Study on the dynamic characteristics of solidified silt under dynamic load

    Get PDF
The treatment and utilization of silt have always been a difficult problem in the field of engineering construction. Because of its high natural moisture content, low permeability and strength, rheological property and rich organic matter, the silt soil cannot be directly used in engineering practice. Under this background, in order to further explore the dynamic characteristics of solidified silt under dynamic load, a shallow mud along the coast of the Pearl River Delta in Guangdong Province was used as raw material, inorganic liquid solidifying agent and 32.5 ordinary Portland cement as solidifying agent. The dynamic characteristics of silt and solidified silt with age of 7 days and 28 days were studied by means of dynamic triaxial tests. The loaded samples were analyzed by SEM in laboratory. The experimental results show that the dynamic characteristics of the solidified silt soil under dynamic load are much better than that of the remoulded soil, and the solidification effect of the solidified silt soil with an age of 28 days is more obvious. The results can be applied to practical engineering practice

Ideological Manipulation in C-E Translation of the 13th Five-year Plan for Economic and Social Development of the People’s Republic of China

    Get PDF
The Manipulation School argues that the translation study should shift itself from the pure language level to a broader range such as political, cultural or social level. Among several parameters, ideology, poetics and patron are the most important three in manipulation theory. This paper tends to analyze the translation of the 13th Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development of the People’s Republic of China under the perspective of ideology, which aims to prove the efficiency and feasibility of ideological manipulation for the translation of the 13th Five-Year Plan

Technology Fitness Landscape for Design Innovation: A Deep Neural Embedding Approach Based on Patent Data

Technology is essential to innovation and economic prosperity. Understanding technological changes can guide innovators to find new directions of design innovation and thus make breakthroughs. In this work, we construct a technology fitness landscape via deep neural embeddings of patent data. The landscape consists of 1,757 technology domains and their respective improvement rates. In the landscape, we found a high hill related to information and communication technologies (ICT) and a vast low plain of the remaining domains. The landscape presents a bird's eye view of the structure of the total technology space, providing a new way for innovators to interpret technology evolution with a biological analogy, and a biologically-inspired inference to the next innovation.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figure

Characteristics of Vehicle Platoons at Isolated Intersections

    Get PDF
It was observed that about 70% of vehicles travel in platoons on Indiana highway corridors in the vicinity of urban areas. Many vehicle platoons were halted at signalized intersections to give the right of way to vehicles on the intersecting minor road, even though there were only one or two vehicles on the minor road. This phenomenon suggested that the total traffic delay at an intersection might be reduced if the approaching vehicle platoons on the major road were allowed to pass through the intersection at the expense of a reasonably prolonged delay of the few vehicles on the minor road. Consequently, a study was conducted to investigate vehicle platoon characteristics and to develop control logic for timing actuated traffic signals in terms of the presence of vehicle platoons. This paper presents some findings of the study on traffic flows in terms of vehicle platoons. Included in this paper are the selection of the fundamental platoon variables and determination of the critical headway value for platoon identification, the appropriate platoon detector placement, and the mathematical distributions of the platoon variables

Performance Evaluation of Coordinated Intersections with GPS Devices

    Get PDF
This paper presents methods for applying GPS devices to evaluate the performance of coordinated intersections in terms of traffic delays. It illustrates that GPS-recorded data provides detailed information on traffic delays of individual intersections as well as traffic delays of coordinated intersections as a whole system, including travel-time delay, stopped-time delay, time-in-queue delay, approach delay, and total delay. Most of these intersection delays are difficult to measure manually; however, with GPS-collected vehicle-positioning data, they can be either directly identified or indirectly derived. Methods for obtaining different types of intersection delays with GPS devices are introduced

On Wang Rongpei’s Drama Translation Strategy: A Case Study of The Peony Pavilion

    Get PDF
As a special literary form, drama is characterized by personalization, colloquialization, rhythm and the feature of performability. For a long time, the focus of drama translation studies has also fallen on the “performability” at home and abroad. The Peony Pavilion is one of the masterpieces in ancient China. With its beautiful and elegant lyrics, engaging anecdotes and vivid characters, The Peony Pavilion has an enduring popularity on the opera stage and a high literary value. There are many translations of The Peony Pavilion. Among all the versions, Wang Rongpei’s translation has balanced “spirit” and “meaning” and creatively reproduced the original style.Wang Rongpei first proposed the translation theory of “faithful in meaning and vivid in description” when he translatingThe Book of Songs in 1994. He thought that “faithful” refers to accurately express the meaning of the original text with target language, and “vivid” means showing the original style, emotion, rhythm, images, and characteristics. This article takes Wang Rongpei’s version of The Peony Pavilion as the study object and puts it under the criteria of “faithful in meaning and vivid in description”, analyzing the translation of the lyrics and researching how he transmits the spirit on the basis of being faithful in meaning. The aim of this article is to analyze Wang Rongpei’s dramatic translation techniques and explore the guiding and theoretical significance of this strategy for Chinese classical opera translation
