BRST Invariance of the Non-Perturbative Vacuum in Bosonic Open String Field Theory

    Get PDF
Tachyon condensation on a bosonic D-brane was recently demonstrated numerically in Witten's open string field theory with level truncation approximation. This non-perturbative vacuum, which is obtained by solving the equation of motion, has to satisfy furthermore the requirement of BRST invariance. This is indispensable in order for the theory around the non-perturbative vacuum to be consistent. We carry out the numerical analysis of the BRST invariance of the solution and find that it holds to a good accuracy. We also mention the zero-norm property of the solution. The observations in this paper are expected to give clues to the analytic expression of the vacuum solution.Comment: 14 pages, no figures, LaTeX2e, v2: references added, minor changes, v3: typos correcte

Collective Form for Post-Developmental Inner-city Regeneration

    Get PDF
The strong and rapid urban growth of China in the past decades was largely realised through territorial expansion and essentially building cities from the ground up, a condition known as a ‘developmental city’. Many expanding Chinese cities are developmental in character with imported types in vast quantity that are becoming the new dominant types. As outward expansion began to decline in recent years, the focus of development is returning to the city centre, with the risk of large-scaleerasure of existing urban fabric along with its history and social life. This paper explores the possibilities for inner-city regeneration through evaluation of current architecture types in the urbanised Chinese city centre of Ningbo, and the potential to engage in the developmental future. Typology is utilised as a tool of investigation to reveal the evolution of the idea of the city over time.Theaimistopoint towards an urban vision of the common good with a new collective form, which can then respond to the inevitable developmental forces through a theoretical position for regeneration rooted in urban social life

Aperture-Coupled Beam-Scanning Patch Array With Parasitic Elements Using a Reconfigurable Series-Fed Phase-Shifting Structure

    Get PDF
In this letter, we propose a reconfigurable series-fed phase-shifting structure with movable metal plate for active millimeter wave beam-scanning application. The proposed phase-shifting structure can be equivalent to a certain number of phase shifters in the series-fed network. It can be easily controlled with only one metal plate, which further simplify the design of control system for phase shifters and reduce the cost. A prototype of 1-D aperture-coupled patch array with parasitic elements at 28GHz is designed, fabricated and measured for verifying the performance of the proposed phase-shifting structure. The measurement results at 28 GHz show 1-D beam-steering capability with maximum steering angle of ∼22 deg at H-plane can be achieved, revealing great potentials for developing the simple control and cost-effective active phased array for millimeter wave wireless power transmission application

Opistognathus ctenion (Perciformes, Opistognathidae): a new jawfish from southern Japan

    Get PDF
Opistognathus ctenion sp. nov. (Perciformes: Opistognathidae) is described on the basis of three specimens (17.3–30.6 mm in standard length) collected from the Osumi and Ryukyu islands, southern Japan in depths of 35–57 m. Although most similar to Opistognathus triops, recently described from Tonga and Vanuatu, the new species differs in mandibular pore arrangement, dorsal- and caudal-fin coloration, fewer gill rakers, and lacks blotches or stripes on the snout, suborbital region and both jaws

Multicenter phase II trial of preoperative chemoradiotherapy with S-1 for locally advanced oral squamous cell carcinoma

    Get PDF
PURPOSE: We evaluated whether preoperative chemotherapy with S-1 and concurrent radiotherapy is feasible and efficacious in the treatment of advanced oral squamous cell carcinoma. METHODS: Participants comprised 39 patients with oral carcinoma (stage III, n = 15; stage IVA, n = 24). All patients received a total radiation dose of 40 Gy, in once-daily 2-Gy fractions, and received S-1 at 65 mg/m(2)/day for 5 consecutive days, over 4 consecutive weeks with concurrent radiotherapy. RESULTS: Hematological toxicity was mild and reversible. The most common non-hematological toxicity was grade 3 mucositis, but this was transient and tolerable. Radical surgery was performed for 37 patients, with the remaining 2 patients declining the surgery. Postoperatively, local failure developed in 1 patient, and neck failure in 2 patients. Distant metastases were identified in 4 patients. At a median follow-up of 38.0 months (range 23–88 months), locoregional control, disease-specific survival, and overall survival rates at 3 years were 91.5, 83.8, and 83.8 %, respectively. CONCLUSION: Concurrent administration of S-1 and radiotherapy combined with surgery offers a well-tolerated method of successfully treating advanced oral squamous cell carcinoma. The locoregional control rate remains high even at 3 years of follow-up, and no serious adverse effects have been encountered

Type A thymoma : a rare cause of neoplastic cardiac tamponade with long-term survival

    Get PDF
Background: The prognosis of thymoma with cardiac tamponade is generally poor. Most of the reported thymomas with cardiac tamponade were type B or type AB (mixed thymoma), and cardiac tamponade due to type A thymoma, which has a better prognosis compared to type B thymoma, is extremely rare. Case presentation: We encountered a case of cardiac tamponade in a 71-year-old male. He visited our emergency department due to exacerbation of fatigue and dyspnea on exertion that lasted for two weeks. Chest imaging revealed a large amount of pericardial fluid and a contrast-enhanced tumor with calcification in the anterior mediastinum. The patient underwent thoracoscopic tumor biopsy and pathological examinations revealed type A thymoma. In this case, long-term disease-free survival (7.5 years) was achieved by multidisciplinary treatment (preoperative chemotherapy, surgical excision, and postoperative radiation therapy), in accordance with the histological type. Conclusions: This case indicates that neoplastic cardiac tamponade, even in elderly patients, should not necessarily be regarded as a terminal cancer and requires a systematic investigation for underlying causes

    PNLH related to Aspergillus infection

    Get PDF
Aspergillus nodules (AN) are an unusual form of chronic pulmonary aspergillosis. On the other hand, pulmonary nodular lymphoid hyperplasia (PNLH) is classified as a reactive pulmonary lymphoproliferative disorder. A 65-year-old male was referred to our hospital due to a nodule in the left upper lobe. Histologically, a mixture of prominent lymphoid follicular formation, and hyaline necrosis were observed. Grocott staining revealed morphological forms of Aspergillus spp. in the necrosis. The final clinical diagnosis was suspected AN histologically consistent with PNLH. This case suggests that there may be PNLH cases in which local infection with Aspergillus contributes to its pathophysiology

Introduction: Participating in meaningful activities that reflect one’s identity promotes the wellbeing of elderly people. This study aimed to prepare a questionnaire draft to evaluate occupational identity of the elderly and to examine the content and face validity of the questionnaire. Methods: First, we generated questionnaire items to evaluate the occupational identity of elderly people. Second, a content validity study was conducted with experts, using three rounds of the Delphi method. Lastly, the face validity study was undertaken by elderly participants, who reported on whether they could understand the questionnaire. Results: The 50 original questionnaire items were reduced to 21 items with the Delphi method. The items showed item-level content validity index (I-CVI) ranging between 91.7% and 100%, and scale-level CVI with the universal average method (S-CVI/Ave) of 97.4%, which fulfilled the consensus criteria. In the result of the face validity, although none of the items were checked as “Difficult to understand,” there were four items checked as “Difficult to answer.” Accordingly, only one item was corrected. Conclusion: Results suggest that this assessment possesses content and face validity in a sample of elderly people. The questionnaire is likely to allow occupational therapists to gain information about elderly peoples’ occupational identity.東京都立大学学位論文甲第1150号 副論
