Inequalities for eigenvalues of operators in divergence form on Riemannian manifolds isometrically immersed in Euclidean space

In this paper, we compute universal inequalities of eigenvalues of a large class of second-order elliptic differential operators in divergence form, that includes, e.g., the Laplace and Cheng-Yau operators, on a bounded domain in a complete Riemannian manifolds isometrically immersed in Euclidean space. A key step in order to obtain the sequence of our estimates is to get the right Yang-type first inequality. We also prove some inequalities for manifolds supporting some special functions and tensors.Comment: 15 pages. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:2206.0943

Objective: This work includes the study of circadian and seasonal variation of barbatusin, active compound present in P. grandis (Plectranthus grandis), through the implementation and validation of an analytical method capable of detecting and quantifying this metabolite. Methods: High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was performed with a Phenomenex C18 column (250 mm x 4.60 mm-5 µm), a binary gradient of water and acetonitrile (8:2, v/v) at a constant flow rate of 0.8 ml min-1 and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-VIS) at 254 nm as detector. Results: The retention factor for barbatusin was found to be 18.34±0.05 min. The calibration curve was linear (r2>0.999). The intraday and interday precisions of the method were determined, the (Relative Standard Deviation) RSD (%) ranged from 0.74 to 3.53 and from 2.21 to 5.30, respectively. The limits of detection and quantification were 85.30 and 258.40 µg ml-1. The method is simple, precise, accurate and selective and can be routinely used for barbatusin analysis in P. grandis extracts. Conclusion: The methodology can be applied to the quantification barbatusin of powdered samples P. grandis at any time of year. The method showed excellent results in all steps of the validation demonstrating the possibility of an extensive use of time for the determination with the largest amount of compound derivatization of the same order for future studies. Keywords: Plectranthus grandis, Barbatusin, HPLC, Quantification, Diterpen

CEBs stabilised with geopolymeric binders: mechanical performance of dry-stack masonry

    Get PDF
The sustainability in the building industry is currently a sounding topic, seeking the development of more environmental friendly building materials. The incorporation of industrial wastes and the reuse of construction and demolition waste (CDW) in the production of building materials are methods being used to solve this problem. Furthermore, these methods contribute to fulfilling the targets defined by European Union for the valorisation of non-hazard waste. The construction with compressed earth blocks (CEBs) stabilised with geopolymeric binders is a solution that can contribute to this objective by incorporating both CDW (excavation soil) and industrial wastes. Despite some recent research done on this topic, it still deserves further investigation. This paper intends to contribute to the development of this topic by presenting an experimental program, continuing previous research. The experimental program is addressed to the mechanical characterisation of a dry-stack CEB (stabilised with geopolymer obtained from alkaline activation of fly ash) masonry system, and includes the evolution of the strength of the CEBs with the curing time. In general, the evolution of the strength of the CEBs cured under ambient condition was shown to be a slow process, which can have implications on the production process.Portuguese Science and Technology Foundation (FCT) through the project FCOMP-01-0124-FEDER-028864 (FCT-PTDC/ECM-EST/2396/2012)

The coordination of ruthenium(II) complexes to anionic oxygen-based donors are very rare. This study describes a simple, one-pot method for obtaining [ruthenium(II)(trithiacyclononane)(curcumin)(S-DMSO)]Cl (1) in 37% yield. The structural characterization of complex 1 by elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1-D and 2-D NMR, ESI+-MS as well as UV–vis and fluorescence spectroscopies are presented. The DNA-melting temperature (Tm) assay shows that salmon sperm DNA (smDNA) in the presence of complex 1 has a higher melting temperature, with ΔTm = 7.4 °C, while in the presence of curcumin the melting temperature remains unaltered. The in vitro cytotoxic activities of curcumin and complex 1 were investigated using the tumor human prostate cell line, PC-3, and the healthy cell line, PNT-2. Complex 1 is innocuous toward normal prostate epithelial cells and, whereas curcumin is toxic, with inhibition rates of ca. 35 and 65% at 50 and 80 μM, respectively. On the tumor cell line PC-3, complex 1 did not cause viability changes, whereas curcumin exhibited dose-dependent inhibition, with ca. 73% inhibition at the highest concentration tested, i.e. 80 μM. This study suggests that coordination with the trithiacyclononane ruthenium(II) scaffold stabilizes the photochemical properties of curcumin and strongly changes its biologic activity.publishe

