    Clockwork graviton contributions to muon g2g-2

    The clockwork mechanism for gravity introduces a tower of massive graviton modes, "clockwork gravitons," with a very compressed mass spectrum, whose interaction strengths are much stronger than that of massless gravitons. In this work, we compute the lowest order contributions of the clockwork gravitons to the anomalous magnetic moment, g2g-2, of muon in the context of extra dimensional model with a five dimensional Planck mass, M5M_5. We find that the total contributions are rather insensitive to the detailed model parameters, and determined mostly by the value of M5M_5. In order to account for the current muon g2g-2 anomaly, M5M_5 should be around 0.2 TeV0.2~{\rm TeV}, and the size of the extra dimension has to be quite large, l5107l_5 \gtrsim 10^{-7}\,m. For M51 TeVM_5\gtrsim1~{\rm TeV}, the clockwork graviton contributions are too small to explain the current muon g2g-2 anomaly. We also compare the clockwork graviton contributions with other extra dimension models such as Randall-Sundrum models or large extra dimension models. We find that the leading contributions in the small curvature limit are universal, but the cutoff-independent subleading contributions vary for different background geometries and the clockwork geometry gives the smallest subleading contributions.Comment: 14 pages, 4 figures: v3 minor corrections, to appear in PR

    Meta-stable Supersymmetry Breaking in an N=1 Perturbed Seiberg-Witten Theory

    In this contribution, we discuss the possibility of meta-stable supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking vacua in a perturbed Seiberg-Witten theory with Fayet-Iliopoulos (FI) term.     Cepstral Analysis of Voice in Patients With Thyroidectomy

    Objectives The vocal changes after a thyroidectomy are temporary and nonsevere, therefore, obtaining accurate analytical results on the pathological vocal characteristics following such a procedure is difficult. For a more objective acoustic analysis, this study used the cepstral analysis method to examine changes in the patients’ voices during the perioperative period regarding sustained vowel phonation. Methods The sustained phonation of the five vowels (i.e., /a/, /e/, /i/, /o/, and /u/) by 35 patients with thyroidectomy were recorded by using a Multi-Speech program. Of the 35 patients, 10 were men and 25 were women, with an average age of 51.5 years. Voice data were collected a total of 3 times (preoperatively, 5–7 days after the operation, and 6 weeks after the operation) and were edited according to each fragment (on-set, mid, and off-set) for cepstral analysis. Results The cepstral analysis on the patients’ voices revealed no significant differences between the examination periods of all vowel phonations. However, analysis of the on-set fragment of the vowel /i/ revealed pathological characteristics in which the cepstral measurements of the voice were significantly lower after the operation than before the operation, with the cepstral measurements of the voice increasing further 6 weeks following surgery. Conclusion The results of the acoustic analysis on the on-set fragment of the vowel /i/ will be important data for characterizing the vocal changes during the perioperative period. This study contributes to future research on the mechanisms underlying changes in the voice of patients with a history of thyroid or neck surgery

    Cooling of young neutron stars and dark gauge bosons

    The standard cooling scenario in the presence of nucleon superfluidity fits rather well to the observation of the neutron stars. It implies that the stellar cooling arguments could place a stringent constraint on the properties of novel particles. We study in particular the cooling rate induced by dark gauge bosons for very young neutron stars: remnants of Cassiopeia A and SN1987A. The cooling is dominantly contributed either by the nucleon pair breaking and formation in the core or by the electron bremsstrahlung in the crust, depending on the age of the stars and the form of the couplings. We compute how much the cooling curve of the young neutron stars could be modified by the extra dark gauge boson emission and obtain the bound for the dark gauge boson when its mass is lower than O(0.1)MeV\mathcal{O}(0.1)\,{\rm MeV}; for the dark photon we find the mixing parameter times its mass εm<1.5×108MeV\varepsilon m_{��^\prime} < 1.5 \times 10^{-8}\,{\rm MeV} and for the U(1)BL{\rm U}(1)_{B-L} gauge boson its coupling to nucleons and electrons e<1013e^\prime < 10^{-13}. We also discuss the possibility that the rapid cooling of Cas A might provide a hint for the existence of the U(1)BL{\rm U}(1)_{B-L} gauge boson

    A HISTORICAL APPROACH TO SYPHILIS INFECTION IN KOREA

    From the end of the 15th century, syphilis spread worldwide, posing a serious threat to public health. Venereal syphilis has been a major research topic, not only in clinical medicine but also in paleopathology, especially because it is a disease of questionable origin and of high prevalence until the discovery of antibiotics. Syphilis in history has been studied extensively in Europe and the Americas, though less so in Asia. In this review, based on extant historical documents and available paleopathological data, we pinpoint the introduction and trace the spread of venereal syphilis in Korea to the end of the 19th century. This review provides fundamental information that will be of great help to future research on pre-20th century syphilis in Korea

We propose the creativity creation model that takes account of these constraints and suggest that, to cultivate an innovative climateleaders should receive feedback from innovation performance. To improve creativity and achieve successful innovation, leaders should be involved in every procedure of the model. The investigation centers on the integration of WSIA within the additive manufacturing framework, specifically material extrusion-fused deposition modeling (FDM). The study focuses on composite materials blending WSIA with commercial thermoplastics like ABS and PC, meticulously analyzing their physical, chemical, and mechanical attributes. Notably, the research highlights the potential for heightened mechanical strength in ABS composite materials, suggesting applications beyond 3D printing.     The Phonetic Characteristics in Patients of Bilateral Vocal Fold Paralysis Without Tracheotomy

    Objectives Patients with bilateral vocal fold paralysis (BVFP) theoretically have difficulty producing voiceless consonants. However, perceptual studies have revealed clear production of voiceless consonants with good articulation scores in nontracheostomized patients. The purpose of this study was to clarify the production of voiceless stops during articulation in patients with BVFP compared to normal speakers. Methods The perceptual, acoustic, and aerodynamic characteristics of patients with BVFP and those with normal speech were investigated with special reference to voiceless stop consonants. Test words were prepared to place the stop consonants in different phonological environments, and were all nonsense words. Results The patients with BVFP perceptually produced the three types of stops successfully. However, they acoustically varied voice onset time to produce phonetically representative stops but decreased voice onset time of /ph/ and /p/ compared to those of normal speakers. These patients may properly control air pressure to produce the three types of stop consonants similar to normal speakers. Conclusion The patients with BVFP realized the distinctions between the three types of stops similar to the normal speakers. Although vocal mobility was absent in the patients with BVFP, voice onset time, vowel duration, closure duration, and air pressure were similar to those of normal speakers
