The implementation of uncertainty evaluation model in manufacturability analysis system for miniature machine tool
The development of Manufacturability Analysis System for micro-machining domain (MicroMAS) is intended to address the need of the 4-axis Miniature Machine Tool (MMT) that require such system to assist the user in generating micro-component through manufacturability evaluation. One of the manufacturability aspects being assessed is the impacts from Uncertainty Evaluation Model (UEM) analysis that analyse the influence of the errors stemmed from the MMT construction on the geometrical accuracy of the machined micro-parts. The model has allowed a methodology for the errors in a custom-made MMT to be predicted and to further understand the origin of the errors on the machined micro-part. This paper reports on the implementation of UEM in the development of MicroMAS. Therefore, the results from uncertainty evaluation towards the MMT were integrated in the database which are interactively searched based on IF-THEN clauses in order to determine which rules satisfy the requirements expressed via inputs
A Cross-Layer Approach for Minimizing Interference and Latency of Medium Access in Wireless Sensor Networks
In low power wireless sensor networks, MAC protocols usually employ periodic
sleep/wake schedule to reduce idle listening time. Even though this mechanism
is simple and efficient, it results in high end-to-end latency and low
throughput. On the other hand, the previously proposed CSMA/CA-based MAC
protocols have tried to reduce inter-node interference at the cost of increased
latency and lower network capacity. In this paper we propose IAMAC, a CSMA/CA
sleep/wake MAC protocol that minimizes inter-node interference, while also
reduces per-hop delay through cross-layer interactions with the network layer.
Furthermore, we show that IAMAC can be integrated into the SP architecture to
perform its inter-layer interactions. Through simulation, we have extensively
evaluated the performance of IAMAC in terms of different performance metrics.
Simulation results confirm that IAMAC reduces energy consumption per node and
leads to higher network lifetime compared to S-MAC and Adaptive S-MAC, while it
also provides lower latency than S-MAC. Throughout our evaluations we have
considered IAMAC in conjunction with two error recovery methods, i.e., ARQ and
Seda. It is shown that using Seda as the error recovery mechanism of IAMAC
results in higher throughput and lifetime compared to ARQ.Comment: 17 pages, 16 figure
Automated Irrigation System through Wireless Moisture Sensor Network
This project is meant to efficiently improve the water usage in a farm’s irrigation system. The objective of this project is to develop a wireless moisture sensor network system that can monitor and automate the irrigation system. The monitoring operation will collect data and the automatic operation is to automate the irrigation system using the data collected during the monitoring process
Bioremoval of toxic molybdenum using dialysis tubing
The toxicity of molybdenum to ruminants and its general toxicity to spermatogenesis in animals are increasingly being reported. Its contamination of aquatic bodies has been reported, and this necessitates its removal. In this work, we utilize the dialysis tubing method coupled with the molybdenum-reducing activity of S. marcescens strain Dr.Y6 to remove molybdenum from solution. The enzymatic reduction of molybdenum into the colloidal molybdenum blue traps the reduced product in the dialysis tubing. The initial rate of increase of Mo-blue product was determined using the modified Gompertz model while the resultant inhibition kinetics profile was carried out using the Haldane model. The calculated maximal rate of Mo-blue production was 153 µmole (Mo-blue.hr)-1 and the concentration of molybdate resulting in the half-maximal rate of reduction (Ks), and the inhibition constant (Ki) were 0.22 and 506 mM, respectively. The results indicate that the system using dialysis tubing coupled with the Mo-reducing bacterium is a good candidate for a method for molybdenum bioremoval from solution
Reinforcing Skeletal System lesson using cycle of internalized learning in English class / Farhana Shukor
This study is aimed to investigate the readiness of 53 first semester diploma students in learning Skeletal System lesson in English class using five stages of Cycle of Internalized Learning. They learned in Health Science lecture about Skeletal System and being revised about the same topic in English class. In the following week, they were assigned with the task to illustrate individually the anatomical diagram of long bones, discuss about the article given and solve critical thinking question from their presentation. Opinions from the students were sought after to get their feedback on the three best things about the lesson and three things they would most likely to see improved. Semi-structured interview sessions were conducted to elicit responses from the students. It is then viewed to be the responsibility of the curriculum designer as well as the language instructor to plan and implement more lessons that will promote cooperative learning among these students. The students needed support from the lecturers to be able to complete the task assigned successfully and in the long run can apply the skills learned at their future workplace
TLC optimizations of the solvent system in identification of lycopene from local watermelon (Citrullus lanatus (thunb.) Matsum. and Nakai) crude extract / Nurafiqah Shukor
Citrullus lanatus are good source of fibre and also rich in phytonutrients namely lycopene which is believed to have the ability of reducing the risks of many disease, producing collagen and as a protection for oxidative damage because. Because of the increasing trend of lycopene estimation as one of the significant nutraceuticals for the use for food and nutritional supplements, researchers are engrossed in unindustrialized products and ingredients high in lycopene by extracting and using these compounds from Citrullus lanatus. However there are insufficient studies on the identification of lycopene compound by using column chromatography and the solvent system as the mobile phase in column chromatography to detect and identify the lycopene compound in local watermelon (Citrullus lanatus (Thunb.) Matsum. and Nakai). Therefore, this study was conducted to optimize the solvent system in the identification of lycopene by using Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC). Few solvents were used to develop the most accurate solvent system to identify lycopene compound in local watermelon (Citrullus lanatus (Thunb.) Matsum. and Nakai). Single solvent of 100% acetonitrile solvent was proved to be the best mobile phase in detection of lycopene compound by using TLC because of the polarity of the solvent. In conclusion the polarity of the solvents and the compound plays an important roles in developing a good solvent system that will produced good separations of compoun
