Localização, competitividade e tendências da indústria na Amazônia (1996-2010)

O artigo dimensiona, caracteriza, diferencia e explicita fundamentos de alterações no padrão de localização e de especialização regional da indústria no Norte do Brasil, entre 1996 e 2010. A partir disso, identifica padrões distintos de expansão industrial: um representado pelo crescimento muito acelerado da indústria extrativa mineral, resultando na redução da diversificação relativa da indústria na região; outro pela expansão moderada de algumas categorias da indústria de transformação. O artigo indica que tais distinções têm implicações diretas sobre processos de desenvolvimento regional, uma vez que há indícios de que do primeiro padrão expansivo resulta o estabelecimento de relações tênues e facilmente reversíveis entre as estruturas industriais e a sociedade e a economia regionais; já o segundo, aparentemente, impulsiona o fortalecimento de aglomeração urbana que enseja o surgimento de externalidades positivas capazes de impulsionar rendimentos crescentes e processos de desenvolvimento duradouros

Expansão geográfica, fronteira e regionalização: a região de Carajás

The article discusses the fundamentals of geographic expansion and spatial reorganization, pointing out that the production of the Amazon frontier is their product. It indicates that social groups with diverse economic and political power carry out spatial appropriation selectively at the border, regionalizing it. Context in which, it presents methodological paths for of space production, segmentation and, finally, based on them, it points out historical-geographical specificities that allow to consider that, in the second half of the 1980s, evidence of the constitution of the constitution of territorial shape of the Carajás region was consolidated

Changes in the relationship between society and nature in the Mezzo-region of Southeastern Par\ue1, Amazon, Brazil

With this work, the authors wish to show some of the alterations in the pattern of relations between society and nature, which have taken place throughout the 20th century in the Parauapebas and Itacaiúnas river valleys, as well as in parts of the Tocantins River valley, in southeastern Pará. This is accomplished through descriptions based on Coudreau's first-hand accounts (1889), transcribed in "Voyage a Itaboca et a L'Itacayuna", published in 1897, which depicts an area almost totally covered by forest. This is followed by a counter view made possible through the LandSat 5 satellite sensors, with images of those valleys in 2001, showing the consequences of society transformations and pressure on natural resources, and above all the dramatic decrease in the size of the forest, reduced to 52 percent of the 63,000 square kilometers analyzed herein
