Made available in DSpace on 2011-04-09T12:14:29Z (GMT). Low Temperature Properties Of Winterized Methyl Babassu Biodiesel

    No full text
In this work, differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray diffraction techniques were employed to evaluate the influence of the winterization process on the low temperature properties of methyl babassu biodiesel. The results have shown that the crystallization onset temperature for the non-winterized biodiesel is around 266.4 K (-6.6 C) which is reduced to 263.6 K (-9.4 C) for the liquid fraction of winterized biodiesel. The 14 % reduction in the amount of saturated fatty acid methyl esters is probably responsible for the improvement of low temperature properties of winterized methyl babassu biodiesel. © 2013 Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, Hungary.1151635640Srivastava, A., Prasad, R., Triglycerides-based diesel fuels (2000) Renew Sustain Energy., 4, pp. 111-113. , 1:CAS:528:DC%2BD3cXisVCks7o%3D 10.1016/S1364-0321(99)00013-1Knothe, G., Krahl, J., Van Gerpen, J., (2005) The Biodiesel Handbook, , AOCS Press Champaign 10.1201/9781439822357Politi, J.R.S., Matos, P.R.R., Sales, M.J.A., Comparative study of the oxidative and thermal stability of vegetable oils to be used as lubricant bases (2013) J Therm Anal Calorim., 111, pp. 1437-1442. , 1:CAS:528:DC%2BC3sXmslertg%3D%3D 10.1007/s10973-012-2529-6Zhou, W.W., Li, Y.H., Zhang, Y.K., Zhao, Z.B., Energy efficiency evaluation of lipid production by oleaginous yeast Rhodosporidium toruloides (2012) J Therm Anal Calorim., 108, pp. 119-126. , 1:CAS:528:DC%2BC38Xjt12rsbk%3D 10.1007/s10973-011-1659-6Dunn, R.O., Bagby, M.O., Low-temperature properties of triglyceride-based diesel fuels: Transesterified methyl esters and petroleum middle distillate/ester blends (1995) J Am Oil Chem Soc., 72, pp. 895-904. , 1:CAS:528:DyaK2MXnsFyjt7o%3D 10.1007/BF02542067Chiu, C.W., Schumacher, L.G., Suppes, G.J., Impact of cold flow improvers on soybean biodiesel blend (2004) Biomass Bioenergy., 27, pp. 485-491. , 1:CAS:528:DC%2BD2cXms1ygtbw%3D 10.1016/j.biombioe.2004.04.006Dunn, R.O., Crystallization behavior of fatty acid methyl esters (2008) J Am Oil Chem Soc., 85, pp. 961-972. , 1:CAS:528:DC%2BD1cXhtFSmsLzO 10.1007/s11746-008-1279-xSantos, N.A., Rosenhaim, R., Dantas, M.B., Bicudo, T.C., Cavalcanti, E.H.S., Barro, A.K., Santos, I.M.G., Souza, A.G., Rheology and MT-DSC studies of the flow properties of ethyl and methyl babassu biodiesel and blends (2011) J Therm Anal Calorim., 106, pp. 501-506. , 1:CAS:528:DC%2BC3MXhtleqsL7K 10.1007/s10973-011-1394-zTeixeira, G.A.A., Maia, A.S., Santos, I.M.G., Souza, A.L., Souza, A.G., Queiroz, N., Biodiesels from beef tallow/soybean oil/babassu oil blends: Correlation between fluid dynamic properties and TMDSC data (2011) J Therm Anal Calorim., 106, pp. 563-567. , 1:CAS:528:DC%2BC3MXhtleqsL3K 10.1007/s10973-011-1626-2Soriano, Jr.N.U., Migo, V.P., Matsumura, M., Ozonied vegetable oil as pour point depresant neat biodiesel (2005) Fuel., 85, pp. 25-31. , 10.1016/j.fuel.2005.06.006Knothe, G., Dependence of biodiesel fuel properties on the structure of fatty acid alkyl esters (2005) Fuel Process Technol., 10, pp. 1059-1070. , 10.1016/j.fuproc.2004.11.002González-Gómez, M.E., Howard-Hildige, J., Leahy, J.J., Rice, B., Winterisation of waste cooking oil methyl ester to improve cold temperature fuel properties (2002) Fuel., 81, pp. 33-39. , 10.1016/S0016-2361(01)00117-XMambrim, M.C.T., Barrera-Arellano, D., Caracterización de aceites de frutos de palmeiras de la region Amazônica del Brasil (1997) Grasas Aceites., 48 (3), pp. 154-158. , 1:CAS:528:DyaK1cXitVGqsL0%3D 10.3989/gya.1997.v48.i3.783Dmp, A., Lima, E.F., (2001) Agronegócio da Mamona No Brasil, , Campina: Embrapa Informacões TécnicasCaland, L.B., Santos, L.S.S., Rodarte De Moura, C.V., Moura, E.M., Preparation and study of bimetallic compounds efficiency in the synthesis of biodiesel fuel (2009) Catal Lett., 128, pp. 392-400. , 10.1007/s10562-008-9762-4Lima, J.R.O., Silva, R.B., Silva, C.M., Biodiesel de babaçu (Orgignya sp.) obtido por via etanólica (2007) Quím Nova., 30, pp. 600-603. , 1:CAS:528:DC%2BD2sXmtFSgu7s%3D 10.1590/S0100-40422007000300019Oliveira, L.E., Giordani, D.S., Paiva, E.M., Castro, H.F., Silva, M., Kinetic