Noncontacting-optical-strain device
Noncontacting-strain-measuring gauge and extensometer remotely measures the mechanical displacement along the entire length of a test specimen. Measurement is accomplished by continuous scanning of a reflected light from reflective bench markings or stripes previously affixed to the specimen
Simple circuit positions film frames in projector
Individual frames on a photographic film strip in a projector are automatically positioned by a simple circuit. The circuit uses a photodiode that senses frame registry position and a relay that stops the film-advance motor to suspend the film at point of registry
High-temperature gas/liquid stress relaxometers
Two relaxometers allow testing of elastomers in various fluids. First relaxometer uses fork-like loading spacer interposed between loading lever and support ring, so that sample is stretched predetermined amount. In second relaxometer, degree of initial elongation is set by means of adjustable collar, which, when locked in place on piston rod, enables sample to be stretched predetermined length
Strain gauge sensitivity improved by using a composite beam
Composite beam connected to strain gauge and mounted on test specimen is capable of amplifying small strains by factor of 10. Tests indicate that resulting output can be 10 times greater than standard method
Means and method of measuring viscoelastic strain Patent
Photographic method for measuring viscoelastic strain in solid propellants and other material
Laser Diode Induced Lighting Modules
Laser diodes have the potential of becoming the light engines of future lighting technology since they have negligible efficiency droop factor, unlike light emitting diodes. This study demonstrates the possibility of laser diodes coupled to phosphor targets being used as a solid state lighting system with high power applications. It was revealed that white light emitting modules with efficiency of up to 217 lumens per watt based on laser diodes can currently be made and upon further development of laser diode technology and relevant phosphor materials there is room for further improvements. The report also demonstrates the ability of this technology to produce a tailored emission spectrum for a given specific requirement. Two test lamp prototypes were made using laser diodes and phosphor targets and their emission characteristics were investigatedBrunel University London & EPSRC grant No. EP/K504208/
Miniature stress transducer Patent
Miniature solid state, direction sensitive, stress transducer design with bonded semiconductive piezoresistive element for sensing residual stresse
Spectral properties of the 2D Holstein t-J model
Employing the Lanczos algorithm in combination with a kernel polynomial
moment expansion (KPM) and the maximum entropy method (MEM), we show a way of
calculating charge and spin excitations in the Holstein t-J model, including
the full quantum nature of phonons. To analyze polaron band formation we
evaluate the hole spectral function for a wide range of electron-phonon
coupling strengths. For the first time, we present results for the optical
conductivity of the 2D Holstein t-J model.Comment: 2 pages, Latex. Submitted to Physica C, Proc. Int. Conf. on M2HTSC
Myocardium wall thickness transducer and measuring method
A miniature transducer for measuring changes of thickness of the myocardium is described. The device is easily implantable without traumatizing the subject, without affecting the normal muscle behavior, and is removable and implantable at a different muscle location. Operating features of the device are described
