise switches of labels.
Given an edge-friendly labeling of , we show a label switching algorithm
producing an edge-friendly relabeling of such that all the vertices are
labeled. We call such a labeling \textit{opinionated}.Comment: 7 pages, accepted to Discrete Mathematics, special issue dedicated to

Organic flexible memristor with reduced operating voltage and high stability by interfacial control of conductive filament growth
This work was supported in part through the BK21 Program funded by Ministry of Education of Korea.Herein, the underlying mechanisms for the growth of conductive filaments (CFs) at a metal–polymer electrolyte interface through ion migration in organic electrochemical metallization (ECM) memristor are presented. It is observed that the free volume of voids (nanopores) in the polymer electrolyte serves as the pathways of metal‐cations whereas the interfacial topography between an active electrode and a polymer electrolyte determines the nucleation sites of the CFs. The growth kinetics of the CFs and the resultant resistive memory are found to vary with the molecular weight of the polymer electrolyte and the metal protrusions at the interface. Our direct observations show that the free volume of voids of the polymer electrolyte, varied with the molecular weight, dictates the ion transport for the growth and the disruption of the CFs. Our organic ECM‐based memristor with a hetero‐electrolyte exhibits high mechanical flexibility, low switching voltages reduced by about three times compared to those of conventional devices, and stable memory retention for longer than 104 s under repeated cycles of bending.PostprintPeer reviewe
Towards a Model of Quarks and Leptons
We propose an extra-dimension framework on the orbifold for
understanding the origin of the fermion mass and mixing hierarchies.
Introducing the flavor symmetry {\it non-Abelian}{\it Abelian})
as well as the extra gauged symmetries through the bulk, we regard the
singlet and doublet fermions in the Standard Model (SM) to be localized
at the separate 3-branes and let the extra singlet flavored fermions in
the bulk couple to the SM fermions at the 3-branes. The extra symmetries
satisfy the gravitational anomaly-free condition, playing a crucial role
in achieving the desirable fermion mass and mixing hierarchies and making the
flavored axion naturally light.
The singlet scalar fields, the flavon fields, are responsible for the
spontaneous breaking of on the two 3-branes, while the singlet
flavored fermions are integrated out to give rise to the effective Yukawa
couplings for the SM fermions, endowed with the information of breaking
in the two sectors. The flavored axion from the PQ symmetry is also proposed
for solving the strong CP problem and being a dark matter candidate in our
model.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figure
Topography-Guided Spreading and Drying of 6,13-bis(triisopropylsilylethynyl)-pentacene Solution on a Polymer Insulator for the Field-Effect Mobility Enhancement
We report on the enhancement of the field-effect mobility of solution-processed 6,13-bis(triisopropylsilylethynyl)-pentacene (TIPS-pentacene) by unidirectional topography (UT) of an inkjet-printed polymer insulator. The UT leads to anisotropic spreading and drying of the TIPS-pentacene droplet and enables to spontaneously develop the ordered structures during the solvent evaporation. The mobility of the UT-dictated TIPS-pentacene film (0.202 ± 0.012 cm2/Vs) is found to increase by more than a factor of two compared to that of the isotropic case (0.090 ± 0.032 cm2/Vs). The structural arrangement of the TIPS-pentacene molecules in relation to the mobility enhancement is described within an anisotropic wetting formalism. Our UT-based approach to the mobility enhancement is easily applicable to different classes of soluble organic field-effect transistors by adjusting the geometrical parameters such as the height, the width, and the periodicity of the UT of an inkjet-printed insulator
The prM-independent packaging of pseudotyped Japanese encephalitis virus
As noted in other flaviviruses, the envelope (E) protein of Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) interacts with a cellular receptor and mediates membrane fusion to allow viral entry into target cells, thus eliciting neutralizing antibody response. The formation of the flavivirus prM/E complex is followed by the cleavage of precursor membrane (prM) and membrane (M) protein by a cellular signalase. To test the effect of prM in JEV biology, we constucted JEV-MuLV pseudotyped viruses that express the prM/E protein or E only. The infectivity and titers of JEV pseudotyped viruses were examined in several cell lines. We also analyzed the neutralizing capacities with anti-JEV sera from JEV-immunized mice. Even though prM is crucial for multiple stages of JEV biology, the JEV-pseudotyped viruses produced with prM/E or with E only showed similar infectivity and titers in several cell lines and similar neutralizing sensitivity. These results showed that JEV-MuLV pseudotyped viruses did not require prM for production of infectious pseudotyped viruses