Over the last years it was possible to observe an increasing concern in terms of sustainability and environmental preservation. This work aims to make a contribution in this direction, particularly through the development of a more sustainable material, with lower environmental impact, employing a technique that allows to face the industrial waste as raw materials. The earth as building material has a millenary use, proven by the important monuments that have survived till nowadays. The alkaline activation, while technique for the production of alternative binders, has shown a great potential, evidenced over the last years. Through the use of the soil and alkali activated fly ashes was possible to develop a material for the manufacture of compressed earth blocks (CEB) with mechanical performance, either individually or at the level of the masonry itself, suitable for use in this type of structure.FCT (Fundação para a Ciência e Ta ecnologia), através do ISISE, com o projeto IUD/ECI/04029/201

    Get PDF
Polypyrrole (PPY) powder was chemically synthesized using ferric chloride (FeCl3) and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Le Bail Method, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometry (FTIR), and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). XRD pattern showed a broad scattering of a semicrystalline structure composed of main broad peaks centered at 2θ = 11.4°, 22.1°, and 43.3°. Crystallinity percentage was estimated by the ratio between the sums of the peak areas to the area of amorphous broad halo due to the amorphous phase and showed that PPY has around 20 (1)%. FTIR analysis allowed assigning characteristic absorption bands in the structure of PPY. SEM showed micrometric particles of varying sizes with morphologies similar to cauliflower. Crystal data (monoclinic, space group P 21/c, a=7.1499 (2) Å, b=13.9470 (2) Å, c=17.3316 (2) Å, α=90 Å, β=61.5640 (2) Å and γ=90 Å) were obtained using the FullProf package program under the conditions of the method proposed by Le Bail. Molecular relaxation was performed using the density functional theory (DFT) and suggests that tetramer polymer chains are arranged along the “c” direction. Average crystallite size was found in the range of 20 (1) Å. A value of 9.33 × 10−9 S/cm was found for PPY conductivity

Implementation and early experience of a pediatric electrophysiology telehealth program

BACKGROUND: Telehealth (TH) visits have been growing with exponential increased utilization during the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of this manuscript is to describe the implementation and early experience of a pediatric electrophysiology (EP) TH program implemented during the pandemic, assessing patient satisfaction, patient equity and inclusion (measured by geographical outreach), and sustainability. METHODS: A retrospective chart review study was performed and data were collected from the medical record, including demographic, testing, and billing data from scheduled TH encounters between March and August 2020 of a single pediatric EP group in the Midwest. Patients were called to complete satisfaction surveys. RESULTS: Patients with diverse pathologies were seen in TH, with supraventricular/atrial tachycardias (n = 41, 35%) and inherited arrhythmia syndromes (n = 23, 20%) being most common. The mean distance from clinic was 95 miles (range 2.8-320 miles), with 43% of patients living more than 100 miles away from clinic. A total of 172 tests were performed previsit (n = 102, 59%), during the visit (n = 17, 10%), or postvisit (n = 53, 31%), including 15 EP studies. Time-based Current Procedural Terminology codes were predominantly used for billing purposes (n = 92, 78%). There was generation of work relative value units (wRVU) for visits (220.5 wRVU) and testing (325.1 wRVU). Survey data demonstrated that 98% of patients were satisfied with their telehealth appointment and 99% had a clear understanding of their diagnosis. CONCLUSION: Pediatric EP TH clinics can provide care for a geographically and pathologically heterogeneous group of patients who had positive attitudes toward TH. Our study shows significant downstream testing and subsequent wRVU generation, suggesting financial sustainability
