    Get PDF
This document studies the Brazilian musical and cultural elements of rhythm, dance genres, and the Portuguese language used by Camargo Guarnieri in his song cycle Treze Cancoes de Amor. The purpose of this project is to inform the reader of performance practices related to Brazilian traditions specific to these songs, and to point out challenges in performance, especially for non-native Brazilian pianists. The research was based on findings of Camargo Guarnieri, such as books, dissertations, and recorded interviews and score study of the song cycle\u27s manuscript. In addition, an Interview was conducted with Maria José Carrasqueira, Brazilian pianist and former student of Guarnieri, and several discussions with non-Brazilian pianists and singers

Age and habitat quality matters: isotopic variation of two sympatric species of rodents in Neotropical Forest

Dietary studies allow us to understand important ecological patterns such as intra- and interpopulation variation and interspecific differences regarding the use of food sources. Stable isotopes have been successfully employed to detect dietary differences between species and feeding shifts within a species, as a response to age, habitat use, and resource availability. Here we investigated the stable isotope compositions of carbon and nitrogen of young and adult specimens of Euryoryzomys russatus and Sooretamys angouya and their stomach contents, in a complex mosaic of vegetation in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. Isotopes indicated a pronounced inter- and intraspecific plasticity in resource use for E. russatus and S. angouya. Plant sources were the prevalent feeding items for E. russatus, with low to intermediate consumption of arthropods. For S. angouya, plants were dominant in the stomach content, but arthropod arose as an important source. E. russatus showed more variation in isotopic signature between grids than S. angouya, suggesting that the former was more affected by habitat changes. These results allow us to better understand the ontogeny, diet and the behavioral responses to environmental variations of both species. Finally, our study contributes to reduce the lack of knowledge about sympatric species ecology and aggregates information for their conservation.Fil: Bovendorp, Ricardo Siqueira. Box H/ACA snoRNAs are preferred substrates for the trimethylguanosine synthase in the divergent unicellular eukaryote Trichomonas vaginalis.

The 2,2,7-trimethylguanosine caps of eukaryal snRNAs and snoRNA are formed by the enzyme Tgs1, which catalyzes sequential guanine-N2 methylations of m7G caps. Atypically, in the divergent unicellular eukaryote Trichomonas vaginalis, spliceosomal snRNAs lack a guanosine cap and the recombinant T. vaginalis trimethylguanosine synthase (TvTgs) produces only m2,7G in vitro. Here, we show by direct metabolic labeling that endogenous T. vaginalis RNAs contain m7G, m2,7G, and m2,2,7G caps. Immunodepletion of TvTgs from cell extracts and TvTgs add-back experiments demonstrate that TvTgs produces m2,7G and m2,2,7G caps. Expression of TvTgs in yeast tgs1D cells leads to the formation of m2,7G and m2,2,7G caps and complementation of the lethality of a tgs1D mud2D strain. Whereas TvTgs is present in the nucleus and cytosol of T. vaginalis cells, TMG-containing RNAs are localized primarily in the nucleolus. Molecular cloning of anti-TMG affinity-purified T. vaginalis RNAs identified 16 box H/ACA snoRNAs, which are implicated in guiding RNA pseudouridylation. The ensemble of new T. vaginalis H/ACA snoRNAs allowed us to predict and partially validate an extensive map of pseudouridines in T. vaginalis rRNA

Modelling citrus Huanglongbing spread as affected by alternative hosts, vector populations and roguing.

Non-technical summary: We simulated the potential impact of an orange jasmine population on the HLB epidemic in citrus orchards of Recôncavo Baiano region. Our results strongly supports the need of preemptive control actions in a fashion of regional management of HLB. The results also show that measures such as roguing or elimination of alternative hosts will not work if used disconnected from other methods.

Gas exchange and post-harvest quality of Kent mango subjected to controlled water deficit in semi-arid region.

Brazil is the seventh largest producer of mangoes in the world, and the São Francisco Valley is the main producing region, with ?Kent? as one of the main cultivars. Considering that irrigation management affects physiological events, production and fruit quality, the objective of this work was to evaluate the gas exchange in the leaves and fruit quality of ?Kent? mango subjected to controlled water deficit in the semi-arid region. The experiment was carried out in Petrolina-PE, semi-arid region of the São Francisco Valley. The experimental design used was randomized blocks, in a triple factorial scheme, with four irrigation depths (40, 60, 80 and 100% of crop evapotranspiration - ETc), three phenological stages (F1 - flowering, F2 - fruit growth, F3 - fruit maturation) and two production cycles (2018 and 2019), with four replicates. During the phenological stages, the physiological parameters of gas exchange were evaluated. After harvesting, the following parameters were evaluated: soluble solids content, titratable acidity, pH, firmness and peel color. Irrigation with a depth between 79.5 and 83.6% ETc during the evaluated stages promoted greater gas exchange in the leaves, greater firmness and acidity in the fruits. The reduction in irrigation depth in F1 and F3 reduced the soluble solids content, while in F2 the highest soluble solids content was obtained with irrigation between 68.24 and 74.5% ETc. The most suitable irrigation depth for ?Kent? mango cultivation depends on the purpose of the producer and on the phenological stage of the crop
