Oceanographic research in Delagoa Bay area: a progress report

    Get PDF
Oceanographic research carried out in the Delagoa Bay (Mozambique) area in January 1982 confirms the presence of a cyclonic eddy influencing a total area of approximately 150 km x 80 km between the Mozambique Current and the 200 m isobaths. The bottom topography seems to play a major role in the generation of the eddy. Comparison with results of investigations carried out in the area from 1957 to 1980 suggests that the eddy is quasi-stationary

Water masses and circulation of the Mozambique Channel

From 1977 to 1980, several research cruises were carried out in the coastal waters of Mozambique to collect oceanographic data. The distribution of hydrographic and bathythermograph stations is given. The water masses and circulation were mapped and wind data gathered

A report on a survey with the r/v "Ernst Haeckel" in July-August 1980: shallow-water shrimp and by-catch, oceanography

A survey of the Sofala Bank (Mozambique) was conducted to: estimate the abundance of shallow-water shrimp in the area between 16 degree 20'S and 20 degree 20'S, from 5 to 100 meters; estimate the shallow-water shrimp species composition and distribution pattern of main species. Collect biological data of the main species, Penaeus indicus and Metapenaeus monoceros; study the shrimp by-catch, species composition and biological data collection of the most abundant species of commercial value; and collect environmental data to clarify the shelf circulation on the Sofala Bank and the main oceanic features in the regions 15 degree S to 18 degree S and south of 22 degree S

MOHID platform automatic calibration employing a stochastic optimization method and real data from an extreme climate event in Nova Friburgo‐RJ: Part1–digital terrain model preparation and processing of rainfall and level experimental data

This is the first of two complementary articles that deal with the implementation of an automatic calibration routine coupled to a simulation model of runoff and the flow of two urban watersheds, both located in the city of Nova Friburgo, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The models were built in the MOHID Waters Modelling System. This first part presents the methodology of the construction of the Digital Terrain Model–DTM and the drainage network of the studied watersheds, made in the MOHID platform, as well as the acquisition of actual rainfall data and water levels through the site of the Instituto Estadual do Ambiente–INEA. The results were compared with ArcMap software and showed a good agreement regarding the delimitation of watersheds and the drainage network.Peer Reviewe

Cell spotting – let’s fight cancer together!

Efficient cancer drugs need to selectively destroy tumour cells without harming healthy cells. Existing chemotherapy treatments have failed to reach that ideal level of selectivity, but many research teams continue to look for compounds that could become the effective and side-effect-free drugs of tomorrow..

On the equivalence of the self-dual and Maxwell-Chern-Simons models coupled to Fermions

    Get PDF
We study the exact equivalence between the self-dual model minimally coupled with a Dirac field and the Maxwell-Chern-Simons model with non-minimal magnetic coupling to fermions. We show that the fermion sectors of the models are equivalent only if a Thirring like interaction is included. Using functional methods we verify that, up to renormalizations, the equivalence persists at the quantum level.Comment: 8 pages, revte
