    Prompt Resolution of Hypoglycemia by Hepatic Transarterial Embolization for Malignant Insulinoma with Multiple Liver Metastases

    A 45-year-old female who presented with loss of consciousness and a cold sweat was found to have a pancreatic tumor and multiple liver metastases. Laboratory studies showed marked hypoglycemia and inappropriately elevated serum insulin, C-peptide, and serum tumor markers. Fine needle aspiration revealed Grade 3 small-cell type primary pancreatic neuroendocrine carcinoma. Consequently, the diagnosis of malignant insulinoma was made. Transarterial embolization (TAE) for hepatic metastases resulted in the reduction of tumor volume and prompt resolution of hypoglycemic attacks, whereas diazoxide and systemic chemotherapy had been ineffective for controlling blood glucose levels, and octreotide was unavailable due to the allergic effect. This case report highlights the potential usefulness of TAE for malignant insulinomas in the management of hypoglycemia

    The purpose of this work is to reveal problems of children with physical disabilities when writing numerical expression and to propose a note-taking software as one of the alternative methods, which is for elementary and junior high school students. To accomplish this, first, interview about writing in arithmetic and mathematics was conducted to students and adults with physical disabilities, teachers of special needs education and staff of welfare facilities. Then, the prototype of the software was also demonstrated to them and received the feedback. Second, the measurement of speed in writing equations and fractions was performed by students with physical disabilities. The results showed the specifications that are required in note-taking software. It was found that the activity of writing calculation formulas by their hand affected excessive burden to persons with physical disabilities and was suggested that is not essential in learning. In future work, we will make the software and will consider case studies

    障害者の情報環境改善の一試案として 「障害者支援ソフトウェア導入 one CD linux」 の自動生成システム (Assistive Tools Using Linux On Demand System) を提案する.本研究では, まずネットワーク上にある障害者支援ソフトウェアを one CD linux 上に実装を行った. 実装には, 視覚障害者用音声読み上げエディター emacspeak を試用した. その上で, ソフトウェアの選択/実装/iso イメージ生成を半自動で行えるインストーラを製作し、 そのインストーラを含む one CD linux の試作を行った. 本システムの試作により, 障害者に必要とされる機能を取捨選択し個別の障害に対応できる OS 製作の可能性を検討した

    We report on the current status of our astronomical data sonification project. This project aims to sonify astronomical data, that is, to convert a visual medium into an audio medium for both scientists and the visually impaired. We hope that sonification can lead to a new way of conceptualizing scientific data. The primary sourcesof the data used for this project come from Japanese satellites dedicated to X-ray astronomy and geophysics. This project is performed in collaboration with Nihon Fukushi University and the Center for Planning and Information Systems (PLAIN center) of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) Institute of Space andAstronautical Science (ISAS). Our project began in March 2006. Since this time we have sonified astronomical data sets, including data from X-ray pulsars, and have published these results.     The ASTRO-H X-ray Observatory

    The joint JAXA/NASA ASTRO-H mission is the sixth in a series of highly successful X-ray missions initiated by the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS). ASTRO-H will investigate the physics of the high-energy universe via a suite of four instruments, covering a very wide energy range, from 0.3 keV to 600 keV. These instruments include a high-resolution, high-throughput spectrometer sensitive over 0.3-2 keV with high spectral resolution of Delta E < 7 eV, enabled by a micro-calorimeter array located in the focal plane of thin-foil X-ray optics; hard X-ray imaging spectrometers covering 5-80 keV, located in the focal plane of multilayer-coated, focusing hard X-ray mirrors; a wide-field imaging spectrometer sensitive over 0.4-12 keV, with an X-ray CCD camera in the focal plane of a soft X-ray telescope; and a non-focusing Compton-camera type soft gamma-ray detector, sensitive in the 40-600 keV band.     Hitomi X-Ray Studies of Giant Radio Pulses from the Crab Pulsar

    To search for giant X-ray pulses correlated with the giant radio pulses (GRPs) from the Crab pulsar, we performed a simultaneous observation of the Crab pulsar with the X-ray satellite Hitomi in the 2300 keV band and the Kashima NICT radio telescope in the 1.41.7 GHz band with a net exposure of about 2 ks on 2016 March 25, just before the loss of the Hitomi mission. The timing performance of the Hitomi instruments was confirmed to meet the timing requirement and about 1000 and 100 GRPs were simultaneously observed at the main pulse and inter-pulse phases, respectively, and we found no apparent correlation between the giant radio pulses and the X-ray emission in either the main pulse or inter-pulse phase. All variations are within the 2 fluctuations of the X-ray fluxes at the pulse peaks, and the 3 upper limits of variations of main pulse or inter-pulse GRPs are 22% or 80% of the peak flux in a 0.20 phase width, respectively, in the 2300 keV band. The values for main pulse or inter-pulse GRPs become 25% or 110%, respectively, when the phase width is restricted to the 0.03 phase. Among the upper limits from the Hitomi satellite, those in the 4.510 keV and 70300 keV bands are obtained for the first time, and those in other bands are consistent with previous reports. Numerically, the upper limits of the main pulse and inter-pulse GRPs in the 0.20 phase width are about (2.4 and 9.3) 10(exp 11) erg cm(exp 2), respectively. No significant variability in pulse profiles implies that the GRPs originated from a local place within the magnetosphere. Although the number of photon-emitting particles should temporarily increase to account for the brightening of the radio emission, the results do not statistically rule out variations correlated with the GRPs, because the possible X-ray enhancement may appear due to a >0.02% brightening of the pulse-peak flux under such conditions
