Frequency dependent deformation reversibility during cyclic loading

High-frequency testing (HFT) is useful for accelerated fatigue testing of conventional materials that typically serve under low-frequency loading conditions, as well as for the assessment of the robustness of microelectromechanical systems which typically experience high-frequency service conditions. Using discrete dislocation dynamics, we attempt to elucidate the effect of loading frequency on the reversibility of cyclic deformation. We demonstrate that the HFT induces a higher fraction of reversible cyclic deformation because of a larger portion of elastic/anelastic deformation due to limited dislocation mobility, and a higher degree of reversibility in plastic deformation owing to the less occurrence of cross-slip.

IMPACT STATEMENT

Dislocation-based frequency effects on high-cycle deformation reversibility in metals are elucidated. Hysteresis energy is shown to dissipate even under ideal, damage-free conditions, contrary to popular assumptions of energy-based fatigue models.</p
Multicolor Liposome Mixtures for Selective and Selectable Cargo Release
Many
approaches exist for stimuli-triggered cargo release from
nanocarriers, but few can provide for on-demand release of multiple
payloads, selectively. Here, we report the synthesis of purpurin-phospholipid
(Pur-P), a lipid chromophore that has near-infrared absorbance red-shifted
by 30 nm compared to a structurally similar pyropheophorbide-phospholipid
(Pyr-P). Liposomes containing small amounts of either Pur-P or Pyr-P
exhibited similar physical properties and fluorescence self-quenching.
Loaded with distinct cargos, Pur-P and Pyr-P liposomes were mixed
into a single colloidal suspension and selectively released cargo
depending on irradiation wavelength. Spatiotemporal control of distinct
cargo release was achieved by controlling multicolor laser placement.
Using basic orange and doxorubicin anthraquinones, multidimensional
cytotoxicity gradients were established to gauge efficacy against
cancer cells using light-released drug. Wavelength selectivity of
cargo release was maintained following intramuscular administration
to mice

Table_1_The systemic immune-inflammation index is significantly associated with the severity of silicosis: a 9-year retrospective study in Beijing.docx
BackgroundSilicosis shows an increasing trend with the development of new industries. However, the potential biomarkers for predicting the disease severity are lacking. A novel inflammatory marker, the systemic immune-inflammation Index (SII), has not been studied in silicosis.MethodsIn this retrospective study, we used data from a big database platform of a tertiary general hospital in Beijing, which was established based on the electronic medical records of the hospital. The clinical data of adult patients diagnosed with silicosis at the Department of Occupational Medicine and Toxicology from 2013 to 2022 were collected. The data extracted from the database were in de-identified form. Only patients with a first diagnosis of silicosis and without conditions that might affect the parameters of routine blood tests were included in the analysis. Analyses were performed to assess the relationship between SII and the advanced stage of silicosis.ResultsA total of 246 participants were included in the study. Most of the patients were exposed to silica particles during excavation and digging (n = 149, 60.6%). SII level was significantly higher in patients with advanced stages of silicosis. A multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that a higher SII level was associated with the advanced stage of silicosis [odds ratio (OR) = 1.002; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.000–1.003, p ConclusionHigher SII is associated with the advanced stage of silicosis and impaired lung function. More long-term, large-scale studies are needed to confirm these findings.</p
