    Reproductive Wastage in Recurrent Partial Hydatidiform Mole: A Clinical Dilemma.

    Recurrent partial Hydatidiform mole is an extremely rare clinical entity which represent a part of the gestational trophoblatic neoplasia spectrum. Since the first case was reported by Honore. LM in 1987 about eight cases of , recurrent partial moles have been reported in the English medical literature. Present two cases are the 9th and 10th case with recurrent partial moles to be described. We have discussed the aetiology, environmental factors, dietary habits , clinicopathologic features, the clinical dielemmas faced by us while counselling, follow up and pregnancy outcome in women presenting with two and three recurrent partial moles respectively.     Trichopus zeylanicus Gaertn. belonging to family Trichopodaceae is a rare herb with extraordinary medicinal properties found in the Agasthyar hills in Thiruvananthapuram of Kerala.  Trichopus zeylanicus Gaertn.  was regenerated in vitro on MS medium supplemented with different concentrations and combination of auxins and cytokinins. The effect of phytohormones on in vitro establishment of explants, production of multiple shoots and rooting of established shoots were studied. MS medium supplemented with 4.44 mM BAP produced maximum of 32 multiple shoots from seed explant. MS medium supplemented with 2.46 mM IBA induced maximum rooting. The rooted plantlets were acclimatized with a survival rate of 75 per cent to 80 per cent. Key words: Micropropagation, Trichopus zeylanicus Gaertn., Multiple shoots, Seeds

    Coronary artery disease prescribing pattern and risk factor assessment in the patients undergoing angioplasty

    Background: Coronary artery disease is caused by an obstruction in vascular supply to the heart. Angioplasty is a frequently used intervention for the management of CAD patients. Supportive and preventive therapies are additionally provided to these patients. Objective of current study was to assess the associated risk factors as well as prescribing trends in CAD patients.Methods: A prospective study was conducted in 88 patients undergoing coronary angioplasty. Patients were assessed for risk factors of CAD. Medication history of patients was recorded in case record form for analysis of prescribing trend and its rationality. Data were statistically analyzed using prism software.Results: In present study most of the CAD patients were male (80.68%) and mean age of patient was 59.19 years. Majority of patients (39.77%) were in age range of 61-70 years. Most common associated conditions at admission were hypertension and diabetes. In this study, BMI, stress, lack of exercise, hypertension, diabetes, family history of CVD were risk factors of CAD and significant correlation observed with risk factors and coronary artery disease. (p<0.05) Frequently prescribed drugs were antiplatelet, antibiotics, antihypertensive, antiulcer, antihyperlipidemic, antidiabetic agents. In 19.31% cases, drug interaction was detected out of which two cases recorded severe. Medical stents coated with everolimus, sirolimus were also prescribed.Conclusions: It was concluded that history of cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes are major risk factors of CAD. Certain level of irrationality in the prescribing trend was observed. Proper patient counselling and care can help in preventing CAD and reduces health burden

    Yield potential and economics of rabi sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.) as influenced by different crop residues and green biomass composts

    A field experiment was conducted on vertisols at Organic Farming Research Institute, University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur coming under northern Karnataka during rabi season of 2015-16 to study the yield potential (q ha-1 ) and economics of rabi sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.) as influenced by different crop residues and green biomass composts. The experiment consisted of fifteen treatments, of which twelve treatments were based on nitrogen supply though different composts, one recommended dose of fertilizer, one recommended organic and inorganic fertilizers and another was absolute control. Significantly higher grain yield (39.9 q ha-1 ) and stover yield (13.2 tha1 ) was recorded with application of FYM @ 3 t ha-1 + RDF (50:25 N:P2O5 kg ha-1 )followed by recommended NP fertilizers (T13: 37.2 q ha-1 ) and Cotton stalks +Redgram stalks + Glyricidiasp. with C: N ratio of 30:1 compost @ 50 kg N equivalent (T12: 36.6 q ha-1 ). The lowest grain yield was recorded with absolute control (T15: 18.4 q ha-1 ). Significantly higher B:C (3.08) was recorded with RDF(50:25 N:P2O5 kg ha-1 ) + FYM @ 3 t ha-1 application followed Cotton stalks +Redgram stalks + Glyricidia sp. with C: N ratio of 30:1 compost @ 50 kg N equivalent (T12:2.90) over other treatments. Application of recommended FYM @ 3 t ha-1 15 days before sowing along with 50 kg of nitrogen and 25 kg of phosphorus per hectare at the time of sowing recorded higher dry matter production, grain and stover yield and net returns and benefit: cost ratio

    The role of serotonin in personality interference:tryptophan depletion impairs the identification of neuroticism in the face

