    Semen analysis and sperm function parameters in patients with infertility in Navi Mumbai and Panvel region

    Background: Although semen analysis is routinely used to evaluate male partner in infertile couples, infertility and problems of impaired fecundity have been a concern through ages and is also a significant clinical problem today, which affects 8-12% of couples worldwide. Aim of the study was to study different semen parameters in male factor infertility (MFI) and thus increasing the awareness regarding same.Methods: This is cross sectional study conducted between period of September 2016 to December 2018. Semen of 150 patients were studied and results were analysed as per recent WHO (2010) criteria.Results: The present study included 150 patients whose age ranged from 24 to 51 years. Patients were divided into different age groups and sperm count was studied in each group. Abnormal sperm morphology was studied with respect to sperm head, neck, tail defects and combined defects. Sperm deformity index (SDI) and Teratozoospermic index (TZI) were calculated. Other parameters including semen volume, pH, liquefaction time, sperm vitality and motility were also studied which showed significant variations. Conclusions: Although semen analysis is first and most informative investigation for evaluation of male factor infertility, studying individual semen parameters and sperm function and increasing its awareness in general population especially in developing countries is equally important. Besides, it is necessary to acknowledge its limitation with respect to collection, processing, evaluation and biological variation of samples. Also, a normal semen analysis may not prove successful fertility potential of an individual

    Role of microbes in alleviating abiotic stress in plants

    The leading threat to agricultural productivity is the recurrent variations in environmental conditions. A battery of abiotic stresses namely flooding, salinity, temperature, drought, heavy metal toxicities, nutrient deficiencies and oxidative stress causes irreversible damage resulting in loss of plant’s vigor and yield. The relationship between plants and microorganisms is a highly dynamic system. The plant microbiome consists of plant growth-promoting bacteria and fungi. In the last decade, many microbes that give hosts the ability to withstand abiotic stress have been characterized in detail. Their beneficial association with plants enables the plant to endure different stresses imposed on them thereby enhancing the plant's sustainability and productivity. For sustainable agriculture, it is very significant to comprehend microbiome-assisted mechanisms for mitigating abiotic stress. This review will shed light on the current knowledge about the roles of various microorganisms in mitigating against abiotic stresses. The understanding of these mechanisms will help to increase the yield of plants and meet the food demands of the expanding population

    Wildlife prevention has become an important practice due to negative effects of human activities such as cutting of trees on large scale and unregulated hunting which causes major threat to wildlife. So we are going to introduce the project on prevention of trees and wildlife in forest. This article presents the design of a system for detection of vibration for prevention of cutting of trees, detection of temperature for prevention of forest fires also detection of pulses of animal for prevention wildlife using wireless sensor networks to prevent a disaster (forest) that could lead to loss of a significant number of natural resources. In this project, The sensing device can sense the vibration, pulse, and temperature, and then sent them over zig-bee networks to forest office. To save the transmission cost, we also sent the GPS location information simultaneously. Here we use Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs).In this network numerous sensors are usually deployed on remote places, the deployment and maintenance must be easy and scalable. Wireless sensor network is the network which consists of large number of small nodes. Sensor nodes are great for deployment in hostile environments or over large geographical areas.     An Ensemble of Statistical Metadata and CNN Classification of Class Imbalanced Skin Lesion Data

    Skin Cancer is one of the most widely present forms of cancer. The correct classification of skin lesions as malignant or benign is a complex process that has to be undertaken by experienced specialists. Another major issue of the class imbalance of data causes a bias in the results of classification. This article presents a novel approach to the usage of metadata of skin lesions\u27 images to classify them. The usage of techniques addresses the problem of class imbalance to nullify the imbalances. Further, the use of a convolutional neural network (CNN) is proposed to fine-tune the skin lesion data classification. Ultimately, it is proven that an ensemble of statistical metadata analysis and CNN usage would result in the highest accuracy of skin color classification instead of using the two techniques separately

    A comparative study on effects of intrathecal ropivacaine plus dexmedetomidine versus ropivacaine plus clonidine

    Background: Subarachnoid block is a safe and effective alternative to general anaesthesia when surgical site is located on the lower extremities, perineum or lower body wall. Spinal anaesthesia produces intense sensory and motor blockade as well as sympathetic blockade. Intrathecal α-2-agonists are used as adjuvant drugs to local anaesthetics successfully over the last decade .They potentiate the effect of local anaesthetic and decrease the required doses. Clonidine is a partial α-2-adrenorecptor agonist used intrathecally, with a well- established record of efficacy and safety. Its addition to local anaesthetics prolongs the duration of both motor and sensory spinal blockade. Dexmedetomidine is an α-2-adrenorecptor agonist. It has α-2/α1 selectivity ratio which is eight times higher than that of Clonidine. With this background, this study was conducted to compare the effects of intrathecal Ropivacaine plus Dexmedetomidine versus Ropivacaine plus Clonidine during procedures. Methods: The present prospective study was carried out in the Department of Anaesthesiology, M.G.M. Medical College and M.Y. Hospital, Indore (M.P.), India. Study period was from June 2011 to July 2012. Patient were randomly allocated to one of the following three group in a double blinded fashion based on computer generated code: Ropivacaine (R), Ropivacaine + Dexmedetomidine (D); Ropivacaine + Clonidine (C). Nominal categorical data between study groups were compared using the Chi – squared test or Fisher’s exact test as appropriate. p<0.05 was considered to be significant. Results: In all age groups patients were equally distributed in three Groups. Mean time taken for the onset of sensory and motor block was quite low in group D patients. Thereby showing statistically highly significant difference in onset of sensory and motor blocks (P<0.001). Whereas mean duration of sensory and motor block was also quite prolonged in group D patients. (p<0.001) There is significant difference between all the three groups. Conclusion: In conclusion our study shows that intrathecal Dexmedetomidine or Clonidine added with isobaric Ropivacaine produces rapid and prolonged sensory and motor block as compared to plain Ropivacaine.

    Assessing the Severity of Health States based on Social Media Posts

    The unprecedented growth of Internet users has resulted in an abundance of unstructured information on social media including health forums, where patients request health-related information or opinions from other users. Previous studies have shown that online peer support has limited effectiveness without expert intervention. Therefore, a system capable of assessing the severity of health state from the patients' social media posts can help health professionals (HP) in prioritizing the user's post. In this study, we inspect the efficacy of different aspects of Natural Language Understanding (NLU) to identify the severity of the user's health state in relation to two perspectives(tasks) (a) Medical Condition (i.e., Recover, Exist, Deteriorate, Other) and (b) Medication (i.e., Effective, Ineffective, Serious Adverse Effect, Other) in online health communities. We propose a multiview learning framework that models both the textual content as well as contextual-information to assess the severity of the user's health state. Specifically, our model utilizes the NLU views such as sentiment, emotions, personality, and use of figurative language to extract the contextual information. The diverse NLU views demonstrate its effectiveness on both the tasks and as well as on the individual disease to assess a user's health