and thermodynamic parameters of volatilization of biodiesel from babassu, palm oil and mineral diesel by thermogravimetric analysis (TG) (2013) J Therm Anal Calorim., 111, pp. 507-515. , 10.1007/s10973-011-2163-8Imahara, H., Minami, E., Saka, S., Thermodynamic study on cloud point of biodiesel with its fatty acid composition (2006) Fuel., 85, pp. 1666-1670. , 1:CAS:528:DC%2BD28XksFyks7c%3D 10.1016/j.fuel.2006.03.003Santos, N.A., Tavares, M., Rosenhaim, R., Silva, F.C., Fernandes, Jr.V.J., Santos, I.M.G., Souza, A.G., Thermogravimetric and calorimetric evaluation of babassu biodiesel obtained by the methanol route (2007) J Therm Anal Calorim., 87, pp. 649-652. , 1:CAS:528:DC%2BD2sXis1Knu7w%3D 10.1007/s10973-006-7765-1Fuduka, H., Kondo, A., Noda, H.J., Biodiesel fuel production by transesterification of oils (2001) Biosci Bioeng., 92, pp. 405-416ANP Resolution 42, from November 24, 2004 - DOU 9.12.2004 RET -DOU 19. 4.2005.Ejl, M., Rcre, Q., Souza, A.G., Amtm, C., Medeiros, A.N., De Souza, D.L., Madruga, M.S., Thermal and quality evaluation of vegetable oils used in ruminant feed (2012) J Therm Anal Calorim., , doi: 10.1007/s10973-012-2653-3Rousseau, D., Marangoni, A.G., Jeffrey, K.R., The influence of chemical interesterification on the physicochemical properties of complex fat systems. 2. The objective of this work was to evaluate the efficiency of the sanitizers sodium hypochlorite, hydrogen peroxide and sodium dichloro isocianurate applied before and after the minimum processing of the Peruvian carrot. Peruvian carrots of the cultivar Amarela de Senador Amaral purchased in the local commerce were utilized. Detergent and water were used for the surface cleaning of the roots. Afterwards, the roots were divided into two groups: control (not sanitized) and sanitized, for immersion into 100mg.L-1 sodium dichloro isocyanurate for 15 minutes. They were then peeled, sliced into rings and immersed into the following sanitizers: sodium hypochlorite (25, 50 and 100 mg.L-1 for 10 minutes), hydrogen peroxide (3 and 6%, for 5 minutes) and sodium dichloro isocyanurate (50, 100 and 200 mg.L-1 for 10 minutes); packed and stored in cold chamber ( 5 ± 1ºC and 98% RH) for 15 days. The following analyses were performed every 3 days: pH, titrable acidity, soluble solids, coliforms determination and search for Salmonella. The pH, AT and SS variables were not affected by the used treatments. The presence of coliforms at 45ºC and Salmonella was not detected during the storage of either control or sanitized fresh-cut Peruvian carrots and low counts for coliforms at 35ºC were found. The sanitization of the produce before processing with 100mg.L-1 sodium dichloro isocyanurate and hygienic-sanitary conditions during processing allow obtaining a produce with microbiological standard according to the food legislation until the 15th day of storage

The objective of this study was to evaluate the agronomic divergence of 25 sorghum hybrids (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench) in the semiarid region of Paraiba. A randomized block design with three replications was used for evaluation of plant height (PH), total natural matter production (TNMP) and total dry matter production (TDMP) and the percentage of components of DM (panicle, leaf blade, stem and dead matter) of the following hybrids: 866005, 866019, 866033, 866034, 866035, 866036, 866037, 866040, 866041, 866042, 866043, 866044, 870025, 870031, 870035, 870041, 870051, 870067, 870081, 870085, 870095, 1F305, BRS 610, Volumax, and XBS60329. Hybrid 1F305, followed by hybrid 866034, presented the highest average PH. There was a range from 7.679 to 20.948 kg/ha (average of 13,799 kg/ha) for TDMP. Hybrids 1F305, BRS 610 and Volumax presented less potential, and hybrids 866,041 and 866,042 were the most productive. Based on cluster analysis and subjective cut in 50% of dissimilarity, it was possible to establish four hierarchical groups, from which two stood out concerning productive characteristics. The group formed by hybrids Volumax, BRS 610, and XBS60329 presented lower averages for yield and lower percentage of panicle. Hybrids 866041 and 866042 show a higher total dry matter production, with values around 20,000 kg/ha