    Serotonergic mechanisms mediate the expression of personality traits (such as impulsivity, aggression and anxiety) that are linked to vulnerability to psychological illnesses, and modulate the identification of emotional expressions in the face as well as learning about broader classes of appetitive and aversive signals. Faces with neutral expressions signal a variety of socially relevant information, such that inferences about the big five personality traits, including Neuroticism, Extraversion and Agreeableness, can be accurately made on the basis of emotionally neutral facial photographs. Given the close link between Neuroticism and psychological distress, we investigated the effects of diminished central serotonin activity (achieved by tryptophan depletion) upon the accuracy of 52 healthy (non-clinical) adults' discriminations of personality from facial characteristics. All participants were able to discriminate reliably four of the big five traits. However, the tryptophan-depleted participants were specifically less accurate in discriminating Neuroticism than the matched non-depleted participants. These data suggest that central serotonin activity modulates the identification of not only negative facial emotional expression but also a broader class of signals about personality characteristics linked to psychological distress

    Secondary Metabolic Gene Cluster Silencing in Aspergillus Nidulans

    In contrast to most primary metabolism genes, the genes involved in secondary metabolism and certain nutrient utilization pathways are clustered in fungi. Recently a nuclear protein, LaeA, was found to be required for the transcription of several secondary metabolite gene clusters in Aspergillus nidulans. Here we show that LaeA regulation does not extend to nutrient utilization or the spoC1 sporulation clusters. One of the secondary metabolite clusters regulated by LaeA contains the positive regulatory (i.e. aflR) and biosynthetic genes required for biosynthesis of sterigmatocystin (ST), a carcinogenic toxin. Analysis of ST gene cluster expression indicates LaeA regulation of the cluster is location specific as transcription of genes bordering the ST cluster are unaffected in a ΔlaeA mutant and placement of a primary metabolic gene, argB, in the ST cluster resulted in argB silencing in the ΔlaeA background. ST cluster gene expression was remediated when an additional copy of aflR was placed outside of the cluster but not when placed in the cluster. Site-specific mutation of an s-adenosyl methionine (AdoMet) binding site in LaeA generated a ΔlaeA phenotype suggesting the protein to be a methyltransferase

    A field experiment was conducted on vertisols (pH of 7.56 with organic carbon content of 0.55%) at Re- search Institute on Organic Farming, University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur coming under northern Karnataka during rabi season of 2015-16 to study the Influence of varied crop residues and green biomass composts to rabi sorghum growing soils on uptake of major nutrients, organic carbon and soil fertility status. In general application of Cotton stalks, Redgram stalks, Glyricidia, combination of cotton and redgram stalks composts, FYM and combina- tion of organic and inorganic fertilizers helped to buildup soil nutrients with respect to organic carbon, available nitro- gen and phosphorus. Significantly higher nitrogen (227.3 kg ha-1), phosphorous (75.7 kg ha-1) and potassium (141.7 kg ha-1) uptake by rabi sorghum was recorded with combined application of recommended FYM (3 t ha-1) and NP fertilizers (50:25 kg N, P2O5 ha-1) (T14) followed by Cotton stalks +Redgram stalks + Glyricidia sp. with C:N ratio of 30:1 compost @ 50 kg N equivalent (T12: 222.0, 74.0 and 132.3 kg ha-1). The least uptake was recorded with abso- lute control (T15: 127.0, 42.0 and 71.7 kg ha-1). Similar trend was observed with organic carbon, available nitrogen and phosphorus. Combined application of recommended FYM (3 t ha-1) and NP fertilizers (50:25 kg N, P2O5 ha-1) followed by Cotton stalks +Redgram stalks + Glyricidia sp. with C:N ratio of 30:1 compost @ 50 kg N equivalent at the time of sowing recorded higher major nutrients uptake, microbial biomass and soil fertility status

    Assessing performance of horticultural farmers producer companies: Comparative case study

    Every year the horticultural sector of India faces huge quantity of food wastage due to lack of processing, value addition and post-harvest handling. Farmers Producer Company (FPC) can mitigate the loss through ensuring better value chain management. There are several horticulture based FPCs established in different parts of India. They have grown very fast and competing with agro-industries. The present study aimed to assess the performance of FPCs working in horticulture sector. The study was conducted in Maharashtra State of India by selecting three FPCs working in horticultural sector. Performance of these FPCs was assessed through Effectiveness Index developed for this study. Seven components viz. functional effectiveness, increase in income, increase in farmers share in consumers rupees, inclusiveness, sustainability of company, farmers satisfaction and empowerment were included in the index by following standard index forming protocol. Sahyadri Farms was found the best performing one among the selected FPCs, regarding effectiveness with a mean index score of 63.69 followed by Vasundhara Agro Producer Company Limited (50.20) and Junnar Taluka FPC Ltd. (41.29)
