In addition, some suggestions are presented for the utilization of newer instruments and for possible future research and development work in this area

    Electrostatic dust transport and its consequences for the lunar ranging experiment

    Attempts made to qualitatively model the available data concerning the electrostatic transport of dust on the lunar surface are noted. Charged dust grains, held in place by adhesive forces, are shot into space at velocities of hundreds of meters per second. Larger particles, because of their greater charge, are quickly decelerated in the nearby fields, while the smaller grains travel in ballistic trajectories for hundreds of kilometers. Flux estimates indicate that there is little danger to the optical corner reflectors for the next few decades

    The McDonald Observatory lunar laser ranging project

    A summary of the activities of the McDonald lunar laser ranging station at Fort Davis for the FY 77-78 fiscal year is presented. The lunar laser experiment uses the observatory 2.7m reflecting telescope on a thrice-per-day, 21-day-per-lunation schedule. Data are recorded on magnetic tapes and sent to the University of Texas at Austin where the data is processed. After processing, the data is distributed to interested analysis centers and later to the National Space Science Data Center where it is available for routine distribution. Detailed reports are published on the McDonald operations after every fourth lunation or approximately once every 115 days. These reports contain a day-by-day documentation of the ranging activity, detailed discussions of the equipment development efforts, and an abundance of other information as is needed to document and archive this important data type

    Inpatient Group Psychotherapy: Predicting Attendance and Participation

    Inpatient group psychotherapy is one of the primary talk therapy interventions offered to patients necessitating acute psychiatric treatment. Research indicates that patients who attend and participate in group psychotherapy sessions while admitted to psychiatric hospitals have a lower rate of recidivism and are more successful in the community utilizing lower levels of psychiatric care. Unfortunately, not all patients attend group psychotherapy while admitted to a psychiatric facility and therefore do not benefit, possibly contributing to non-compliance with community-based treatment and readmissions to inpatient psychiatric institutions for stabilization and safety. This lack of participation in group psychotherapy deprives the patient the opportunity to share thoughts and feelings related to the stressors and issues leading to the psychiatric inpatient admission. It also denies the patient opportunities to engage additional supports and learn coping skills to better deal with stressors in the future to prevent additional psychiatric inpatient hospitalizations. The intention of this study was to determine whether demographic and clinical characteristics of patients admitted to private psychiatric hospitals can be used to predict attendance and participation in psychotherapy groups. The data were archival based on 150 randomly selected patients\u27 records from patients admitted to a hospital over a one year span (June 2009–May 2010). Forward step hierarchical regression and chi-square were the statistics used to analyze the data for this study. Findings indicated that patients who were diagnosed with co-morbid disorders, prescribed antipsychotic medications, or not compliant with taking prescribed psychotropic medications were more likely to not attend or not participate in psychotherapy groups offered while psychiatrically hospitalized. The following characteristics of patients were not associated with their attendance or participation in psychotherapy groups while hospitalized: age, marital status, ethnicity, gender, socio-economic status, suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, psychosis, diminished capacity, length of admission, number of readmits, history of prior admissions, Five Axis diagnosis, Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF) intake, GAF discharge, substance abuse history, anti-depressant medications, anti-anxiety medications, mood stabilizer medications, sedative medications, psycho-stimulant medications, and hypnotic medications. The results of the analysis also indicate that there is a relationship between leader credentials and patients\u27 attendance and participation in offered psychotherapy groups. However, there was no relationship between topics presented and patients\u27 attendance and participation

    Range measurements to an accuracy of 5 cm were achieved following improvements in the laser oscillator configuration and the photomultiplier system. Modifications to the laser include a redesigned pockel cell mount to eliminate stressing of the cell crystal; an improved electrically triggered spark gap for sharpening the electrical pulse; the use of a brewster plate in the cavity to eliminate pre-pulsing; improved alignment for the oscillator system; and increased cavity lifetime through thin film polarizer technology. Excellent weather conditions and the lack of appreciable equipment problems from October 6, 1975 until January 31, 1976 contributed to the highest total amount of data yet achieved in four consecutive lunations
