    Law Librarianship in India with Special Reference to the Judicial Library System

    Law librarianship, especially the librarianship in judicial institutions, is different from librarianship in any other discipline. This aspect is more appropriately explained by Prof. Igor I. Kavass, when he says that “the reason for law libraries being different from other types of libraries is that they serve a profession which is literally unable to exercise its work without the use of books.” While Librarians in other organizations may convince their users to give them some time for catering to their information requirements, a court librarian has to furnish the desired information at once because the case is being argued in the Court and desired information is needed in the course of the argument. So a law librarian has to provide the information instantly without any excuse. Because of this reason, a law librarian has to be a very alert professional and must develop his or her own tools and expertise to provide the desired information instantly

It was found that societal performance, Hospital Image, Treatment were the most significant PMs apart from Customer satisfaction, and Employee satisfaction. As there is no clear framework for excellence in healthcare, where stakeholders are an integral part of complete service, developed PMs and its connectivity to attributes may help to resolve the service level issues of Indian Hospital

    Shear Strength Behaviour of Clay Reinforced with Treated Coir Fibres

    The effect of treated coir fibres on the shear strength behaviour of clay is presented in this study. A series of consolidated undrained test were performed on soil reinforced with untreated, sodium hydroxide treated and carbon tetrachloride treated fibres. The coir fibre content was varied from 0.4% to 1.6%. The results indicated that the deviator stress at failure of the clay and clay with untreated coir fibres can be increased by treatment with carbon tetrachloride and sodium hydroxide. A significant increase was also observed in shear strength parameters of clay reinforced with coir fibres at different percentages. The two parameter dependent hyperbolic models were used for predicting the experimental results. The back predicted stressstrain curve at dierent fibre percentage was found to compare well with the experimental results. The clay reinforced with untreated/treated coir fibres has shown improved strength behaviour, it can be used for short term stability problems

    Background: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a global prevalent pathogen causes both acute and chronic hepatitis and leading to serious liver damage. Correct and rapid diagnosis is pivotal for the management of HCV disease. Rapid card tests are superior alternatives for the large-scale screening of HCV infection. Methods: The present observational study evaluates analytical performance of four different anti-HCV rapid tests. A total of 200 ELISA confirmed, HCV positive (n=100) and HCV negative (n=100) clinical specimens were selected and re-tested for anti-HCV antibodies by using commercially available four different immunochromatography cards (Meriscreen, Accurate, Oscar and Biolab). Results: Among all, Biolab rapid card test shown highest (98%) sensitivity. On the other hand, all rapid card test kits showed identical 100% specificity. Conclusions: Overall BioLab anti-HCV rapid card tests found to be superior in the present study and strongly suggest in house validation of rapid card tests before their diagnostics use on clinical specimens

    Clarithromycin: overview and its current clinical utility in the treatment of respiratory tract infections

    Upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) is a common reason for medical consultation all over the world. Streptococcus A (Strep A) and other infections can cause sore throat as well as pharyngitis or tonsillitis. It may also result in post-infection sequelae, including acute post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis, acute rheumatic fever, and rheumatic heart disease.  As a result, there is a need for an antibiotic that is effective, easy to administer, has a favorable sensitivity pattern, and preferably has some additional pharmacodynamic properties that complement the basic antibacterial profile. Clarithromycin is a macrolide antibacterial agent with broad-spectrum activity against respiratory pathogens. It is especially active against atypical Chlamydia pneumoniae, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, and Legionella spp. It is well absorbed and stable at gastric pH. It is metabolized by the cytochrome P450 enzymes and forms 14-hydroxy clarithromycin, which is more active than the parent compound, especially against Hemophilus influenzae. It acts by preventing protein synthesis by binding to the 50S subunit of bacterial ribosomes. In dosages of 500 to 1000 mg/day for 5 to 14 days, clarithromycin is effective in the treatment of community-acquired upper and lower respiratory tract infections in hospital and community settings. It exerts significant anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and post-antibiotic effects. It provides a viable option for the treatment of community-acquired respiratory tract infections, in both children and adults.
