    Nonlinear c-axis transport in Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_(8+d) from two-barrier tunneling

    Motivated by the peculiar features observed through intrinsic tunneling spectroscopy of Bi2_2Sr2_2CaCu2_2O8+δ_{8+\delta} mesas in the normal state, we have extended the normal state two-barrier model for the c-axis transport [M. Giura et al., Phys. Rev. B {\bf 68}, 134505 (2003)] to the analysis of dI/dVdI/dV curves. We have found that the purely normal-state model reproduces all the following experimental features: (a) the parabolic VV-dependence of dI/dVdI/dV in the high-TT region (above the conventional pseudogap temperature), (b) the emergence and the nearly voltage-independent position of the "humps" from this parabolic behavior lowering the temperature, and (c) the crossing of the absolute dI/dVdI/dV curves at a characteristic voltage V×V^\times. Our findings indicate that conventional tunneling can be at the origin of most of the uncommon features of the c axis transport in Bi2_2Sr2_2CaCu2_2O8+δ_{8+\delta}. We have compared our calculations to experimental data taken in severely underdoped and slightly underdoped Bi2_2Sr2_2CaCu2_2O8+δ_{8+\delta} small mesas. We have found good agreement between the data and the calculations, without any shift of the calculated dI/dV on the vertical scale. In particular, in the normal state (above TT^\ast) simple tunneling reproduces the experimental dI/dV quantitatively. Below TT^\ast quantitative discrepancies are limited to a simple rescaling of the voltage in the theoretical curves by a factor \sim2. The need for such modifications remains an open question, that might be connected to a change of the charge of a fraction of the carriers across the pseudogap opening.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figure

    Dynamical noncommutativity

    The model of dynamical noncommutativity is proposed. The system consists of two interrelated parts. The first of them describes the physical degrees of freedom with coordinates q^1, q^2, the second one corresponds to the noncommutativity r which has a proper dynamics. After quantization the commutator of two physical coordinates is proportional to the function of r. The interesting feature of our model is the dependence of nonlocality on the energy of the system. The more the energy, the more the nonlocality. The lidding contribution is due to the mode of noncommutativity, however, the physical degrees of freedom also contribute in nonlocality in higher orders in \theta.Comment: published versio

    Identification of differentially expressed genes in pathways of cerebral neurotransmission of anovulatory mice

    Polycystic ovary syndrome is the classic example of loss of functional cyclicity and anomalous feedback. In this case, the excessive extra-glandular production and conversion of androgens to estrogens are the pathophysiological basis of the chronic anovulation. The literature describes an experimental model of the polymicrocystic ovary in obese diabetic mice with insulin resistance. The fact that these animals exhibit obesity, insulin resistance, and infertility demonstrates their skill as an experimental model for polycystic ovary. A recent study using long protocol for up to 40 weeks showed that anovulatory and obese mice transplanted with adipose tissue from animals with normal weight have multiple changes in their phenotype. These changes include reduction of body weight, prevention of obesity, insulin level normalization, and insulin tolerance tests, preventing the elevation of steroids and especially the reversal of fertility restoration with anovulation. Considering that there are close relationships between the ovulation process and the central nervous system, we propose to evaluate the gene expression levels of 84 different genes involved in neurotransmission and insulin pathways in addition to examining the neurolipidosis differential murine brain before and after reversal of anovulation. The present study showed changes in gene expression of molecular markers in brain tissue of animals for brain neurotransmission pathways as well as pathways for insulin. GABAergic genes, muscarinic, serotonin receptors, receptor tyrosine kinase, and genes of interleukin 6 showed overexpression profile. There was also a change in the lipid content in anovulatory brain, obesity, and insulin resistant mice (Ob-/Ob-) compared with controls.     The exact 1+3 covariant dynamical fluid equations for a multi-component plasma, together with Maxwell's equations are presented in such a way as to make them suitable for a gauge-invariant analysis of linear density and velocity perturbations of the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker model. In the case where the matter is described by a two component plasma where thermal effects are neglected, a mode representing high-frequency plasma oscillations is found in addition to the standard growing and decaying gravitational instability picture.     Thermostatistics of overdamped motion of interacting particles

    We show through a nonlinear Fokker-Planck formalism, and confirm by molecular dynamics simulations, that the overdamped motion of interacting particles at T=0, where T is the temperature of a thermal bath connected to the system, can be directly associated with Tsallis thermostatistics. For sufficiently high values of T, the distribution of particles becomes Gaussian, so that the classical Boltzmann-Gibbs behavior is recovered. For intermediate temperatures of the thermal bath, the system displays a mixed behavior that follows a novel type of thermostatistics, where the entropy is given by a linear combination of Tsallis and Boltzmann-Gibbs entropies.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
